by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

The playlist looks pretty heavy on the rock side... i can total handle that :) Also, did you guys know that while i listen to the list each day i rate the songs on my itunes? its part of the idea of the blog. By the time i finish this year all of my songs will have ratings from 1 star to 5. i feel really good about it, i think it will help with making playlists and mix CDs and stuff. Anyway....

Hidden Gem: "Halcyon Daze" by Hidden in Plain View. This one is about a girl who is partying away while the guy suffers unrequited emotions. I love it cuz it talks about tequila shots and licking salt off of each other. haha isnt that just wonderful? But really, this is a well done tune. Good job guys - listen to it here. OH and when they sing "Allentown", they are actually talking about Allentown PA. Pennsylvania pride!

Way to get to the point award: "Why Don't We Get Drunk" by Jimmy Buffett. The first two lines of the chorus?

Why don't we get drunk and screw
I just bought a water bed, it's filled up for me and you

he is pretty smooth isnt he? Imma try that line sometime... ill let you know how it goes.

Cover of the day: "Breathe" by Smartbomb. I got this track from my dear sister schen=lah. She had to sing Faith Hill's "Breathe" in chorus one year and found this track to help her deal with the pain of country all the time. I love it to death! its so fun and has great punk harmonies. total 5 star track :)

Thats a download link right there, btw. if you didnt know. do the save target as thing.... we really have been over this like 14 times before

Gold Star: "Ocean Avenue" by Yellowcard. This song is so 17 year old angst and I LOVE IT! It is one of my favorite "turn the stereo all the way up while speeding on back country roads and shouting at the top of your lungs to the point where you cant breathe" songs. (totally safely though mom, im always safe....). Yellowcard understands their target audience and writes to them simply but universally. Who doesnt identify with this song in some way? It takes me back to that last year of high school, being on the brink of everything while feeling stuck standing still. Like you were about to crest a hill and couldnt wait to see the other side, but never realized how beautiful the journey was. (dudes who am i kidding, the journey SUCKED. it was painful and too real and too much to handle... eff that.... no more high school nostalgia for me tonight!)

If I could find you now,
Things would get better.
We could leave this town,
And run forever
I know somewhere, somehow, we'll be together
Let your waves crash down on me,
And take me away, yeah.

Hahahah okay, this is great song of the day: "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" by George Thorogood. I was cracking up the entire 8 and a half minutes that this song was playing. George tells this story about not making rent week after week and then going drinking. It doesnt sound like much, but the way he sings it is priceless. He is so FUNNY with it. Its hard to explain. This is the guy who did "Bad to the Bone" (for those of you who didnt know that....*losers* *cough* *cough*). I noticed once that his style resembled Jack White, but this track shows off the similarities. If you feel like a trip, take a listen. hahahaha oh George... youre too much.

Okay so wait... thats three alcohol themed songs today? Wow. anyone seeing a theme?

Anthem for people who suffer from SAD song of the day: "If Things Were Perfect" by Moby. It deals with themes of winter, darkness, and the cold. Lots of metaphors here if you are looking. Some of the illustrative ideas are things ive been playing around with lately. The whole album is great.

come clean, there's no sun yet
the only lights here are made
i can't speak, i can't hear, but i know i'm real
there's no warm here anyway
the darkest lights before the dawn
you remember the sun but it sank
in the water that eats the light
wrapped in cold, late at night

give me summer
give me summer

More to come tomorrow.
