Day 59

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Today's list was lame, imma be honest. At least my shamrock shake surprise made today exciting! Parker may just be my new favorite server.... he is so freaking cute. Sigh.

Here is my shamrock shake intake so far:
2/25 - 1 medium (16 oz) 530 calories 1 small (12 oz) 400 calories
2/26 - 1 large (22 oz) 730 calories
2/27 - 1 medium (16 oz) 530 calories
2/28 - 1 large (22 oz) 730 calories

Total: 4 days 88 oz 2920 calories

Wow. Awesome. I totally dont have a problem or addiction...

Back to the music! here is today's list:

Reverend Girl - The Verve Pipe
*I Can't Tell You Why - The Eagles
Juno [Ra Ra Riot/Andrew Maury Remix] master - Tokyo Police Club
The Curse of Curves - Cute Is What We Aim For
Sea of love - Honeydrippers
Gilmore Girls Theme Song - Carole King
30 Days In The Hole - Humble Pie
Booty Man - Craig David
I Got You Dancing - Lady Sovereign
Hope To Carry On - Caedmon's Call
The Man Who Sold The World - David Bowie

I Should Have Known Better - The Beatles
Runnin' With The Pack - Bad Company
Chrome Plated Heart - Melissa Etheridge
Gangsta's Paradise - Coolio Feat. L.V.
When It Started - The Strokes
Mexico City - Jolie Holland

Beautiful song of the day: "I Can't Tell You Why" by The Eagles. Im noticing through this blog how much i love The Eagles. I blame my parents, they played them all the time when i was little. ("i was a player when i was little, but now im bigger" - random Justin Bieber lyric insertion of the day). I can listen to this song on repeat for a long time without noticing its on. Thats love lol. I love the simple way they describe that mystery of love and its origin with a partner. You dont know where it comes from, why its there, or why it wont go away. But you are positive it exists. And that you cant escape it.

Look at us baby, up all night
Tearing our love apart
Aren't we the same two people who live
through years in the dark?
Ahh...
Every time I try to walk away
Something makes me turn around and stay
And I can't tell you why

Do i smell burning hair? song of the day: "The Curse of Curves" by Cute Is What We Aim For. I used to straighten my hair daily (dude, i know... i was young, let it go). I had a few songs that i played every morning while i flat ironed it, kind of like a little ritual. This was one of them. Check out the crazy straight hair ness

P.S. - Im the one on the left. And yes, i used to be blonde.

The Chair award: "Juno [Ra Ra Riot/Andrew Maury Remix] master" by Tokyo Police Club. This one actually has NOTHING to do with the movie. But i thought it made a fun award title. "It started with... a chair." Great movie. I <3>
My life anthem award: "Booty Man" by Craig David. This song really captures my pimpin lifestyle. It is so accurate i could have written in myself:

One two buckle my shoe
three four step inside the venue and i
see in the corner of my eye
this beautiful girl
that's standing by the bar looking fly
she was like a beauty queen out of a magazine
looked about 19
five minutes talking next thing
it's her number being written

Story of my life man, its the story of my life.

Gold Star: "Mr. Tambourine Man" by Bob Dylan. This one makes me cry. But like, what the hell doesnt lately? Im seriously pregnant. Anyway - The tambourine man is a drug dealer. Dylan is an addict. Of course, that is my interpretation and you may feel differently.. Here is your mission, if you choose to accept it (which you should, as dedicated fans and readers of this blog). Download the song. Read the lyrics while you listen. Figure it out and lemme know what you come up with. Aaaannnndd BREAK.

Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

More to come tomorrow.

Day 58

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

I watched Elegy today with my family. I enjoyed it immensely (and not just because Penelope Cruz was naked for 72% of it) (but it totally helped). Tons of themes were being explored and the acting was amazing, not to mention it was beautifully shot (and penelope cruz was in it.... oft without clothes.... im just sayin). Here are two of my favorite lines:

"I'm going to read you a quote of what the Puritans thought of Morton's followers. 'Debauched Bakunin aliens and atheists, falling into great licentiousness, and leading degenerate lives.'"

(Sounds fantastic)

"When you make love to a woman you get revenge for all the things that defeated you in life"

Heres today's playlist:

Stay With Me - Finch
Funky Cowboy - Goober and the Peas
Cherish - The Association
*Try Honesty - Billy Talent
One Way Or Another - Blondie
Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon
Highway Star - Deep Purple
Never Had A Dream Come True - S Club 7
Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye
*Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
Return of the Ex - Mya
True - Ryan Cabrera
Gloria (Heligmesse) - Haydn
Numb - U2
Panic In Detroit - David Bowie
Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Diana Ross
GT Road - Panjabi MC
*In Your Arms Tonight - Various Artists
Creep - Stone Temple Pilots
Don't Drink the Water - Dave Matthews Band
New - No Doubt
Clark Gable - The Postal Service
I Have Always Loved You - Enrique Iglesias
7 Hours 15 Miles - Namoli Brennet

Turn it up and pass the eyeliner song of the day: "Try Honesty" by Billy Talent. My friend turned me on to Billy Talent when i was 17. Most of it was a little too "hard" for me but i love this track. I used to blast this song on repeat when i was angry. Naturally.

I'm insane, it's your fault, so sly
Your well of lies ran dry
And I cut the cord, free fall
From so high we seem so small

breaking abstinence award: "True" by Ryan Cabrera. This song is cute but reminds me of couples who are waiting to do it til thy are married (which i totally understand and respect, just so everyone knows). I mean...

I've waited all my life to cross this line
to the only thing thats true
so I will not hide
its time to try anything to be with you
all my life I've waited
this is true

Right? right. its cute. its true. it makes my little cold heart start to mush. So i limit my listening - i cant be getting all soft on you guys, i have a cynical blog to maintain dammit.

Ain't no coincidence strange enough award: "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Diana Ross. Isnt is fun that i had two versions of the same song on the same day?? I love things like this. Marvin Gaye's version wins by a landslide. It wasnt even a competition. He is a sexy mother effing singer.

Don't song of the day: "Numb" by U2. He says don't 90 times in this song. 90. I feel like they were high and playing madlibs and it turned into "lets make a list of random verbs, then try and make a song out of it." I like that the edge sings this one, mostly cuz i hate bono. like HATE. its a cool song, regardless of its repetitive "dont" ness. When you read the lyrics it actually does have a neat message hidden in there.

Don't touch I feel numb
Don't dive
Don't suffer
Don't rhyme
Don't fantasize
Don't rise
Don't lie
I feel numb
Don't project
Don't connect
Protect I feel numb
Don't expect
Suggest

It gets kind of trippy if you read into the lyrics. And listen to it on repeat. For 20 minutes. While on acid. Im just guessing, its not like i would know from experience. ANYWHO.... (haha i actually dont know from experience. i feel like i should clarify that)

Hidden Gem: "Creep" by Stone Temple Pilots. This song is so 105.9 "The Buzz" circa mid 90's. You know it, its the one that's like "im half the man i used to be" and all that. It gets the hidden gem because A) i didnt know the song from the title and B) i didnt know how much i liked it. It really calmed me today in an interesting way. Good job

Pete and Repete walk into a bar award: "Don't Drink the Water" by Dave Matthews Band. I kept playing this one all day, i didnt know i liked it so much. I dont even care what its about, i just like it.

Gold Star: "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton. Another AMAZING song from an AMAZING Utah Mix. If you dont know it you should check it out. Thanks Marcie :)

You probably dont know this one song of the day: "In Your Arms Tonight" by Various Artists. This is from the Hedwig and the Angry Inch soundtrack. AKA from the best rock musical EVER! I watched it last year on my birthday - THATS how much i love it. (my birthday is a big deal.... i dont know if you knew that about me. it is consistent with my ego mania and love of mirrors). Here is a download link and the entire lyrics. Hopefully you listen, read, understand, appreciate and enjoy as much as i do :)

Running head on
To things that knock me down
Over again
He picked me off the ground
And I wasn't strong enough to fight
Anymore, but In Your Arms Tonight

Hold me close and tight
In your arms tonight
In your arms tonight
In your arms tonight
Oh my love

God only knows
Why I don't just retreat
'Stead of riding the rails
Back to the place of my worst defeat
'Cause I'm not fooling anyone, not quite
Convincing You
But when your arms are in mine

Try not to be strong
Cry 'til it's all gone
If you hold me tight
In your arms tonight
Oh my love

For years you've seen in me the one who'd be there for you
The way I need you, here tonight
Yeah yeah yeah

In your arms tonight
In your arms tonight
In your arms tonight
ooh in your arms ooh my love oh yah ooh ooh ooh yah

My ending thought of today's blog comes in the form of lyrics from one of today's songs,"Clark Gable" by The Postal Service.

I want so badly to believe that "there is truth, that love is real"
And I want life in every word to the extent that it's absurd
I know you're wise beyond your years, but do you ever get the fear
That your perfect verse is just a lie you tell yourself to help you get by?

More to come tomorrow.

*Crush - Dave Matthews Band
Life is a Highway - Tom Cochrane
After Hours - The White Stripes

Second times a charm award: "Wasted and Ready" by Ben Kweller. This song was on my list yesterday and i almost shined the spotlight on it, but decided to skip over it. Then it popped up again today and i thought "all right, your persistence has paid off." If its on tomorrows list though ill just get angry. I mean, we get it, you are a funny clever song about very relatable situations. And you sound like a Weezer song. I like you. Just play it cool and dont be so anxious. Seriously. Two days in a row is plenty.

Misheard lyrics song of the day: "Evil Woman" by Electric Light Orchestra. I used to think this song was called "Medieval Woman." Like medieval times. Like knights and castles and shit. DONT LAUGH AT ME! it totally sounds like it during the chorus.... (im such a tool)

AMAZING cover award: "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" by The White Stripes. You should really download this. I mean it. Do it, please. You owe it to yourself to hear the greatness that is Jack White (and Meg White).

KATE MOSS + A WHITE STRIPES SONG + STRIPPER POLE = EPIC

Flashback song song of the day: "Take Me the Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson. It reminds me of culinary school. And new love. And that one old navy commercial. Sigh.

'Cause I love you more than I could ever promise
And you take me the way I am

Cool music video award: "Starlight" by Muse. It has a cool music video.

Yay for fireworks!

Song about a Pididdle! Song of the day: "One Headlight" by The Wallflowers. Okay is somebody slipping me pills with extra estrogen? I mean seriously.... i cried again? This time i was in public too. Whatevs. Its because this time, when i listened to this song, i wasnt singing it to a girl like i usually do. I was singing it to myself. It changed the meaning into something a lot deeper and more personal:

Well this place is old
It feels just like a beat up truck
I turn the engine, but the engine doesn't turn
Well it smells of cheap wine & cigarettes
This place is always such a mess
Sometimes I think I'd like to watch it burn
I'm so alone, and I feel just like somebody else
Man, I ain't changed, but I know I ain't the same
But somewhere here in between the city walls of dyin' dreams
I think her death it must be killin' me

Hey, come on try a little
Nothing is forever
There's got to be something better than
In the middle
But me & Cinderella
We put it all together
We can drive it home
With one headlight

Get the lyrics to the whole song here.

This doesnt help the boner ive had for the entire week song of the day: "Come A Little Closer" by Dierks Bentley. Fucking SEXY song. Sexy. Have you seen thsi video? I cant even watch it right now... im like, unstable. (i apologize for giving TMI to my sister and mom. but not really.)

Every word is true award: "Crush" by Dave Matthews Band. This is one the songs i used to hear and think "wow, this is about my life." We all do it, i know, but i was soooo into this one. I love the way the bass line and brass and all the elements propel the story line more than the lyrics can. The sound is so smooth, smokey, dimly lit, chilly wind, smell of old rain, cloudy sky, cracked sidewalk, melting ice cube, jingling apartment keys, cotton sheets, and spring around the corner. I love the world it takes you to, if you let it. Try it out. Plus the full version is over 8 minutes. I love long songs. I feel like they get to say a lot more.

Where the wild song of the day is award: "Wake Up" by The Arcade Fire. This song also gets the Hidden Gem award (thats a download link, if you didnt know. right click and chose "save target as" or "download linked file"). I was jamming to it while walking to class in the snow... it made it seem like i was in a movie. Which you know i always LOVE. The lyrics are right up my alley (thats what she said) with their themes of losing childhood magic and becoming a boring adult. Boring people are lame. Dont be boring.

Somethin’ filled up
my heart with nothin’,
someone told me not to cry.

But now that I’m older,
my heart’s colder,
and I can see that it’s a lie.

Make me smile song of the day" "After Hours" by The White Stripes. This is a live track i found of The White Stripes covering "After Hours" by The Velvet Underground in concert. Meg sings it, which is adorable even off key. I wikipedia-ed it and found this:

It is one of few songs with lead vocals by drummer Maureen Tucker, as Lou Reed stated the song was "so innocent and pure" that he could not possibly sing it himself.

I listened to the original and i must say, it sounds A LOT like Meg. Same idea too, the girl drummer taking the lead on a song too innocent for the crazy front man. This is the kind of music trivia i love.

Friday.... friday was a good day. if there ever is such a thing.

Made me cry song of the day: "The Call" by Regina Spektor. I first heard this with someone special and never knew i had it on my itunes (it was from a mix from my sister). When it came on today the breath got caught leaving my lungs.... If you havent heard it, listen to it here. I played it all day, and it choked me up each time.

It started out as a feeling
which then grew into a hope

Sexy song award: "A Million Ways" by OK Go. This is possibly my favorite OK Go song. Here are my favorite part of the lyrics:

I should. I wish I could.
Maybe if you were I would.
A list of standard issue regrets.
One last 80 proof
Slouching in the corner booth.
Baby it's as good as it gets.

Oh such grace
Oh such beauty
So precious, suspicious, and charming, and vicious.
Oh darlin'
You're a million ways
Oh darlin'
You're a million ways to be cruel.

You like that huh? Duh, its fantastic. Get it here.

Badass Flute Solo Award: "Thick As A Brick" by Jethro Tull. I think this song is stupid. The only thing that saves it is the BADASS FLUTING! haha here is where badass fluting rates on my scale of awesome:

Good Music > Sex > Badass Flute Solo > Chocolate > Broccoli > Losing your left arm in a freak hula hooping accident > Kidney Failure > Killing babies > Synthesized Ogran Solos (this is directed at you, The Doors. its never okay)

Made me cry (AGAIN) song of the day: "Leaving On A Jet Plane" by Chantal Kreviazuk. Im serious, i was sniffling at the kitchen table. I dont know why, i really dont. But i couldnt help it. She is leaving.... on a jet plane... and says "babe" at one point which really got to me... i dont know/

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time, oh, let me kiss you
And close your eyes and I'll be on my way

Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times that I won't have to say ...

Oh, kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

I know. its intense. Whatevs, im better now. This song makes me think of Armageddon hahaaha:

A.J.: You know what I was thinkin'?
Grace: What?
A.J.: I-I really don't think that the animal cracker qualifies as a cracker.
Grace: Why?
A.J.: Well cause it's sweet, which to me suggests cookie, and, you know, I mean putting cheese on something is sort of the defining characteristic of what makes a cracker a cracker. I don't know why I thought of that, I just...
Grace: Baby, you have such sweet pillow talk.

Best. Animal Cracker. Scene. Ever.

Sooo 6th grade song of the day: "Flavour Of The Week" by American Hi-Fi. I loved the line "He's too stoned, Nintendo" when this song came out... i was literally in 6th grade... i had no idea what the hell he was singing about but i liked video games. Hahahahaha oh youth. (Its still my favorite line)

Gold Star: "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right [Demo-Version]" by Bob Dylan. Have you heard this? you need to hear this. You need to download this. It is Dylan as i love him most. Check out these lyrics:

It ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don’t matter, anyhow
An’ it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don’t know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I’ll be gone
You’re the reason I’m trav’lin’ on
Don’t think twice, it’s all right

It ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An’ it ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe
I’m on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin’ you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin’ anyway
So don’t think twice, it’s all right

It ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal
I can’t hear you anymore
I’m a-thinkin’ and a-wond’rin’ all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I’m told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don’t think twice, it’s all right

I’m walkin’ down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I’m bound, I can’t tell
But goodbye’s too good a word, gal
So I’ll just say fare thee well
I ain’t sayin’ you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don’t mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don’t think twice, it’s all right

FANTASTIC RIGHT??

Universal video clip montage song of the day: "Clocks" by Coldplay. This song is sooooo background music to damatic movie clips right? right? totally. Now check this video out - YOURE WELCOME.

So Post All 'Em - Yacht

Amazing Way to Start the Day (Hey that rhymes!) Award: "Show You Love" by Jars Of Clay. I was telling my sister that i need more/better Christian music on my iTunes. I have been scanning the Christian radio stations and not really loving a whole lot. This is one of the songs i DO love, the message lyrics and music all are inspiring. Great way to start the day :)

Gold Star: "Is This It" by The Strokes. I listened to this album every morning on the bus to school for prob 2 months straight. I loooooved it and still do. This song.... its so fucking classic. I go back and forth when i sing it - sometimes i like "Is this it?" to be a question that asks "Is this really all your going to give me? really?" Other times its "Is this the moment where it all happens?" and still others to be "Is this what ive been looking for?" If you listen to it you will see what i mean. It works in a lot of different contexts.

Reminds me why I Love The White Stripes song of the day: "Little People" by The White Stripes. I mean, check out these lyrics:

There's a little girl who says bing bing bomb
There's a little girl who says bing bing bomb
hello
oh, oh

There's a little boy with a spider in his hand
There's a little boy with a spider in his hand
hello
oh, oh

There's a little girl with the red shoes on
There's a little girl with the red shoes on
hello
oh, oh

There's a little boy with twenty five cents
There's a little boy with twenty five cents
hello
oh, oh

And there's a little girl with a tiger on her bed
There's a little girl with a tiger on her bed
hello
oh, oh

There's a little boy with nothin' on his mind
There's a little boy with nothin' on his mind
hello

Thats it. Thats the song. How effing ridiculous and simple is that? im sure he has some big meaning behind it but seriously... its about nothing. And thats why i love it.

Almost Gold Star: "I'm Looking Through You" by The Beatles. It came on during my commute right as i started heading down the mountain (you know, the crazy curvy road where it turns into 2 lanes one way and you fly at 75 to 80 mph past all the lame slowpokes in the right hand lane). I couldnt help but smile HUGE and turn it up. Great lyrics for feeling SLIGTHLY bitter haha:

I'm looking through you, where did you go
I thought I knew you, what did I know
You don't look different, but you have changed
I'm looking through you, you're not the same

Why, tell me why, did you not treat me right?
Love has a nasty habit of disappearing overnight

Note: This is NOT directed at anyone. I just like the lyrics, im not trying to subliminally send messages. Ok. Just clearing that up.

Hidden Gem: "Daring Daylight Escape" by Caedmon's Call. I have loved this song for a while but could never find it on my iTunes. It was given to me on a Mix from Schen and i didnt get around to labeling the tracks titles and artists. Soooo for the longest time it was "Track 08 on Mix 5 from Schen." Not easy to find when you want to. Now itll be in rotation for sure. Check it out.

104 plays on my iTunes play count and counting award: "Just Stay" by Kevin Devine. This song reminds me of May '08, when i was getting clean. The song meaning is so obvious, but its not only the lyrics that get me. Its the passion they are sung with. When he hits the ending refrain i lose it - he gets it. You can tell he knows what he is talking about it and has felt it. Hear it here. Question for the audience: do you think that he is asking the girl/boy he loves to stay, asking the high from the drugs to stay, or asking himself to stay himself a while longer?

That would be bad for your eyes song of the day: "Staring At the Sun" by TV on the Radio. This song seems to either be about sex or death. But really, whats the difference?

i am the conscience clear
in pain or ecstasy
and we were all weaned my dear
upon the same fatigue

staring at the sun
oh my own voice cannot save me now
standing in the sea
it's just one more breath
and then down i go

your mouth is open wide
the lover is inside
and all the tumults done
collided with the sign
you're staring at the sun
you're standing in the sea
your body's over me

I recommend downloading this one for sure. It gets better each time you hear it.

More to come tomorrow.

Cliche but meh, i dig it award: "Seed" by Namoli Brennet. Its kind of a worn out bunch of ideas put back to back to a nice melody. But you know, im into it. i like it. i couldnt find lyrics to this song online, which ALWAYS blows my mind. The internet has everything right?? How can it fail??? its too mind blowing to think about. anyway, i typed up the lyrics so that they are now at least on the world wide web. Its my contribution. woo hoo.

grannys in the front yard
crazy like a fox with her housecoat and her mismatched socks
she doesnt look like a hell of a lot
but she still got a couple of things she knows yeah

one time im walking down the street she says
come over here girl sit down on my knee
ill tell you something someone told me a long long time ago

If the seed falls from the tree
let it alone
and if that seed never grows
then that seed was wrong

years later i married that guy
he was an asshole but still i had to try
i took the kids and left one night
cuz i remember what granny said and shes right

ill never let anyone take a bite out of me
well the apple never falls far from the tree

ive never been afraid to drive
for fear of losing ground or losing my mind
if was gone then it was never mine
i remember this everytime

If the seed falls from the tree
let it alone
and if that seed never grows
then that seed was wrong

"Pink Houses" by John Cougar Mellencamp is not about pink houses. if you didnt know. its kind of serious and sad.

And there's winners and there's losers
But they ain't no big deal
'Cause the simple man baby pays for the thrills,
the bills, the pills that kill

Its a pink house

AAAANNNNNDDD im in jr. high song of the day: "7 Days" by Craig David. This song is still kind of really amazing. I mean, you gotta love a guy who has his week so ironed out. So if today is tuesday, what should i be doing according to Craig David's pimp schedule? Lets check the lyrics of the chorus!

I met this girl on Monday
took her for a drink on Tuesday
we were making love by Wednesday
and on Thursday & Friday & Saturday we chilled on Sunday

Cool, i gotta take a girl out for drinks. Hmmm, i DID meet this hottie yesterday, she was really down to earth and shared my love of the Bachelor. And kept talking about how hot Ali (one of the Bachelor rejects) is. Hmmmmm.... drinks you say Craig? Drinks it is.

Oh and i love that he takes a day of rest on Sunday. Even we pimps need a break now and then.

WHAT THE FUCK AWARD: "Hobgoblin" by John Zorn. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!?!?! this isnt even MUSIC???? why the hell is this on my computer????? HOBO-GOBLIN??? thats the song title? really? I cant believe i had to listen to over 2 minutes of this shit. Please - feel my pain. (does empathy ever help in the healing?)

Gold Star: "This Place Is A Prison" by The Postal Service. It is beyond depressing if you let it be, but i like sad music:

I know there's a big world out there like the one i saw on the screen
In my living room late last night,
It was almost too bright to see
And i know that it's not a party if it happens every night
Pretending there's glamour and candelabra
When you're drinking by candlelight

Hidden Gem: "A Little Place Behind My Eyes" by Jessie Kilguss. I havent heard anything by her before - she reminds me of Ingrid Michaelson of Liz Phair. That kind of cool pop girl vibe. But she has a sick backbeat behind this song, it sounds like "Empire State of Mind" in the first few seconds. Check it out.

Leave it all behind song of the day: "Leave Like A Ghost (Drive Away)" by The Juliana Theory. Okay, is it just me or have there been a millipon songs in the last 5 years about running away? I mean seriously. It seems to be the go-to teen fantasy. Things are hard, youre a teenager, youre agnsty, you got in a fight with your bff about her ex bf thinking of you as a gf kind of, and you dont have a date for prom. So lets leave it all behind and drive til we get to california. See examples below:

"Leave Like A Ghost (Drive Away)" by The Juliana Theory:
Just drive away,
'Cause no one here will save you.
Drive away and don't look back,
You're gone.

"Ocean Avenue" by Yellowcard:
if I could find you now things would get better
We could leave this town and run forever
I know somewhere, somehow we'll be together
Let your waves crash down on me and take me away

"Boston" by Augustana:
She said I think I'll go to Boston...
I think I'll start a new life,
I think I'll start it over, where no one knows my name

"Check Yes Juliet" by We The Kings:
run baby run
don't ever look back
they'll tear us apart
if you give them the chance
don't sell your heart
don't say we're not meant to be
run baby run
forever will be
you and me

My response to these sentiments comes in the form of Dexter Freebish lyrics:
'Cause I remember how we drank time together
And how you used to say that the stars are forever.
And daydreamed about how to make your life better by
Leaving town, leaving town.

You know, the rate of teen runaways has been rising and i think ive found out why. Listen guys... its all going to be okay. It may suck now, but things move forward and change. It will get different. You will be alright. Dont run away to California, just chill the fuck out. You got this.

Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
Second Chance - .38 Special
Vultures - John Mayer

Hairspray = Awesome Award: "The Nicest Kids In Town" by James Marsden. Is it lame that when they did role call and got to Link i like, squealed? I cant help it.... Zac is just so pretty....

Sounds Like David Bowie song of the day: "All The Young Dudes" by Mott The Hoople, I looked it up and it turns out David Bowie wrote this song ahahah. I knew it. I couldnt figure out what movie it was in and it was bugging the crap out of me. So i googled it and drum roll please... JUNO. It was in Juno. It feels so much better after you figure those things out doesnt it?

Hilarious nautically themed story award: "When Doves Cry" by Prince. We took a family trip to the Outer Banks, NC with about 21 people one summer (summer '05). We had a big house on the beach in a secluded area, so we had fun fishing and finding shells and things you dont get to do at crowded beaches. We noticed how many small fish rode in on the crests of waves and went out with the tide. There were some bigger guys that would chase them in and out - very fun to watch. I decided to try and catch some, so dad took me to a novelty shop a couple miles away and we got 2 crab fishing nets (basically ones kids use to catch butterflies. Or to hit each other in the heads with). I ran around that day trying to catch the fish, singing "When the Doves Cry" for 4 hours on loop (not an exaggeration, i was doing this for 4 hours). I caught 11 fish. We put them in a hole we dug a ways up the beach that was deep enough. The little kids loved it, they were playing with the fish the rest of the day. I CAUGHT 11 FUCKING FISH PEOPLE. With a tiny net. Chasing waves. For 4 hours. I got a hell of a tan that day :)

Gold Star: "Another Girl Another Planet" by The Only Ones. I heard this song on an indie movie i watched on demand a day in Asheville. The movie wasnt that great, but i loved certain scenes. One of the best featured this song - ive been hooked ever since. The line that made me remember the song and decide to download it? Its in bold:

You get under my skin
I don't find it irritating

You always play to win
I don't need rehabilitating

I think I'm on another world with you
I'm on another planet with yo
u

When i heard it, i remember thinking that i couldnt wait to have the feeling of being on another planet with someone. Its an interesting way to describe that part of love - the way it can separate two people into a bubble of their own reality. Good or bad, it sure is true. Or the songs about heroin. Meh. Either or.

Makes me want to pollute award: "The Most Beautiful World In The World" by Harry Nilsson. Stupid song. A truly stupid stupid stupid song.

Inspires me to write a letter song of the day: "Country Comforts" by Rod Stewart.

Dear Rod Stewart,
I hate you. I really do. I dont just hate your music, but i hate you as a person. I dislike you to the point of murder. The only reason i havent killed you is "Maggie May." Its your one saving grace. You are very lucky. I hope you die a painful death of unnatural causes very very soon.

Sincerley,
The Pilge

Hidden Gem: "About Her" by Malcolm McLaren. Damn, this one emotes something fierce. It says a lot without words, which is my favorite music. It would deliver the same message even if you took out the lyrics. Check it out.

Sexy fucking song of the day: "Vultures" by John Mayer. MMMMMMM. This album (Continuum, if youre not a huge Mayer fan and dont know what this ones from.... AKA if youre lame) is one i can listen to twice in a row and not mind. It sounds like fall though, which is confusing. Have a listen.

Wheels up
I got to leave this evening
Can't seem to shake these vultures
Off of my trail
Power is made, by power being taken
So I keep on running
To protect my situation

Down to the wire
I wanted water but
I'll walk through the fire
If this is what it takes
To take me even higher
Then I'll come through
Like I do
When the world keeps
Testing me, testing me

Day 52

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Day 52. If you put that into a calculator and turn it upside down guess what it says? Go on, try it..... ill give you a minute....

haha amazing isnt it? :)

Heres the list:

Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
*Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Workshop Of The Telescopes - Blue Öyster Cult
First Time - Hawk Nelson
Staring Problem - No Doubt
How You Remind Me - Nickelback
Ashes Ashes - Hidden in Plain View
Chattahoochee (Extended Mix) - Alan Jackson
Dying Star - Nickel Eye
Yaar Kure (Twerk It) [Bhinda Aujla feat MC Lycra & Priya] - DJ Vix

Cheek to Cheek - Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong
Blue Veins (Acoustic) - The Raconteurs
Running Up That Hill - Placebo
Highway To Hell - AC/DC
Happier - Guster
The Birthday Wars - Oxford Collapse

Why yes, thank you itunes, this IS a fantastic wakeup song! award: "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond. This makes me think of Glee. And Saving Silverman. And this hot girl Caroline that i partied with once. WIN.

Chillin Mix Award: "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Okay, so have i told you about The Chillin Mix yet? It was this mix CD i made senior year for me and ash and dani a night. It was basically Epic and became our anthem for the summer. It was always in her car when we cruised or in a boombox by the pool and firepit. This was track 5 (yes, i have them all memoriezed) and we ALWAYS "turned it up". I mean, the guy tells you too in the first 5 seconds. It would be rude not to. I MISS YOU NUMERO UNO!!! (im pretty sure she doesnt ever read this but fuck it)

Gold Star: "Layla" by Derek & The Dominos. This song is AMAZING. I love the complete switch into piano land after all the crazy electric guitar shredding. Each of the two sections were written by completely different people, but they work so well together. The meaning of this one is obvious - Eric Clapton wrote it about his feelings for Pattie Boyd (while she was still George Harrison's wife. OOPS). I love the panic in his voice during the first section. You can hear the urgency and distress of a heart in conflict with itself. Plus it has pretty much the coolest opening riff of all time (its my fav for sure). Then it switches to the instrumental piano section. Notice the soft guitar wailing in the background. It says more than his lyrics ever could.

What'll you do when you get lonely
And nobody's waiting by your side?
You've been running and hiding much too long.
You know it's just your foolish pride.

Layla, you've got me on my knees.
Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down.

Layla, you've got me on my knees.
Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

Let's make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don't say we'll never find a way
And tell me all my love's in vain.

Layla, you've got me on my knees.
Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

Anthem of dirty mistresses everywhere.

Im totally naming a kid this but not after this song song of the day: "Jamie" by Weezer. I actually like Dashboard Confessional's cover of this song better than the original. I love the name for a boy or a girl. Maybe ill have one of each, like Pete and Pete but more confusing and cruel.

Weird timing award: "The Ballad of Michael Valentine" by The Killers. I just finished watching "This is It" with my mom. Weird. Mallo gave me this one and ive always thought it was a fun little story.

With your new suit and your black tie,
Hold on you're just a gambling man
All proper, like
Well I broke to the right,
And I caught your eye
Shut your mouth and wave goodbye
Tonight,
I ain't gonna let you rain on this parade

Hidden Gem: "Running Up That Hill" by Placebo. His voice in this song reminds me of the lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie. I got this track on a mix CD from a friend, so i just had it titled "Track 20." Im happy i know what it is now, and will be listening to it more. Its beautiful.

You don't want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware that I'm tearing you asunder.
There is thunder in our hearts, baby.
So much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?

You, be running up that hill
You and me, be running up that hill
You and me won't be unhappy.

'C'mon, baby, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let's exchange the experience, oh...

Lead singer of Placebo, Brian Molko - I think im in love

Day 51

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Guess who has an ear infection? THIS GIRL. I used to get them all the time as a kid. It must be from all that swimming i was doing this week... outside.. in February...

After today i will have listened to exactly 1200 songs. 1200! doesnt that seem like a lot? wow. i still cant believe ive stuck it out this long. Here's today's list:

Come Together - John Butler Trio
Ain't It Heavy - Melissa Etheridge
Can I Have It Like That - Pharrell
Honky Tonk Women - Joe Cocker
Dil Chura Leyah - Punjabi Hit Squad
I Don't Think So - Priscilla Ahn
*April Come She Will - Simon & Garfunkel
I'd Rather Be With You - Joshua Radin
Take Me on the Floor - The Veronicas
Out Loud - Dispatch
Unanswered Prayers (Live) - Garth Brooks
Better Than This - Keane
Come Together - Aerosmith
Wig In A Box - The Polyphonic Spree
*Halo/ Walking on Sunshine - Glee
Sun Giant - Fleet Foxes
(I'm A) Roadrunner - Junior Walker & The All Stars
American Woman - Lenny Kravitz
Aftermath - Adam Lambert
Cell Block Tango (He Had It Comin') - Featuring Lil' Kim, And Macy Gray, Queen Latifah
Batten Down The Hatch - Snow Patrol
*Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
*Country Grammar - Nelly
Boom Boom - The Yardbirds

I love this song partially because im connecting my own life to the lyrics song of the day: "I Don't Think So" by Priscilla Ahn. We all do it. That song that you KNOW probably isnt meant in the way you take it, but you take it that way anyway cuz it reminds you of your life and situation. This one reminds me of December...

I think I should go
I can feel your eyes look at me and the door
Oh, I can take a hint
Oh, I can take a clue
You're giving me the go, sir
You're giving me the boot.

And I've been really too nice, I know
You probably thought that we were just a show
But you left me utterly confused
I am not here for you to use.
So you better listen up,
You better listenclose
I don't think so

AAAANNNND done with the being emo. Next....

Gold Star: "April Come She Will" by Simon & Garfunkel. Did i mention how i feel about these two? If i had 3 wishes, one of them would be to have the 1965 versions of Paul and Art follow me around singing music to fit my life. My life soundtrack, at my command, sung in perfect harmony. How fantastic would that be???

She is walking, into the gas station
Now she is ordering an MTO
Now make it to order, but order not too hasty
Make sure its tasty
And dont forget the mayo

Anyway, this song is less than 2 minutes and tells a relatable story of the beginnings and ends of a relationship. Once again, total projection. Its just vague enough that it could be youre life too.

Summary of the song "Take Me on the Floor" by The Veronicas: Im out clubbing and wanna find a really hot stranger that i can dance dirty with and make out with. So lets get wasted and find a one night stand. Now THAT is a song i can get down with! haah. No but really, i do love this song. Its my inner "trashy skimpy top wearing pill popping lagoona beach watching spoiled rich girl form the west coast" 's theme song. Like Oh Em Gee! Imma go tweet and txt my besties...

Shockingly Good lyrics award: "Ain't It Heavy" by Melissa Etheridge. I resist liking her because of the cliche, and also because she can be kind of lame sometimes. Im sorry, but its true. I wish all her stuff sounded like "Come to my window" and "Im the Only One," but it doesnt. So im sad. But these lyrics stood out to me today:

I'm feelin' kinda loose I'm feelin' kinda mean
I've been feeling kinda wild since I turned seventeen
Or is it madness
Tell me where can a woman find any kind of peace
When does the fury and the agony cease
How long have I got to say please
There's a hole in my jeans I only wanted to fade
I've been ripping out seams
Somebody else made tonight

Heavy
Ain't it heavy
Ain't the night heavy

She did good, right? A+ miss etheridge, A+.

Weird that they are on the same day songs of the day: "Come Together" by John Butler Trio and "Come Together" by Aerosmith. Now, if Joe Crocker's version and the original by The Beatles were on here i would probably just quit life. But i can handle a sweet coincidence every now and then

Hidden Gem: "Out Loud" by Dispatch. Ian has hooked me UP with some great stuff! This is from one of 7 CDs he made me when my laptop got stolen and i lost all my music. He is a sweetheart. I never paid attention to how beautiful this one is (right click and chose "save target as" or "download liked file" to download). It makes me think of Lost and Delirious. Anyone? Anyone? I see Dubs has her hand up, and so does Karen. Anyone else? sigh. its okay, its a Piper Perabo thing.

I suppose I would…
And if we were walkin down a dead-end street
Would you be the one to let our eyes meet?
Or would you just keep on walking down to the turnaround?
Cause you know I would be proud
If you'd call my name out loud
If you'd call my name out loud
Do you suppose that I would come running?

Do you supposed I'd come at all?
I suppose I would…

Don't ever touch a raptor

Make me smile song of the day: "Halo/ Walking on Sunshine" by Glee: I FUCKING LOVE GLEE!!! this was from the episode where they did the mash-ups. i couldn't believe how well these two songs worked together. Check it out.

Horrific cover of the day: "Cell Block Tango (He Had It Comin')" by Queen Latifah feat. Lil' Kim and Macy Gray. A lyric from this version?

Cuz i look real cute in orange jump suits

NOT OKAY. This is just.... like... MACY GRAY? im done. Im really happy i am only experiencing this pain in one ear. Yay for protective ear infections.

Almost Gold Star: "Like A Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan. My friend DaVita just told me that Dylan wrote this song about Edie Sedgwick. I think it makes a lot of sense, if you know the Sedgwick/Dylan/Warhol back story (check out the movie "Factory Girl" sometime if you dont). I also found this online, so you know it has to be true:

The title is not a reference to The Rolling Stones. It is taken from the phrase "A rolling stone gathers no moss." Dylan got the idea from the Hank Williams song "Lost Highway," which contains the line, "I'm a rolling stone, I'm alone and lost."

Good to know. I love Dylan, but not as much as my numero uno Ash. But i am usually down for a Dylan marathon now and then.

Hot girl in the video song of the day: "American Woman" by Lenny Kravitz. HEATHER FUCKING GRAHAM:

People ask when i knew i was attracted to women. I was 10 when this video came out. I was obsessed and didnt understand why. Question ANSWERED. Damn girl....

Dubs Award: "Country Grammar" by Nelly. This is my ringtone for when she calls my cell. Basically because she is so gangsta. Also because they say Dubs twice in the first verse. I was trying to memorize this song last summer (cuz im a cool kid) and have the chorus and 1st verse DOWN. I know most of the 2nd and 3rd, but he says the n-word like 23 times. So i decided i should stop rapping that part. Here's the first (and best) verse:

Mmmmm, You Can Find Me, In St. Louis Rollin On Dubs
Smokin On Dubs In Clubs, Blowin Up Like Cocoa Puffs
Sippin Bud, Gettin Perved And Getting Dubbed
Daps And Hugs, Mean Mugs And Shoulder Shrugs
And It's All Because, 'Ccumulated Enough Stretch
Just To Navigate It, Wood Decorated On Chrome
And It's Candy Painted, Fans Fainted - While I'm Entertainin
Wild Ain't It? How Me And Money End Up Hangin
I Hang With Hannibal Lector (HOT SHIT!) So Feel Me When I Bring It
Sing It Loud (What?) I'm From The Lou' And I'm Proud
Run A Mile - For The Cause, I'm Righteous Above The Law
Playa My Style's Raw, I'm "Born To Mack" Like Todd Shaw
Forget The Fame, And The Glamour
Give Me D's Wit A Rubber Hammer
My Grammar Be's Ebonics, Gin Tonic And Chronic
Fuck Bionic It's Ironic, Slammin Niggaz Like Onyx
Lunatics Til The Day I Die
I Run More Game Than The Bulls And Sonics

I can rap that. The whole thing. From memory. A Cappella. Right now. Yeah, dont try and hide it, i know you're impressed :)

More to come tomorrow.

Day 50

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

So yesterday i woke up with a slightly sore throat. No big right? And then i was soooo tired all morning in class, but i figured its because i skipped my morning coffee right? By the time i got to work i was nauseous... weird but still kinda okay. And by close i was effing exhausted, almost falling over. I went home and passed out without even showering (ewww! dirty hippie!). I could barely wake up this morning and almost skipped class. Yep. Im sick. Again. Can it just be spring now, please? I havent been healthy in a month (ever since i got effing swine flu). Sigh. BUT i listened to the entire Shins album "Wincing the Night Away" during my morning commute and it helped a little. Heres the list:

Friend Is a Four Letter Word - Cake
Is This Love, Or Isn't it? - Jaymay
*Ring Of Fire - Johnny Cash
Fast Forward To 2012 - A Day To Remember
Broken Boy Soldeir (Acoustic) - The Raconteurs
Salt, Pepa, Spinderella - Johnny Foreigner
Kentucky 1800 - Centre County Band 2002
Just What I Needed - The Cars
Love In Plaster - The Hives
Even - Dispatch
In the New Year - The Walkmen
Sea Legs - The Shins
Angel With Attitude - The Ditty Bops
All Around The World - Oasis
Shining Star - Backstreet Boys
I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love - Chicago
Up The Hill Backwards - David Bowie
Closed Captioned Slang - TK Webb & The Visions
*4 Minutes - Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake
*Miss You - The Rolling Stones
Everybody Plays The Fool - Main Ingredient
To Know Her Is To Love Her - The Beatles
Levon - Elton John

Gold Star: "Ring Of Fire" by Johnny Cash. If the lyrics werent enough for it to win the gold, then my love for the film "Walk the Line" put it in the winner's circle (of fire) (hahaha get it? ring of fire? cirlce of fire? im sorry... ill shape up). What makes this song even better is that June Carter wrote the lyrics.

The Taste Of Love Is Sweet
When Hearts Like Ours Meet
I Fell For You Like A Child
Oh,But The Fire Went Wild

Epic.

Hidden Gem: "Is This Love, Or Isn't it?" by Jaymay. The lyrics are simple and the message obvious. But sometimes its nice to be able to just take a song at face value: to not have to decode the cryptic meaning. She sings this one ligthly and it sounds juvenile in so many ways. But after all, love can turn us all into 14 year olds.

Holy awesomeness Batman! Award: "Love In Plaster" by The Hives. This is a first time listen for me on this track and i love it! I really believe Pelle when he belts out these lyrics:

I really thought
That we had something moving faster
Than love in plaster.
I really thought
That we had something growing stronger
But it grew no longer.
I thought this time...
Yeahhhh.

I really thought
That we had something set in motion
More than foul devotion.
I really thought
That we had something out of the ordinary
More than stationary.
I thought this time...
What we had you and I!

Said I'm losing my mind
Yeah I got bit all the time
And I'm better off dead
Cause it was all in my head
Now it's all lost
It's all gone
Don't I know it

I really thought
That we had some-thing...More than a...
BORE!!!!
I really thought
That we had something more than a violation
Of my imagination
I thought this time...
What we had you and I

Said I'm losing my mind
Yeah I got bit all the time
And I'm better off dead
Cause it was all in my head
Now it's all lost
It's all gone
Don't I know it

And I'm better off dead!!!

I really thought it could work out
I learned it couldn't cos somehow
We couldn't get along..We wouldn't get along
A little something on the side
Would make you feel more worthwhile
You think..I won't be long...you couldn't be more wrong.
I thought this time..
What we had
You and I

Said I'm losing my mind
Yeah I got bit all the time
And I'm better off dead
Cause it was all in my head

Now it's all lost
And it's all gone!
Don't I know it.

Yes, thats the entire song. I felt like it was all too good to deny you the opportunity to read them yourself. Download this if you are bitter towards love and are into fast paced alt rock like The Vines and The Arctic Monkeys.

Pelle Almqvist of the Hives

Reminds me of the L Word song of the day: "Angel With Attitude" by The Ditty Bops. The Ditty Bops are a couple in love who sing these tightly harmonized acoustic guitar songs that blow me away. They were featured on an episode in season 4 titled "Lacy Lilting Lyrics" (yes that was from memory, thank you very much). It was when i first heard them. Check it out.

i LOVE marina.

Back to the song. Here is the opening lyrics to "Angel with Attitude" which i love, because my favorite color is red. Ego maniacal, i know.

Contrary to popular opinion
The very best things in life are for free
Through a practice that I call donation
I get the things I want quite easily
I got a chip on my shoulder
And a halo on my head
I'm an angel with an attitude
And my favorite color's red
I got god on my side
Who's that? Hell, I don't know
But I practice my religion
While I'm stepping on your toes

Unnecessarily long song of the day: "All Around The World" by Oasis. The album version of this song is 9:20 in length. NOT OKAY. Not needed. We get it, spread the word around the world. Okay cool. I got the message after 3 minutes. Can we please be done? sigh. I hate the rules of the resolution, the ones that say i have to listen to each song in its entirety. Lame.

OH EM GEE! ITS BSB! award" "Shining Star" by Backstreet Boys. I got so effing excited during the first 5 seconds of this song and wanted to let out a girlish scream. I have no idea why. It was a strong sudden urge and i almost gave in. I think it has some subliminal shit going on in the back beats or something. Its crazy.

Great song to whistle song of the day: "Miss You" by The Rolling Stones.

Dance my ASS off award!!! "4 Minutes" by Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake. Am I the only one who wants these two to like, get married? Can you even imagine the wedding extravaganza? Not to mention how talented the children would be. Except like one of them, they would end up an accountant. The democratic science loving Mary Ann Seltzer, if you will (inside joke to PO grads, dont worry if you dont understand)

Perfect timing award: "Levon: by Elton John. So the last song of my playlist and im listening to it walking to Calculus. I turn it off right as class starts and jot down my fav lyrics from it:

Jesus blows up balloons all day
Sits on the porch swing watching them fly
And Jesus, he wants to go to Venus
Leaving Levon far behind
Take a balloon and go sailing
While Levon, Levon slowly dies

(Levon's kid is named Jesus, its not like, JESUS Jesus)

So i write this down and class starts. The first sample problem we do today? "We have some balloon that a kid let go, rising up at 5 ft/sec...." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! hahahah it was a rate of change problem using implicit differentiation, but balloon themed. I think i love life, i really think i do.

Completely random story that is unrelated to music, this blog, or anything anyone probably actually cares about time: So we used to have a server at our restaurant (the 1921 Restaurant in the historic Philips Hotel - come in and enjoy Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner 7 days a week!) (that was for you faith) (she is my boss) (anyway....) called Wanda. (does anyone remember the first part of that sentence before all the parenthesis?) (i didnt think so). She was (im out of control, ill stop now) really small in stature and we all kind of pointed it out, a lot. So one day we got a giant bag of panko bread crumbs from sysco. I noticed that the bag was about as big as Wanda, so i drew a stick figure caricature of her on in and titled it "Wanda 2." It had a little bowtie and everything. She cracked up and we all thought it was hilarious. So then the next bag got a stick figure once again with "Wanda 3" written in huge letters. This has continued to go one even though she doesnt work there anymore. We are currently on "Wanda 7" and should be onto "Wanda 8" shortly. Whenever anyone we need breadcrumbs we ask if somene will go get us some wanda, or say "i think i need some wanda" or "has anyone seen wanda 7?" hahaaahahah. Its why i love working in kitchens.

More to come tomorrow.

Just Got Paid - 'N Sync
Over The Hills And Far Away - Led Zeppelin
Daylight - Coldplay
The End Has No End - The Strokes
*Cupid's Chokehold - Gym Class Heroes

Badass baseline award: "Only In Dreams" by Weezer. This is a track where the lyrics fit perfectly with the instrumental elements and the delivery. I could listen to it all day:

You can't resist her.
She's in your bones.
She is your marrow
And your ride home.

You can't avoid her.
She's in the air... in the air
In between molecules of
Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide.

Only in dreams
We see what it means.
Reach out our hands.
Hold onto hers.
But when we wake
It's all been erased.
And so it seems
Only in dreams.

This is one i would download if you are into any mellow alt rock.

Absurd reference to dessert snacks award: "Camel Walk" by Southern Culture On the Skids. You guys know this one. Its the one thats like "Little Debbie, Little Debbie, you make me wanna walk..... like a camel." Remember this? yeah there you go. Btw, how fantastic of a band name is Southern Culture on the Skids? im so jealous i didnt come up with it.

Hidden Gem: "DLZ" by TV on the Radio. Another great mallo song. I always forget its name, which kind of isnt my fault I mean, its three letters that dont make sense to me. Lemme google it - DLZ is an acronym for "designated launch zong" or "Drop Landing Zone." Sooo it would apprear the song has some wartime themes. (duh). Okay good, question answered. Life can resume as usual.

I kinda dig it song of the day: "Maybe Angels" by Sheryl Crow. I kinda dig it.

Makes me wanna write lyrics and learn guitar song of the day: "The Woman In You" by Ben Harper. I dont listen to a lot of his stuff but hearing this song again makes me want more music by him,;

Some things never.., change
Some things never stay the same
But you're so
You're so innocent
I'll take all the blame
How I hate to remember
For that means the day..., is past
Sometimes I wonder if I know her
Or if I really need to ask
Or if I really need to ask

And that is just one verse. Listen to this one for sure.

Drunk on Scotch Tape award: "Somebody Knows You Now" by Brad Paisley. Once again, inside joke to mallo and schen. "You dont know me! You dont know my barn!" hahahahaha

I remember listening to this song in 6th grade, singing along like i knew what the hell i was talking about award" "Just Got PAid" by 'N Sync. I was a douchey kid. NOW, on the other hand, i feel like this song is something i can relate to a little more:

Check the mirror, lookin' fly
Round up the posse, jump in my ride
Radio rockin', hottest jam
Feel the rhythm, pump up the sound

Just got paid, Friday night
Party hoppin', feelin right
Booties shakin', all around
Pump that jam, while I'm gettin' down

hahahaha im sorry, im sorry, its just sometimes i cant even take myself seriously.

Led Zepplin is the shit. check out the guitar solos in "Over The Hills And Far Away." And sorry for the trippy video, sometimes these things just need to happen.

I wish this was the last song on my Blog Playlist: "The End Has No End" by The Strokes. Hearing this one sends me right back to mornings on the high school bus. Ahhhh memories.

Gold Star: "Cupid's Chokehold" by Gym Class Heroes. I was having a horrible day (and still kind of am), but this song got me to smile. It actually got me to break out a Cheshire cat grin and do my head bobbing, lip syncing while walking to class routine. It makes me think of Marcie and our V-days together (yes, i have actually celebrated the holiday, though i still hate it). Plus its just, like, SO super fun! (*she said in an overexaggerated but totally, like seriously-like enthusiastic valley girl voice). If you dont have this track, get it ASAP!

Day 48

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Okay, so as i was getting ready to the first few songs i noticed how the hits kept coming, back to back. No break from 4 or 5 star songs. It continued until i had to leave for class. Then i got in Edward (my car, not a person. Just clarifying...) and realized i still had the heart shaped balloon from the restaurant in the back seat. I drove off anyway, deciding it wouldnt be too distracting. It kind of took on its own personality in a few miles and was creeping up front to say hi to me. So i weighed down the string with my book bag and let it ride passenger side. After a while i was just cracking up at it, it seriously was acting so HUMAN. I may have talked to it a little... but dont worry, i was laughing at my ridiculous insanity the whole time. At one point i compared it to Wilson, which made it smile. Then another time i asked it if we could get through in a carpool lane and he liked the idea of trying. Um.... i think im mentally unsound. But its SO MUCH FUN being me sometimes that its okay. Hahahahaha oh buddy, my little balloon. Heres today's list:

I Told You I'm No Good - Amy Winehouse
*First Time - Lifehouse
I Move On - Catherine Zeta-Jones & Renée Zellwegger
*Is It Any Wonder? - Keane
*All of My Days - Alexi Murdoch
Casey Jones - Grateful Dead
Feel Good Time - Pink & William Orbit
Do You Know Me - John Mayer
*The World Has Turned And Left Me Here - Weezer
Goodbye To Romance - Ozzy Osbourne
Can't Buy Me Love - The Beatles
Give it to You - Eve ft. Sean Paul
Carrie - Europe
*Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson
Summer Of 69 - Bowling for Soup
Gunship Politico State Radio
*Downpour In Cairo - Bad Company
Still I Dig - Meghann Robinson
Shop Around - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
One Hand, One Heart - Tony & Maria
As I Lay Me Down - Sophie B. Hawkins
I Got You - Stone Temple Pilots
Time Has Come Today - The Chambers Bros.

Kickoff to the greatest Blog list streak to date award: "I Told You I'm No Good" by Amy Winehouse. Lauren played me my first Amy Winehouse song back in '06 (what the eff, thats 4 years ago??) before her big break into fame. It was this same song, and she said she loved how sexy it was. I still agree and remember that day. Today, This song has started what will become known as the Great Streak of February 2010. It is freaking me out with its back to back hits! Check out the next 5 consecutive songs:

- "First Time" by Lifehouse. A great love song to a new love interest or the Lord. I love dual meanings.

- "I Move On" by Catherine Zeta-Jones & Renée Zellwegger. A classic from one of my favorite broadway to movie adaptations

- "Is It Any Wonder?" by Keane. The theme song of my life early summer '07. It still hits me with a little bitter pang.

- "All of My Days" by Alexi Murdoch. An asheville classic, through and through. I cry tears of wonderment just hearing it.

- "Casey Jones" by Grateful Dead. My inner hippie SCREAMS with delight when the sound of a deep inhalation starts in the first seconds. AHHH! its casey jones! Fantastic

So you see, this is how my day started. Then the balloon festivities. Its the recipe for a stellar day :)

Hahahah inside joke award: "Do You Know Me" by John Mayer. This one is for Schen and Mallo. You dont know me! You dont know my well! hahaha oh D.O.S.T.... we would have been so youtube famous

WEEZER!!! song of the day: "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here" by Weezer. I was just telling a friend last night about my old love for old weezer. This song reminds me of why they spoke so strongly to me in my 7th and 8th grade hayday.

I talked for hours to your wallet photograph
And you just listened.
You laughed enchanted by my intellect
Or maybe you didn't.

See, Rivers is delusional like me! lol. Its just less lonely this way.

Classic Dad song of the day: "Can't Buy Me Love" by The Beatles. When my dad and i started to spend more time together (i was in high school around then) we realized how much we had in common musically. He had instilled a deep love for the Beatles in me when i was young young. We would always jam to them when we drove somewhere and it was just the two of us. He would sing the high harmony, i would belt out the lower harmony, and we would let the stereo take the melody. This one always sounded BOSS.

Audio Sex Award: "Give it to You" by Eve ft. Sean Paul. Its fun, its sexy, its dance-a-licious.

Cheesy 80's love ballad of the day: "Carrie" by Europe. This one kind of ruined the streak of AWESOME i was having, but i tried to get into it anyway

I read your mind, with no intentions
Of being unkind, I wish I could explain
It all takes time, a whole lot of patience
If it's a crime, how come I feel no pain.

Pretty deep for a cliche power ballad, right? I love pleasant surprises in my music.

And the streak RETURNS with "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson! Holy hell! (wait....) This stuff is crazy, im sooooo giddy over this list :)

Wake up slow... Mmmhmmm wake up slow

Cool cover of the day: "Summer Of 69" by Bowling for Soup. Its a cool cover.

Rediscovered Gem Award: "Downpour In Cairo" by Bad Company. I burned their greatest hits album to my iTunes in high school and went through a DEEP Bad Company phase. I dont listen to them much now, but this one used to be a favorite of mine. Its got a sick driving beat blended with awe striking finger picking. Download this one if you like anything similar to Dave Matthews Band, The Eagles, or John Butler Trip.

Take me inside, lay me now
I'll love you now and always
Give me a sign or let me go
Just don't leave me here in the rain
I said don't leave me here in the rain

Hidden Gem: "Still I Dig" by Meghann Robinson. You probably havent heard this song - i got it off her myspace music page. I dig it though. (get it? dig it? the songs called "still i dig," and i said dig in another context in reference to the song! .... lame....)

Wow, i really like this song award: "As I Lay Me Down" by Sophie B. Hawkins. I have found it beautiful enough (though cliche, but meh) to share the entire lyrics:

It felt like springtime on this February morning
In the courtyard birds were singing your praise
I'm still recalling things you said to make me feel alright
I carried them with me today, Now

As I lay me down to sleep
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name into the sky
And I will wake up happy

I wonder why I feel so high
Though I am not above the sorrow
Heavy hearted
Till you call my name
And it sounds like church bells
Or the whistle of a train
On a summer evening
I'll run to meet you
Barefoot barely breathing

As I lay me down to sleep
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name into the sky
And I will wake up happy

It's not too near for me
Like a flower I need the rain
Though it's not clear to me
Every season has its change
And I will see you
When the sun comes out again

As I lay me down to sleep
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name into the sky
And I will wake up happy
)

Day 47

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

White Trash Wedding - Dixie Chicks
The Laws Have Changed - The New Pornographers
A Bell Will Ring - Oasis
The Sky Is Broken - Moby
Harrigan - The White Stripes
No You Don't - Islands
Misery - The Beatles
Changes In Lattitudes - Jimmy Buffett
(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet-Blues Magoos - The Blues Magoos
Headlights - Dispatch
*Say So - Uh Huh Her
Red Light Fever - Liz Phair
Beautiful Queen - Namoli Brennet
A Bad Dream - Keane
That's So You - The Rocket Summer
Tap At My Window - Laura Marling
It's Only Me - Melissa Etheridge
Runaway - Del Shannon
Stephen, Stephen - The Decemberists
*The Same Boy You've Always Known - The White Stripes
Turn Into - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Sunshine Superman - Donovan
Gal Sun Ja - E=MC

Really Really REALLY close to Gold Star: "Say So" by Uh Huh Her. This is the band with Leisha Hailey of The L Word fame. She also is in some badass yogurt commercials hahah. But really, i love her and anything she touches (i wish i was in the second category....). Common Reaction is one of my newer favorite albums. I got into it over the summer, its great warm night driving music. This is my favorite song by them so far, i hope you like it too :)

how cute is she?!?! This is my ipod touch wallpaper. its true love.

Hidden Gem: "Red Light Fever" by Liz Phair. Im not an avid fan of hers, but i noticed these lines right away:

Scared the lights will turn green
You'll have to be seen
You'll be like anybody else
Scared the lights will turn red
You're stuck in your head
You can't run it to even her
How you gonna get through the year
You can't

It reminds me of me quite a bit. Especially the "stuck inside your head" part. Ew, too emotional touchy feely introspective for the public eye. Moving on....

Dramy late afternoon nap song of the day: "A Bad Dream" by Keane. It really seems like the perfect song to drift off to a heavy sleep to doesnt it?

Has anyone seen my skinny jeans? award: "That's So You" by The Rocket Summer. This song is so grossly emo 10th grader but I LOVE IT ANYWAY. I mean, like, just listen to it. How stupidly adorable and generic right? The Rocket Summer is a band i can only listen to in small doses when im feeling love drunk.

Big Pimping song of the day: "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan. This track cracks me up, its so badass. I love the term "Sunshine superman." Its cool in a hippie kind of way. (what can i say, once a hippie always a hippie)

Gold Star: "The Same Boy You've Always Known" by The White Stripes. You know, i feel bad for any song that has to go up against the White Stripes or John Mayer for song of the day. They pretty much dont stand a chance. How can any song from today compare to this jam?. I mean really. Check out this lyric:

I thought this is just today
and soon you'd been returning
the coldest blue ocean water
cannot stop my heart and mind
from burning

Jack White speaks to me in such an astounding way. A lot of his White Stripes stuff just gets me and then shouts it back at me so i can hear it as true. I love that.

Day 46

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Sooooo you will be happy to know im feeling MUCH better today. Sorry for all the insane bitterness the last 2 days... it was a weird trip into the dark side. I think im back now! Also it doesnt hurt that i have 364 days of bliss until the next valentines day (okay so maybe im still a little bitter....)

Also, i finished this blog and when i posted it something went wrong. Meaning i have to redo the whole thing? not gonna happen. I hate repeating myself lol. So its gonna be short and sweet.

December 4th - Jay-Z
Connjur - School Of Seven Bells
Postcards - An Horse
The Dream of Evan + Chan - The Postal Service
Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? - Rod Stewart

Gold Star:"1979" by Smashing Pumpkins. Its one of those ones you might not know at the title alone, but would know if you heard it. I never really paid attention to the lyrics. This section jumped out at me:

Double cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in store
Morphine city slipping dues down to see
That we don't even care as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement, lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go, beneath the sound of hope

Sexy Award: "Come On Closer" by Jem. Here is yet another amazing song from a Mallo Mix :) Download this one for sure (right click and chose "save target as" or "download linked file"). You know, i like it so much that im posting the entire lyrics:

Come on closer
I wanna show you
What I'd like to do
You sit back now
Just relax now
I'll take care of you

Hot temptations
Sweet sensations
Infiltrating through
Sweet sensations
Hot temptations
Coming over you

Gonna take it slow babe
Do it my way
Keep your eyes on me
Your reaction
To my action
Is what I want to see

Rhythmic motion
Raw emotion
Infiltrating through
Sweet sensations
Hot temptations
Coming over you

And now you're satisfied
A twinkle in your eye
Go to sleep for ten
And anticipating
I will be waiting
For you to wake again

Hot temptations
Sweet sensations
Infiltrating through
Sweet sensations
Hot temptations
Coming over you

[When you wake up we'll
do it all again]
[When you wake up]
[When you wake up we'll
do it all again]
[When you wake up]

Hour after hour
of sweet pleasure
After this I guarantee
you'll never wanna leave
Shut your eyes and think about
what I'm about to do
Sit back relax I'll take my time
this lovin's all for you

Told you it was sexy ;)

My life's theme song of the day: "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" by Rod Stewart. Hahahahahha. im kind of serious though...

Sorry for the shortness. Life Happens.
