How Sting Stole Christmas song of the day: "Bethlehem Down" by Sting. This song was weird. Im usually into strange music, but um it was just too much. Christmas songs shouldnt sound like this. Epic fail.

Whacking Off Award: "Longview" by Green Day. I mean, has a song ever captured the glory of self-lovin like this one? Ahhh i love bass line in the verses, it plays out the impatience of idleness. Good job boys! now stop writing songs about war and politics and go back to this kind of stuff. I hate when bands evolve :(

Story time. When i was in Asheville i worked for a month at The Bistro on Biltmore Estate. I thought i would love it, but my first week was hell. I had a lot going on, and then got thrown into this ridiculously stressful AM grill position. Every morning for the first 2 weeks i would sneak down to the bathroom about 5 minutes before service started and would play this song to myself on my ipod. I would close my eyes and shut out everything except the sounds in my headphones. It was almost a way of praying, asking that i could make it through the day. Thats what i usually remember when i hear "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" by Mama Cass Elliot. I remember the feeling of almost-too-cold water soothing worry and heartache. Its a testament to the power of music.

Remember that time we listened to Tommy by The Who the whole way through and tried to see our futures? song of the day: "The Acid Queen" by The Who. This is one of my favorite albums for sure, and The Acid Queen is a big reason why. Its a great track. I was actually resolved to name a kid Tommy after this album, but idk about it anymore. It was kind of during my hippie thing. 10 points if you can tell me what movie the song of the day title is from.... its an easy one. And yes, i have listened to the whole album with a candle lit to see my future. It totally worked.

Gold Star: "Whiskey Lullaby" by Brad Paisley Feat. Alison Krauss. There were a lot of great songs today, but i couldnt find one i thought deserved the gold more than this one. The story is tragic, which i always love, and they sound great together. I love the country folk style harmony and slide guitar. Im a sucker for southern music. Even if you arent a country fan (schen-lah and mallo, im talking to you here) you should hear the introduction. Just listen to the first 12 seconds (its before Brad starts singing so you dont have to put up with any twangy shit that i know you hate) and feel the emotion in each pluck of a string. It resonates to the soul if you let it. Try and let it, i think this kind of thing is important now and then.

She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette

Morning Drive Perfection Award: :What You Thought You Need" by Jack Johnson. I used to play this song as i was leaving my house everyday this September. It was my September song (Oct was "Maps" by the Yeah yeah yeahs, Nov was "Darken Me" by The electric Owls, and Dec was "The Air Near My Fingers" by the White Stripes... in case you were curious) and is a perfect way to start a long day. You should take a listen and see what i mean. Plus, the lyrics are adorable.

Hidden Gem: "She Wants to Move" by N.E.R.D.. Dudes. DUDES! this song is badass! im so glad i was paying attention today and didnt miss it, though i doubt i would have. At first it sounds like pitbull with the bongo beat, but then adds some acoustic guitar and later electric in the chorus. It is all over the place and super sexy. It makes me wanna dance! It is a blend of hip hop, rock, and latin rap. KIND OF AMAZING. Hear it here.

"More Than A Woman" by The Bee Gees is the BEST VACCUMING SONG EVER! try it if you dont beleive me, it makes cleaning a total blast.

Feel good summer jam: "Daylight" by Matt & Kim. This song is so much FUN! I found it over the summer and it went into my regular rotation. It played a lot on XM stations, i was hooked pretty easily. You will be too.

Slow Dancing In A Burning Room - John Mayer. If you havent heard this song yet you should seriously change that. And if you are a fan of beautiful imagery in music than download it asap. Here's what im talking about:

It's not a silly little moment,
It's not the storm before the calm.
This is the deep and dying breath of
This love that we've been working on.

Can't seem to hold you like I want to
So I can feel you in my arms.
Nobody's gonna come and save you,
We pulled too many false alarms.

We're going down,
And you can see it too.
We're going down,
And you know that we're doomed.
My dear,
We're slow dancing in a burning room.

Dont even get me started on the implications of the musical elements... mmmm this song is SO GREAT. Wow, i am blown away every time.

More to come tomorrow.
