Disco Jam of the day: "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston.

Three pink floyd songs in one day... im feeling kinda tripped out.

I miss missmarciemassacre song of the day: "Guess God Thinks I'm Abel" by Oasis. This was our song :( i miss you girl.

I could be your lover,
You could be all mine.
We go on for ever,
'Till the end of time.
You could be my best friend
Stay up all night long
You could be my railroad
We go on and on.

Let's get along
Theres nothing here to do
Let's go find a Rainbow
I could be wrong
But what am i to do
I guess god thinks i'm Abel.

Overplayed on the radio song of the day: "I Dare You" by Shinedown. You know, i still really like this song even though it was overdone.

Life's hard when you are half african-american, half limestone award: "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" by The Temptations. Get it? He is half limestone... cuz his papa was a rolling stone.... haha? no? just me? k.

Gold Star: "Days Go By" by Dirty Vegas. This is a dance song from the 2001 with some seriously powerful lyrics. Download it if you cant remember it. And try out this acoustic version, which is nice but i miss the bass beat of the original. I can play this on repeat for a long time and not even notice.

You are still a whisper on my lips
A feeling at my fingertips
That's pulling at my skin

You leave me when I'm at my worst
Feeling as if I've been cursed
Bitter cold within

Days go by and still I think of you
Days when I couldn't live my life without you
Days go by and still I think of you
Days when I couldn't live my life without you
Without you
Without you

More to come tomorrow.

Old school throwback song of the day (here's a little old school for ya- it goes a little somethin like this) (that was for you Schen): "Fill Me In" by Craig David. I love this song. It seemed so clever to me as a kid.... sigh. Oh youth haha.

Genius song lyrics of the day: "Ishq Grindin' (RDB mix)" by Lehmber Hussainpuri. The first line?

"Whats the size of them rims on that car n**ger ahhhh? It dont get more ghetto than this"

genius.

Gold Star: "Can I Have This Dance?" by High School Musical 3. Okay, okay, this may be a shock because i am so COOL, but i am a huge HSM fan. I saw the third movie in theatres and sort of maybe cried to this song. Just a little. After that i was hooked. See adorable slash ridiculously unrealistic scene below:

FUCK YOU VANESSA

So good RIGHT??!?! right!? total gold star.

Thanks Bailee award: "Paper Planes"by M.I.A. She introduced me to this song on a car ride to state AGES ago. I was cracking up at her little baby Bailee hands making guns and ka-ching signs. Then a few months later i heard it on the radio and knew all the words. I seemed cool. It is one of the few times i liked a new song or artist BEFORE they went viral. Thanks Bails for helping keep my rep up yo!

Almost Gold Star: "The Kill (live)" by 30 Seconds to Mars. It may have won gold star, but its just sooooo emo. Especially since its the live acoustic version. listen here. (HOW HOT IS JARED LETO????? omg. He gets my heart's gold star of today... mmmm)

seriously. attractive.

Summer jam '09 song of the day: "Ghost Town" by Shiny Toy Guns. This was the first song i heard on my kick ass car stereo... It sounded like it would blow out the speakers. If you like anything loud and awesome download this track.

More to come tomorrow.

Girl In the Affair - Jill Sobule
Gotta Serve Somebody - Bob Dylan

Thanks for the advice award: "Waterfalls" by TLC. Waterfalls. Dont go chasing them.

My theme song of the day: "Good Girls Go Bad" by Cobra Starship feat. Leighton Meester. Leighton Meester plays Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl (for those of you who arent 14 year old high school students like me). AKA she is my dream crush of the month. Ahhh Blair. This song has lyrics that i can finally identify with you know?

I Know Your Type
Your Daddy’s Little Girl
Just Take A Bite (One Bite)
Let Me Shake Up Your World
Cause Just One Night,
Couldn’t Be So Wrong
I’m Gonna Make You Lose Control

She Was So Shy
Till I Drove Her Wild
I Make Them Good Girls Go Bad
I Make Them Good Girls Go Bad
You were hanging In the corner with your five best friends
You heard that i was trouble but you couldn't resist
I Make Them Good Girls Go Bad

Moral of the story? See my MTV special "True Life: Im a playa." Word.

Welcome To Good Burger Award: "We're All Dudes" by Less Than Jake featuring Kel Mitchell. DUDES! its the Im a Dude song! From Good Burger! The spin-off of the fantastic All That skit! WOO HOO!! Fun fact - i once sat in our dumbwaiter-turned-small-closet in the dark for over an hour listening to this song on repeat. Singing along, Smooshed against dresses and coats. For an hour. And this was seen as normal Erica behavior (still is lol).

Gold Star: "When the Stars Go Blue" by Tim McGraw. I once read that the stars going blue is a metaphor for when the world will end. This is one of my favorite love songs because of that.

Ughhh we get it already award: "Gotta Serve Somebody" by Bob Dylan. This one is a little repetitive. He is very insistant that you are going to have to serve somebody. He says it 21 times in 5 minutes. Excessive much?

More to come tomorrow.

Drive You Mild - The Verve Pipe
Jack Slap Cheer - The Matches

Prop 8 song of the day: "California On My Mind" by Wild Light. The beginning of this song sums up my PP8D (post-Prop 8 depression) pretty well:

Give me a lake that I can dive into
Bury my head in the shit at the bottom
Fuck today
Fuck San Francisco
Fuck California

This was a regular on the rotation of music at 1921 Restaurant. (I made the kitchen mix CDs). Mandi and i loved this one, usually on the days that werent going so well. I also want someone to make a montage of horrible "The O.C."a clips to this song. Lemme know when its finished and ill post it on here yeah? Cool.

Best ringtone ever award: "Answer The Phone" by Sugar Ray.

Faithfully - Journey
Never Again - Justin Timberlake
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Hands - The Raconteurs
It Won't Be Long - The Beatles
Evident Utensil - Chairlift

My theme song of the day: "Crazy Bitch" by Buckcherry. I love this song and all of its side-of-the-road glory. Its trashy. AKA sexy. And i love it.

Not too bad award: "No Souvenirs" by Melissa Etheridge. Another surprising win from Ms. Etheridge. How about some of these lines?

But if you want me you can call me
In the night you know where I'll be
Broken lover you can touch me
In the dark the innocent can't see
You lock it up now hide the key
It would mean surrender to let me see
Oh brave, brave soldier keep it under cover
You fell alone like no other lover
Burn the pictures break the records
Run far away to a northern town
Sell your fear and leave me standing here
With no souvenirs

I kinda dig it - nice job kid.

Office Supplies song of the day: "Evident Utensil" by Chairlift. Its none other than a pencil. But when i see the name all i can think is... are you a fork, knife, or spoon?

3 points if you can guess what i am

Gold Star: "Please Forgive Me" by David Gray. I used to listen to this song every night when i laid down to sleep. Even now when the first verse starts i can feel tears grow. The lyrics are so gut-wrenching, so easily sympathized with. Every word is one i long to say to someone somewhere. Read them here, and i recommend downloading this one. It may come in handy someday.

Cream my jeans award: "That's The Way Love Goes" by 'N Sync. Um... this is a sexy ass song and video. They covered Janet Jackson's hit for a tribute back in 2001. Ive had the track since then and never get tired of it. Make sure to watch Justin's face during "Oh sugar don't you hurry." AAAAAND cream. Sigh. Me mucho gusto, Senor Timberlake. Mucho. (shhh i didnt pay attention is high school spanish so i know that is probably horribly wrong. Just go with it).

Goodbye Asheville Anthem: "Orion Town 2" by Frontier Ruckus. First line? "Im going home im smoking my last cigarette." This was the first track on a Goodbye North Carolina mix i made for the long haul home. I put in the disc and had this blasting right as we pulled out of Parkway Crossing. R.I.P. Asheville memories.

Listen to this at least once before you die song of the day: "Riot, Please" by Snow Patrol. I love the polite song title. Its fun to use good manners beside a verb like "riot". Listen here.

"Never go back down, well its anybody's guess"

Yay for ceramics song of the day: "Porcelain" by Moby. Great song. The video is definitely something to watch while tripping on acid. Like seriously, what the fuck moby? see below:

Its like a dry eyes commercial gone horribly horribly wrong

Surprisingly Emotive Justin Timberlake song of the day: "Never Again" by Justin Timberlake. Once you get past the bad stock room melody and overdone falsetto, its kind of an okay song. Kind of being the key word.

More to come tomorrow.

88 - Sum 41
[Untitled] - Finch

Wonder Years Award: "With A Little Help From My Friends" by Joe Cocker

Great country song of the day: "Summertime" by Kenny Chesney. Did you know its a smile, a kiss, and a sip of wine? True story.

Amazing lyrics of the day: "Visions Of Johanna" by Bob Dylan
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/bobdylan/visionsofjohanna.html

Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while
But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues
You can tell by the way she smile
s

Bad song to have as the on-hold music of a plastic surgeon's office: "Scar That Never Heals" by Jeremy Fisher. This song is great!! i put it on peoples mixes a lot because i love the opening few chords. It makes a great first song. Plus it has some seriously dark sentimentality mingled in with all the doo-wap soft rock harmonies.

I done too much damage
Got nothing left to feel
My self is broke and bandaged
Her love is a scar that never heals

Why you wanna save me?
Lord my soul is shaken
Why you wanna save me?
Lord my soul is taken

Gold Star: "I'm Bound to Pack it Up" by The White Stripes. This is my favorite White Stripes song. I always have been a sucker for strings sections and acoustic guitars. I think i used to identify with this song in the past moreso than i do now. But the sentiment is a hard one, because it can feel so true. Enjoy.

"it's hard to think of just what to say"

Hidden Gem: "A Tell-Tale Penis" by Joan Of Arc

Slushie Award: "Push It" by Glee.

Gold Star: "Eye to Eye" by Goofy Movie. Remember this one? they sing it at the end with the famous singer guy This song is actually amazing

Got myself a notion.
One I know that you'll understand
Set the world in motion
By reaching out for each other's hands

Maybe we'll discover
What we should've known all along(Yeah)
One way or another
Together's where we both belong.

If we listen to each other's hearts.
We'll find we're never too far apart.
And maybe love is the reason why,
for the 1st time ever we're seeing it eye to eye.

fantastic yeah?

Super badass award: "Danger ! High Voltage" by Electric Six. So i heard this on the Charlie's Angels 2 soundtrack and fell in love. Jack White plays on this track, so mega bonus. Its about a desire so strong it starts fires with its shockwaves. Sexy.

"Danger Danger, High Voltage
When we touch, when we kiss, when we touch"

Turn it up and cry while driving in the rain song of the day: "Timothy" by JET. Its depressing. But so good.

Epic Fail: "My Baby" by Britney Spears. Its so bad, dont even attempt to listen to it. Youll hate it.

Throwback award: "Ride Wit Me" by Nelly. Where they at? Nelly is MY BOY. See below:

In the club on the late night, feelin right
Lookin tryin to spot somethin real nice
Lookin for a little shorty hot and horny so that I can take home
(I can take home)
She can be 18 (18) wit an attitude
or 19 kinda snotty actin real rude
Boo, as long as you a thicky thicky thick girl you know that it's on
(Know that it's on)
I peep something comin towards me up the dance floor
Sexy and real slow (hey)
Sayin she was peepin and I dig the last video
So when Nelly, can we go; how could I tell her no?
Her measurements were 36-25-34
Yellin I like the way you brush your hair
And I like those stylish clothes you wear
I like the way the light hit the ice and glare
And I can see you moving way over there

yeah. ya heard? uh. word.

Best song to listen to while breaking a diet song of the day: "Sugar Never Tasted So Good" by The White Stripes.

Gold Star: "Because" by The Beatles. This wins the gold star because it is the a capella version from The Beatles Anthology disc 3. At the end of my funeral service, right before they take my coffin out of the church, i want this song to be blasted in its entirety. I just want everyone to sit still and quiet and take in this track. Right that down and totally make it happen for me, yeah? Alright cool. thanks. There is a great inside story to my love of this song too.... ask me about it in person and ill tell it lol

Almost Gold Star: "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by The Beatles. It was a Beatles kind of day.

Triangle Walks - Fever Ray
The Long Grift - They Might Be Giants
*Torn - Natalie Imbruglia
Stolen - Dashboard Confessional
Oprah's Favorite Things - Kathy Griffin

Ballad of the day: "That's Where It Is" by Carrie Underwood. I hate that i love this.

In a midnight talk, in a morning kiss,
When I'm in your arms, that's where it is,
When we're tangled up and can't resist,
When we feel that rush, that's where it is,
That's where it is

Rooted in history song of the day: "Shankill Butchers" by The Decemberists. Its a neat story.... about a murderous gang in Ireland. Sweet right? Its told as though its a bedtime lullaby warning children to
mind their mother's words
. I wiki-ed the song title and check it out:

The Shankill Butchers is the name given to a loyalist gang, many of whom were members of the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF). The gang conducted paramilitary activities in Belfast, Northern Ireland during the 1970s. It was most notorious for its late-night abduction, torture and murder (by throat slashing) of random Catholic civilians. The Shankill Butchers killed at least 30 people (including a significant number of Protestants) in sectarian attacks, paramilitary feuds, personal grudges and bombing raids. Despite extensive police resources being channelled towards the capture of those responsible, a wall of silence, created by a mixture of fear and respect in the Shankill community, provided few leads that could be followed.

There you go. History lesson of the day, with musical accompaniment to boot. I know, im pretty cool.

Best combo of the day: "The Clicker (For The Maggie Fans)" by Kathy Griffin and "Oprah's Favorite Things" by Kathy Griffin. She effing cracks me up. Hahaha Ugg boots in Macon, Georgia. Oprah is fucking crazy.

Hidden Gem: "Smoke and Mirrors" by The Audition. I just found this one and already love it. Im gonna blast it in my car all day long. check it out.

Coolest video of the day: "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia. I cant decide what i love more - the lyrics, the clothes, or natalie. mmmm. please enjoy this flashback moment with me:

Wheres the part where she lies naked on the floor dammit?!

Gold Star: "A Praise Chorus" by Jimmy Eat World. This song pretty much gets the gold for sampling from "Crimson and Clover." I know Joan Jett didnt do the original but her version is my favorite. I posted the whole thing below because its THAT good.

Are you going to live your life wondering
Standing in the back, looking around
Are you going to waste your time thinking
How you've grown up or how you missed out
Things are never going be the way you want
Where's it going to get you acting serious
Things are never going to be quite what you want
Even at twenty-five you got to start sometime

I'm on my feet
I'm on the floor
I'm good to go
And all I need is just to hear a song I know
I wanna always feel like part of this was mine
I wanna fall in love tonight

Are you going to live your life
Standing in the back, looking around
Are you going to waste your time
Oughta make a move or you'll miss out

Someone's going to ask you what it's all about
Stick around, nostalgia won't let you down
Someone's going to ask you what it's all about
What are you going to have to say for yourself

I'm on my feet
I'm on the floor
I'm good to go
And all I need is just to hear a song I know
I wanna always feel like part of this was mine
I wanna fall in love tonight

Crimson and clover
Over and over
Crimson and clover
Over and over

Our house in the middle of the street
Why did we ever meet
Started my rock 'n' roll fantasy
Don't don't, don't let's start
Why did we ever part
Kick start my rock 'n' rollin' heart

I'm on my feet
I'm on the floor
I'm good to go
So come on Davey, sing me something that I know
I want to always feel like part of this was mine
I want to fall in love tonight
You don't know
I wanna fall in love tonight
You don't know
I wanna always feel like part of this was mine
I wanna fall in love tonight
I wanna fall in love tonight
I wanna fall in love tonight

Pass me that dictionary over there song of the day:: "When The War Came" by The Decemberists. I like the song a lot and think there are some great metaphors but.... uh...

We mae made our oath to Vavilov
We'd not betray the solanum
The acres of asteraceae
To our own pangs of starvation

Really? We get it, you know big words. Thanks Decemberists.

Hidden Gem: "Camilo" by State Radio

Moulin Rougue wannabe video awrad: "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers. I mean, come on:

Right? right.

Wow... long song award: "American Pie" by Don McLean. I saw him do this song!!! For real! He came to the State Theatre during arts fest '07. Totally went by myself since i was already over there with my rents and they wanted to see a movie. (WOW, im cool). He did this as his encore and you could tell he HATED it haha. He was actually kind of an asshole. Im not surprised. I found a website explaining this song line by line, and while im tempted to link it, im not going to. Because it ruined the song for me. The mystery is gone. Santa Claus is dead. Its for your own good.

Pour my heart out lyrically song of the day: "Here Is Gone" by Goo Goo Dolls.

And I want to get free
Talk to me
I can fear you falling
And I won't tempt to be
All you need
Somehow here is gone

Gold Star: "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver. You need to download this song. Its tragic (in a good way). Hands down gold star, which is saying something considering all the five stars i had. Good job Bon Iver slash good job mallo.

Hidden Gem: "Carolina" by Matt Wertz. Its super cute.

Cover of the day: "Time After Time" by Quietdrive. LOVE IT!

OMG lets dance! award: "Hung Up" by Madonna. OOOOKAAY. So i went to Mamma Mia at the Eishenhower and have had "Gimme Gimme Gimme" stuck in my head since. Its a great disco song by Abba. Well i realized that Madonna sampled it for "Hung Up." It is weird that this comes up on my playlist 2 days later right? right.

Gold Star: "Dancing In The Dark" by Bruce Springsteen. These lyrics are some of the best ive ever had the privledge to sing along to. It expresses such a relatable sentiment. Its worth reading them without the blaring cheesy 80's synth in the background. I think the meaning is sometimes lost in the music. Check them out:

I get up in the evening
and I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
Man I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help

You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

Message keeps getting clearer
radio's on and I'm moving 'round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face
Man I ain't getting nowhere
I'm just living in a dump like this
There's something happening somewhere
baby I just know that there is

You can't start a fire
you can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

You sit around getting older
there's a joke here somewhere and it's on me
I'll shake this world off my shoulders
come on baby this laugh's on me

Stay on the streets of this town
and they'll be carving you up alright
They say you gotta stay hungry
hey baby I'm just about starving tonight
I'm dying for some action
I'm sick of sitting 'round here trying to write this book
I need a love reaction
come on now baby gimme just one look

You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying over a broken heart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Hey baby

Best 90's Dance Pop Hit Ever of the day: "Another Night" by Real McCoy. Im having a TON of 90's song come up today and i like it. This is one you might not remember by name, but in the first 4 piano notes you will remember it. fantastic.

Loved it even before Glee award: "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by The Rolling Stones. I used to find comfort in this song during my classic rock music phase. Then Glee did a great job with it and renewed my love for the original. Plus im a sucker for rock songs backed by choirs.

Sampled song of the day #2: "More, More, More (Part I)" by Andrea True Connection. Len definitely used this in thier 90's hit "Cant Steal My Sunshine." Great disco classic.

Suicidal award: "Death to Los Campesinos!" by Los Campesinos!

Ukelale!!!!! Award: "Somewhere Over The Rainbow & What a Wonderful World" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. "Ooooooo ooooooo oooooo, oooo oooo, ooo oo ooooooo, oooo oo ooooooo."

Cute Country song of the day: "Little Moments" by Brad Paisley. I know its sweet how Brad handles his train wreck woman, but if bitch burnt a cake on the same day she fucked up my car it would not be okay with me. You know me and my anger issues though... Me and Chris Brown like our women obedient.

Gold star: "My Own Worst Enemy" by Lit. This is the one that starts with the fire alarm guitar riff. Dont remember it? Refresh your memory here. And the crowd goes "ooooooh, THAT song!" haha it was a main jam at the restaurant for a while, me and Cody would blast it. Because it is basically the story of our lives:

Can we forget about the things I said
When I was drunk
I didn't mean to call you that
I can't remember what was said or what you threw at me
Please tell me, please tell me Why
My car is in the front yard,
And I'm Sleeping with my clothes on
Came in through the window last night
And your gone
Gone

LIFE. STORY.

Best song title of the day song of the day: "Ann Coulter's Snatch" by Hamell on Trial. Hahahaha. Snatch.

Gold Star: "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" by Bill Withers. I love this song, but i think i prefer Kris Allen's version (gasp!). No matter which one i hear though it pulls at me. There is such a deep remorse and sense of hopelessness in his voice... its haunting and beautiful. I feel like this would be fun to pair up against "Total Eclipse of the Heart" haha. Get it? Cuz the sunshine is gone? no? not funny? k. moving on....

Old School Bus jam of the day slash Brave New Word award: "Soma" by The Strokes. I used to jame to The Strokes' self titled debut on my morning bus rides to high school. This was a fav. Then we read Brave New World in AP English and the drug they all take is Soma. I basically had this song stuck in my head for the entire 3 weeks we covered the novel, It was awesome lol.

Thanks mallo! award: "Hair " by The Early November. SUCH a good song! This should be everyone's hidden gem today. Listen here, download here, and lemme know what you think!

Brand New Colony - The Postal Service
Come Here Girls - Dr Zeus
Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell

Hidden Gem: "Royal Station 4/16" by Melissa Etheridge. Ummm melissa, did you pay attention in elementary school? You can reduce 4/16 to 1/4. Im just saying. Anyway, this song was actually really cool (haha i sound so surprised, but i mean its etheridge you know? sometimes she can be a little much).

Wonder Years award: "Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell. I think i remember hearing this song on the Wonder Years (best time period coming of age tv show EVER) and loving it. Oh wait... i think that was "Circle Game" by Joni Mitchell. OOoooh yeah. it totally was. Eh, in any case i think this song is great. I love the lyrics, you should check them out.

Lets bone award: "Whats Your Fantasy?" by Ludacris. All i have is eleven words for you:

Back seat, windows up, that's the way you like to fuck.

Am i right? i fucking love luda.

Wow, lemme go jump off a bridge now song of the day: "Set The Fire To The Third Bar" by Snow Patrol. Its beautiful and one of my favorites but seriously... depressing much? Heres my favorite part:

After I have travelled so far
We'd set the fire to the third bar
We'd share each other like an island
Until exhausted, close our eyelids
And dreaming, pick up from
The last place we left off
Your soft skin is weeping
A joy you can't keep in

Almost Gold Star: "Brass In Pocket" by The Pretenders. This song is AMAZING! I listened to it a lot over last summer. It is a great tune to drive to on a sunny day when you arent in a hurry to be anywhere.

Gotta use my sidestep :)

Gold Star: "Lovers Tonight" by Dave Matthews Band. This one is personal... i listened to it theraputically and often a few years ago. It poetically expressed what i could not at the time. Sigh. Gold Star.

To the best
Of all we can offer, Just a rogue kiss
Tangled tongues and lips
See me this way
I'm turning and turning for you
Girl, just tonight
Float away here with me
An evening just wait and see
But tomorrow go back to your man
I'm back to my world
And we're back to being friends

HELL YEAH remix of the day: "Dance, Dance (Lindbergh Palace Remix)" by Fall Out Boy. This is pretty much amazing. I asked myself if "Dance Dance" could get any better. I just got the answer after listening to this song. Soooo great!

Stalker! award: "No Reply" by The Beatles. I didnt know they could be such creepers:

I've tried to telephone,
They said you were not home,
That's a lie.
'Cause I know where you've been
And I saw you walk in your door.
I nearly died, I nearly died,
'Cause you walked hand in hand
With another man in my place.

I like your style Lennon. Nice.

Hidden Gem: "Don't Give Up" by The Whitest Boy Alive. Its a cool techno-ish track, kind of slow. Check it out.

Gold Star: "I've Just Seen a Face" by Jim Sturgess. So i didnt really know about this song until i saw the movie "Across the Universe." I sort of hate that im a Beatles fan and it took a movie for me to discover it, but meh. Im okay with it. I actually like this version better than the original (gasp). Plus the trippy glow bowling kind of blew my mind the first time i saw it.

Captain Planet would be proud song of the day: "The 3 R's" by Jack Johnson: So guess what the three R's are? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. How fun! haha the song got annoying but it was nice in theory:

Well, if you're going to the market to buy some juice
You've got to bring your own bags and you learn to reduce your waste
And if your brother or your sister's got some cool clothes
You could try them on before you buy some more of those
Reuse, we've got to learn to reuse
And if the first two R's don't work out
And if you've got to make some trash
Don't throw it out
Recycle, we've got to learn to recycle,
We've got to learn to
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Throwback to the 90's award: "Always Be My Baby" by Mariah Carey. This honestly almost got the gold star for the day. I blasted it around campus with my windows down and shades on. THATS how cool i am hahaha. Is there a way to ever get sick of this song? I havent found one yet. Enjoy.

More to come tomorrow.

Hidden Gem:" Sassafras Roots" by Green Day

Stupid... just stupid award: "Loretta Lynn's Lincoln" by Josh Turner. Its seriously very stupid.

Harvest Moon award: "Simple Kind of Life" by No Doubt. So did anyone else play harvest moon for N64? Anyone? I see schen's hand... no one else? Cool. Well there is this girl in the game with really pink hair. She is hella annoying. Her name is Popuri. Her eyes were pink too.

Day 103

Throwback to 11th grade song #1: "Out Of My Heart (Into Your Head)" by BBMak

Throwback to 11th grade song #2: "The Adventure" by Angels And Airwaves. They could sing the phonebook to this music and it would still be an amazing song.

I felt this thing,
I can't replace.

Hilarious 90's song of the day: "Peaches" by The Presidents Of The United States Of America

Gold Star (and throwback to 11th grade song #3): "Breathe (2 AM)" by Anna Nalick. Amazing amazing amazing.

Hidden Gem: "Between The Furrow And The Roses" by Namoli Brenne

Sit and cry my eyes out soundtrack song of the day and throwback to 11th grade song #4: "Konstantine" by Something Corporate. Have you guys heard this song? Its basically 9 minutes of this guy playing piano and sounding like he might cry. For 9 minuts. Its literally 9 minutes and 36 seconds long. And i love EVERY SECOND OF IT! It taps into that self indulgent sappy overdramatic part of me... sigh. Pass the Haagen-Dazs and put on Dawson's Creek.

This is to a girl who got into my head
With all these pretty things she did
Hey Baby, You know that you keep me up in bed
It's to a girl who got into my head
With all the fucked up things I did
Hey maybe baby, you could keep me up in bed
My Konstantine

Spin around me like a dream
We played out on this movie screen
And I said,
Did you know I miss you
Did you know I miss you
Did you know I miss you
Did you know I miss you
Did you know I miss you
Did you know I miss you
Did you know I miss you

God, I miss you

i saw this commercial tonight during Glee (which was amazing, btw). It changed my life a little bit. Sarah Haskins would be proud:

Come Original - 311
Born In The U.S.A. - Bruce Springsteen
Walkin' Back To Georgia - Jim Croce
*All The Small Things - Blink-182
Shades of Time - Santana

Clever clever lyrics of the day: "Vegetable Car" by Joshua Radin. Okay so here is the chorus:

She drives a vegetable car
Diesel Mercedes green 2-door
I barely know who you are
Lisa Loeb glasses, I'd sure like to ask you to stay

A vegetable car is a car that can run on vegetable oil i guess. So he would sure like to ask her "to stay"...In case you forget, Lisa Loeb sang the 90's smash hit single "Stay (I Missed You)." See how clever? And if you cant remember her glasses, here is a refresher:

Ahhhh angry 90's soft rock women, where have you all gone?

Fuck you Rod Stewart song of the day: "The First Cut Is The Deepest" by Rod Stewart. FUCK YOU Rod Stewart. When i come at you with a knife one of these days ill make sure the first cut is really shallow. Then ill cut you DEEP mother fucker. That way not only will you be dead, but your song will be falsified. HAH.

Newly discovered quiet jam of the day: "Shameless Heart" by Josh Kelley. Give it a listen here. It has good lryics too, wish is a bonus:

I could ride her curves to the moon
With childlike innocence
Oh, I don't care, I'm being used
I've fallen in her abyss

Such a Shame award: "Fireflies" by Owl City. Being a song titled after my fav insect, i was expecting more. I mean, this is a MEGA hit right? Why? The lyrics are soooo horrible. Not to mention the fact that this guy's sound is a direct rip off of the postal service. OH and yeah, its just one guy. What kind of asshole names himself "Owl City?" Thats a name for a band.... of multiple people. Stupid. Its all very stupid.

Classic Rock Throwback of the day: "At The Zoo" by Simon & Garfunkel. This song always amused me - see why:

The monkeys stand for honesty,
Giraffes are insincere,
And the elephants are kindly but
They're dumb.
Orangutans are skeptical
Of changes in their cages,
And the zookeeper is very fond of rum.
Zebras are reactionaries,
Antelopes are missionaries,
Pigeons plot in secrecy,
And hamsters turn on frequently.
What a gas! You gotta come and see
At the zoo.

How fun right? told you.

Hidden Gem: "Walkin' Back To Georgia" by Jim Croce. This one strikes me a simple love song. I need a nice light ditty about love now and then. I love the country style its rooted in, though it sounds more like folk/classic rock to me. It reminds me of the afternoons where hours pass by sooooo easy. All warm and sleepy in the sunshine.... mmmmm.

Gold Star: "All The Small Things" by Blink-182. Duh.

Morning comute track of the day: "Shoot To Thrill" by AC/DC. I was definately jamming to this on the way to state this AM and felt pretty damn good about it.

Shoot to thrill, play to kill
Too many women with too many pills
Shoot to thrill, play to kill
I got my gun at the ready, gonna fire at will

badass.

Hidden slow emo gem: "Lyrical Lies" by Cute Is What We Aim For.

Hidden slightly hard emo gem: "Attention" by The Academy Is.

My theme song of the day: "Cowboy Casanova" by Carrie Underwood. Ive actually been told that this song reminds people of me.

You better take it from me, that boy is like a disease
You’re running, you’re trying, you’re trying to hide
And you’re wondering why you can’t get free
He’s like a curse, he’s like a drug
You get addicted to his love
You wanna get out but he’s holding you down
‘Cause you can’t live without one more touch

Im just sayin... sounds like a good time to me.

Super fun to sing along award: "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" by The Beatles. Life goes on, bra. ("Im not your 'bra'" - ID this movie quote for 6 bonus points)

Back to back Beatles songs.... what are the chances.

Gold Star: "A Day In The Life" by The Beatles. This is one of my favorite Beatles songs. I once read the this is the song Sean Lennon hears and everytime is blown away by it. I thought that was pretty neat.

Show tune of the day: "Cool" by Jets. This is from West Side Story, the movie adaptation. I love it because it is led by my favorite Jet, Ice. He plays it cool. Get it? hahaa...ha.... yeah.... just me? k. Just checkin.

Reminding me im not famous song of the day: "A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson. I was belting this song at 6:30 this morning. My apologies to mom and dad. It was a glorious moment though.

Astrology award: "Stars" by Switchfoot. This is one from a summer mix from my sister. I love it! Ive always loved stargazing and this captures the perspective that happens when you are looking at a night sky. Ahhh. "I feel like myself"

L Word Award: "Say So" by Uh Huh Her. Have i gushed about Uh Huh Her yet? And how great they are? And how hot Leisha Hailey (Alice Peizeki anyone? anyone? i see dubs, meg.... is that it? sigh) is? And how much i want to take this song, make it a house, and live in it? Oh. Okay well im gushing now. I cant get enough of this album, the whole CD is great. Download this track and see if you can get down with the electro-pop awesomeness.

Hottie of my life (this was my ipod touch background for a long time. Love.)

Leisha and Camilla. How cool are they? I totally should be friends with them... imma get on that ASAP.

James Bond theme of the day: "Another Way To Die" by Alicia Keys feat. Jack White. Dudes. Check this video out. Amazing right!!!

Attic Babes jam of 2003: "Boys of Summer" by The Ataris. This song came out when i was finishing 8th grade, AKA prime attic babes time. Mia Nicole Taylor and Tara would come over and clean my attic with me... for fun. It was always magical, expecially in July in the sweltering heat with the wasps attacking our sweat. Yay. Hahaha but really the memories are unbeatable. This song was always on the radio, along with things like "Hot in Here" by Nelly and "Hey Ya" by Outkast. Ahhhh the good ole days.

Gold Star: "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty. I saw him do this song in concert!!! it was sooooo gooooood. Fucking Tom Petty. Badass mother fucker. Love him. Ide totally do him. Dont tell anyone i told you that....

Good moral song of the day: "Don't Look Back in Anger" by Oasis. Okay so confession time - i really have no idea what this song is about. It seems simple enough at the surface, but after actually reading the lyrics im kind of confused. I still belt it like i understand it but meh. Im not too worried about it.

Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Will slowly fade away

So I start a revolution from my bed
'Cause you said the Brains I had went to my head
Step outside the summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

Right? like wtf. awesome song.

Funky jam of the day: "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder. Uungh. Yeah. Funk. I like it. Cue my mom's Eddie Murphy impression story... (schen, you know what im talking about. It is her version of the blind choir boy story. fitting much? hahah)

More to come tomorrow.

Old Man - Neil Young
Funkified - Dave Sereny
Interlude (Milo) - Modest Mouse

Almost Gold Star: "Boy On A String" by Jars of Clay. This was always one of my top 10 Jars songs. I think its because it deals with the idea of putting on a fake persona and letting others make your decisions. Im good in those areas now, but back in the day it felt like a song for me.

Gold Star: "Burn" by Ray LaMontagne. I love this song, but it was one of my break-up songs. Which is, you know, kind of hard to listen to. Even though im over it... totally... right....

Gorgeous song that makes me wanna live in a tree house song of the day: "Mother Nature's Son" by The Beatles

Lullaby award: "Good Night" by The Beatles. John wrote this for his son. Adorable right? so adorable. The whispering at the end is a little creepy though.

Motor City Award: "Detroit" by Black Gold. This is one i got in asheville. It has a little darkness which i love. Especially if you listen to the lyrics.

Soft lies on your empty face
A life in you has gone away
Sympathies go round and round
A hand full helps it all go down

Day fades away
Can't stay awake
Alone in this empty place

There's no time
To she'd your fear
But don't expect
That I'll be here

I wonder where you are
Locked on the inside
I wonder where your thoughts are
Out of the daylight
I wonder who you are
Fallen so far to be nowhere
Whatever made you think so
I wonder where you are

I would recommend this to anyone who likes late 90's alt rock. Download it here. (Right click and chose "save target as" or "download linked file")

Jam in the shower song of the day: "I Got Mine" by The Black Keys

Worn out song of the day: "Shimmer (acoustic)" by Shawn Mullins. I definatley wore this song out last fall. During November and December it was taking over my life. Now i can barely make it through the whole song... idk. I love it but maybe just need a rest. Its a good track though, its the same guy that does "Lullaby,"

Amen award: "Worlds Apart" by Jars of Clay. This whole song is great, but this part near the end always gets me:

take my world all apart
take it now, take it now
and serve the ones that I despise
speak the words I can't deny
watch the world I used to love
fall to dust and thrown away
I look beyond the empty cross
forgetting what my life has cost
so wipe away the crimson stains
"dull the nails that still remains"
so steal my heart and take the pain
take the selfish, take the weak
and all the things I cannot hide
take the beauty, take my tears
take my world apart, take my world apart
I pray, I pray, I pray
take my world apart

Songs like this remind me why i need more christian music in my life. Schen just found me a ton of CDs so hopefully that helps. She said they arent "Prozac Christian songs" which cracked me up hahaha. Oh Schen-lah.

Long drawn out story VIA song award: "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan
