Busted - The Black Keys
So Beautiful - Pete Murray

Gold Star: "The Taste of Ink" by The Used. Hands effing DOWN. i love this song. I guess they wrote it about when they were struggling to get their big break. My favorite part?

In this sea of lonely
The taste of ink is getting old
It's FOUR O'CLOCK IN THE FUCKING MORNING
Each day gets more and more like the last day

Im a sucker for well placed F bomb.

Not so subtle euphemism award: "Sweet Jane" Lou Reed. This is a live version and i dig it as much as the original. It paints a great picture of a world swirling in smog inactivity.

Oh, all the poets they studied rules of verse
And those ladies, they rolled their eyes

That verse is for someone in particular - i think you know who you are. txt me about it when you read this so i know you are still stalking me. I just like to double check these things (im so secretive right?)

Kind of Hidden Gem: "I Only Have Eyes For You" by Ella Fitzgerald. I didnt appreciate this song as much as i did today... i guess i heard it with new ears.

Judging a book by its cover award: "Teenage Love" by Magic Wands. Doesnt that title just make you want to like the song? i mean seriously, it looks like its going to be great right? it wasnt that fun but whatevs. Im okay with it.

HAHAHAHAHA wow, that reminds me of last night award: "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys. Sooooo im PRETTY sure that C.C. (aka Mama Celeste) and i were singing this song last night. A cappella. In harmony. hahah we kind of had a mini concert.... it was amazing. This one sounded really good (according to us that is, but the factuality of this is debatable). Freaking memorible man.

Kill Me Now song of the day: "Powderfinger" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse. This was so painful to sit through. Why do they have to make horrible songs that are over 6 minutes long? its just inhumane. Im over it. This stupid song reminds me of a Jimmy Fallon parody that changed my life it was so great. Here it is, for your viewing pleasure:

That kind of makes me feel better about the last 6 minutes of my life.

Beautiful Song of the day: "So Beautiful" by Pete Murray. For anyone who likes Howie Day i recommend trying out Pete Murray. He does a lot of the same acoustic guitar with emo lyrics kind of stuff. Download this one here.

God my fingers burn,
Now when I think of touching your hair

I told you, totaly emo lyrics. I still love it though.

Well, thats all folks! More to come tomorrow.

Day 30

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

WOW. Look over this list and tell me if you agree - one of the best lists ever! I feel like fate knew i was getting some shitty hands yesterday and decided to fix it. MAN. How am i gonna pick a Gold Star? this is a tough one, here we go:

I Can't Dance - Genesis
Here's Where the Story Ends - The Sundays
*Out Of My Head - Fastball
Daniella - John Butler Trio
Pressure - Paramore
Voices of Violence - Billy Talent
I Feel Fine - The Beatles
Love Is The End - Keane
*Crazy Times - Jars Of Clay
Rockin' In The Free World - Neil Young
Let It Be - The Beatles
*Sex and Candy - Marcy Playground
Mayonaise - Smashing Pumpkins
*Mud On The Tires - Brad Paisley
*The Kill - 30 Seconds To Mars
Keep Faith - Matt Wertz
3 - Britney Spears
Wait - The Beatles
Stellar - Incubus
Life Is - Keller Williams
She Drives Me Crazy - Fine Young Cannibals
War Of My Life - John Mayer
*Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin
*Cannonball Damien Rice

Wildcat awrad: "I Cant Dance" by Genesis. Question: what do Phil Collins and Chad Danforth have in common? ANSWER. (im so embarrassed to be me sometimes, i really am)

I really want to make sure eveyone knows the song "Here's Where the Story Ends" by The Sundays. Anyone who has had a relationship can relate to the lyrics, and its a more than decent jam as far as music goes. Download it if you love the 90's or have ever enjoyed a Meg Ryan movie.

Gold Star: "Sex and Candy" by Marcy Playground. The other tunes put up a great fight, but DAMN this song is good! I will never be able to deny its magic. Who cant identify with wanting a woman "like disco lemonade?" (aside from those out there who arent into women... you can probably not identify... but besides this small majority...). Want a t-shirt to visually express your craving for such a woman?

Available here! (i fucking love the Internet, i find the craziest shit)

Tip of my cowboy hat to you song of the day: "Mud On The Tires" by Brad Paisley. I love it! i may be a badass and so hardcore, but even i need to indulge my cliche sensitive country lovin "lets get drunk in the woods" side now and then.

We can throw a blanket down, crickets singing in the background
And more stars than you can count on a night this clear
Tell ya what we need to do, grab a sleepin' bag or two
And build us a little campfire
Then with a little luck, we might just get stuck
Lets get a little mud on the tires

Everytime i hear "The Kill" by 30 Seconds to Mars i want to listen to the acoustic version. Its got a different flavor to it, it makes it a completely different song. here's the youtube vid. God i love Jared Leto.

Jars of Awesome award: "Crazy Times" by Jars Of Clay. This is one of my tops from them i have to say. And i have had a lot of exposure to Jars of Clay VIA schen-lah. Ive even seen them live multiple times. I think you guys will like it a lot. This is a live version but still great.

My apologies award: "She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals. I became a little addicted to this song over the summer for reasons unknown to ANYONE. I may or may not have played it a million times at work.... all the time. So for that i would like to say im sorry to anyone who was working at the time. It couldn't have been easy. On a more fun note, i know i linked to this video a couple weeks ago but im posting it again. Enjoy:

"And the Tony award goes to...." award: "War Of My Life" by John Mayer. John, why you gotta be so dramatic? i mean seriously dude, its not that big a deal. Its life. like just embrace it or get the fuck out.

Almost Gold Star: "Stairway To Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. While searching for good quality audio of this on youtube, i found some interesting things. This video will probably make your life a little brighter. It is another reason i still have faith in humanity.

Have a great saturday night everyone!

More to come tomorrow.

Day 29

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Today was a weird list, not a ton of hits. Im getting behind a ltitle in my posting, its worrying me. I gotta stay on my shit! here's todays list:

*With A Little Help From My Friends - The Beatles
Squirrels In My Pants - Phineas and Ferb
*Look What You've Done - JET
My Year in Lists - Los Campesinos!
Buttons - Pussycat Dolls
Quintet - The Jets,The Sharks
Windy - The Association
Rescue - Eve 6
Junk - The Beatles
Momma, Momma - Melanie
Catch Hell Blues - The White Stripes
Careful - Guster
Make Up - Elefant
Shady Grove - Mudcrutch
Valeti Boliyan - A S Kang
W*O*L*D - Harry Chapin
Secret Agent - Melissa Etheridge
Think About Me - Sister Hazel
Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
What Child Is This? [Live] - Vanessa Williams
*Misfit - Elefant
So Long - Goo Goo Dolls
Black Dog - Led Zeppelin
Something There - Kristen Fink, Mike Smolko, and Cast

Great sad piano song of the day: "Look What You've Done" by JET. It has simple lyrics but is worth a download i think. (right click and chose "save target as" or "download linked file"... its safe... weve been over this....). If you ever need a crying song, this is useful to have in your library. It was also featured in A Lot Like Love, one of the bestest movies of all time ever ever! (sorry, im still a 13 year old sometimes). But really, bestest movie ever. Just ask Marcie.

Hidden Gem:" Junk" by The Beatles. This is a track off of The Anthology (Disc 3), which i borrowed from my dad. I havent heard this one before but i found it peaceful in that nap-in-the-late-afternoon kind of way. The guitar is beautiful, im so happy this was on the list today, and that i was paying attention enough to really hear it.

Solid Jam of the Day: "Careful" by Guster. I feel like i need to tell my short little "guster story." I find it hilarious but it may be stupid. You let me know. Soooo i had this red mixed CD with "guster compilation" written on it. One day i was talking to mallo and referenced said mix CD. She responded that she never really listened to much Guster. Now, i was instantly confused, because i had just assumed that the CD came from her after about a year or two of having it. I told her "no, no you have over 20 Guster songs, how else would you have burned me a CD?" She really insisted she never made me a CD with guster so i checked the handwriting again. Not her. I started worrying, wondering where the hell my CD came from. I asked my sister, my other friends, anyone i could ask. Nothing. Now i was just confused and thinking that this CD was sent from hell to inflict torture upon the unaware owner/listener. About a year later i saw that my friend/alternate dimension sister Jillian had posted a Guster lyric as her Facebook status. OH MY GOD. CLICK. recognition. I instantly txted her asking about Guster and she said "of course, i burnt that for you a couple years ago when you guys stayed with us in CT." Of course. OF COURSE! magic! enlightenment! the curse lifted! i was so happy, no longer a crazy owner of a hell-sent CD. I think of the story anytime Guster comes on. So thats the Guster story. Youre welcome.

Gold Star- *Misfit" by Elefant. At that first twangy guitar riff i get SO EXCITED! This is the gold star hands down. It has summer crush written all over it. By the time the chorus plays im imagining driving a girl home late on a summr evening after a day of random adventures, the smells mixing somewhere between sun tanning skin, sugary soda-pop, and a dusty front dashboard. Download it and tell me if you can see the pink and orange sky fading under an onslaught of deep midnight blue. This line right here is my favorite, it always inspires me to remember the artistic spontenaity of life:

Picked a girl up at the trainstop where I live
Took a drive along the beach by the ocean
Talk about the dreams we had while we were growing old
Wrote a poem on the back of your shoulder

Jamming with the KStorm award: "Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin. There are some great lines throughout this song, one of my favs is below:

Didn't take too long before I found out
What people mean by down and out.

I always feel really sexy when i sing this one (more so than usual, if you can believe it). I mean, like, come on. Have you listened to the lyrics? DAMN. Good job Plant, good job Jones.

What did i just say yesterday?!? award: "Something There" by Kristen Fink, Mike Smolko, and Cast. I mean really, this is weird. I just talked about how these songs are going to come up. Can i explain how disturbing it is to hear yourself speaking and singing in a British accent? I still remember all the lines and notes. How is that possible? Ah the magic of theatre.

More to come tomorrow.

Macy's Day Parade - Green Day
Wendy Clear - Blink-182
Didi (My Doe, Part 2) - The Matches
Trouble In Here - Howie Day

Suffragette City - David Bowie
Sin - Stone Temple Pilots
This Boy - Franz Ferdinand
*Play The Game - Queen
*We're Going To Be Friends - The White Stripes
Prizefighter - Bush
*Same - Snow Patrol

I cant wait for the new season of Glee award: "Maybe This Time" by Glee Cast. This was a great diva off, especially in the context of the episode. I have SUCH a boner for Lea Michele, OH MY GOD. When she sings i lose it, I love you Rachel from Glee. Im coming over in a few minutes, we are TOTALLY gonna run away together and get fake married (cuz out love is less valuable than hetero love. duh. its like, the law)

So far the first half of songs has kind of sucked, minus FEW exceptions. WTF fate?

Teapot Got Back award: "If I Can't Love Her" by Mike Smolko. Hahahah sooooo this is definitely from The Philipsburg-Osceola High School production of Beauty and the Beast. My dad recorded it on video during the parent's night performance, then uploaded the tracks as mp3's. For some reason they got put on my computer. Like, the WHOLE show. Soooo look forward to more of these songs popping up, i know i cant wait hahaah. Oh well, its some sweet memories (kind of).

Sweet sunrise kind of song of the day: "We're Going To Be Friend" by The White Stripes. This one is a favorite that i find i can never skip once it starts. I think its the guitar, the little chords and deep reverb. Plus it tells a relatable story through the bright eyes of innocence.

we don't notice any time pass
we don't notice anything

Like i said, relatable.

Cant help but smile award: "Play The Game" by Queen. This was a welcome releif from some of the tragic tunes today. I love Queen, i even saw a badass Queen tribute band once. They were the closest thing i can imagine to the real deal, and they were wonderful. I love singing along to this one! Its a good shower song. If youre geeky enough to sing in the shower that is.... anyway.....

Gold Star: "Same" by Snow Patrol. Download it, Listen to it. You may lose your breath for a moment. You may close your eyes against your will. You may have to cry. It is just that good.

Maybe somewhere else
Will not be half as cold as me

More to come tomorrow.

Day 27

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

After yesterday's playlist i was thinking about "Carry That Weight" by the Beatles. So this morning i decided to jam out to Abbey Road on the drive to class. Um, it was basically magical. I started at "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" so i could make it to the end. By the time "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" played i was BLASTING it and screaming at the top of my lungs. It set me up for a great day, im pretty sure. And looking at the playlist for today i know im in for some good tunes. check it out:

Bail Me Out - Pete Murray
This Protector - The White Stripes
Let Me Go - Melissa Etheridge
Good Love Is On The Way - John Mayer
9.95 - Spunkadelic
Carolina on My Mind - Melanie
*Picture - Kid Rock feat. Sheryl Crow
Leftover Wine - Melanie
Scenes From An Italian Restaurant - Billy Joel
*Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright
Fall Behind Me - The Donnas
The Jean Genie - David Bowie
Lonely People - Jars Of Clay
Loser - 3 Doors Down
Hey Girl - The Delays
Sister Morphine - The Rolling Stones
Who Will I Be - Mitchie
*Do You Remember - Jack Johnson
Out In The Country - Three Dog Night
*Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt.1 - The Flaming Lips
The Survey: Gay? Straight? - Kathy Griffin
Smash - The Murmurs
Oasis - Amanda Palmer

Hidden Gem: "Bail Me Out" by Pete Murray. Its very Ian to me, AKA Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, John Butler Trio-esc. If you like hoarding loads of chill acoustic songs on your itunes, this is a good one to have.

Cliche Melissa Etheridge Song of the Day: "Let Me Go" by Melissa Etheridge. Sometimes it feels like she has a song on my playlist every day. I was resistant to this track (as i always am with her... i just hate the stereotypical factor i guess) but then i looked up the lyrics. UM. um wow. its something i really can get down with. Very poetic, honest, and relatable (for me anyway, especially this last week...)

Am I the snake inside your garden
The sugar in your tea
The knock upon your back door
The twist that turns your key
Am I the sweat you feel on your head
The shadow on your face
The tune inside your head that put you here in the first place
Well I don't want to be
I don't want to be
I don't want to be your sweet temptation
I don't want to be your new sensation
It's just a delicate distraction
With just a hint of satisfaction
Look me in the eye and let me know
If you can't love me that let me go
Let me go
Let me go

(fed up dirty mistresss of the world UNITE! new theme song!)

TMNT soundtrack award: "9.95" by Spunkadelic. Apparently this was on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie soundtrack? it sounds like a paula abdul song.... i secretly didnt mind it.

bittersweet memories award: "Carolina on My Mind" by Melanie. I was really into the James Taylor version of this song at the end of summer 07. It takes me right back there - music seems to have some of the purest power of transportation. I think ill listen to this one one more time.

Top 100 award: "Picture" by Kid Rock feat. Sheryl Crow. When i ranked my top 200 songs of all time last year (i seriously love music and spend a LOT of time on stupid shit like that list... or this blog...) this song came out at 84. Im gonna rerank the list this year and try to include new favorites. I actually have an idea for a blog about it..... (teaser? you bet).

Okay, i love Melanie for her craziness and all, but two songs of her's in one day is a little much. And its "Leftover Wine," of all things. Its just too much.

Bad ass rocker chicks song of the day: "Fall Behind Me" by The Donnas. I really liked this album when i saw them live (Gold Medal, 2004). But then i lost it and only have a few songs on my library still. hold that thought... (insert jeapordy music here) okay cool, i just downloaded it in a torrent. Problem solved. anyway, its a fun song, good for driving like a maniac and pretending to be tough stuff (two of my fav activities)

(sweet album cover right?)

Gold Star: "Hallelujah" by Rufus Wainwright. Was there any doubt? Heres the download link if you dont have it, its a must have for any library. This is one that can drown you in heartache, but sometimes that is exactly what a hurting heart needs. It makes the eventual oxygen even sweeter.

dont be too excited by the title award: "The Survey: Gay? Straight?" by Kathy Griffin. Its just an audio track from her comedy album of her asking the audience to yell if they are gay, then female, then straight male. See, not as fun as it sounds lol.

Rediscovered Gem: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt.1 - The Flaming Lips. Its kind of amazing. Like BEYOND. try it out.

funny shit song of the day: "Oasis" by Amanda Palmer. DUDES. this is one you should definately listen to, it is hilarious. The video is fun too. If you are easily offended then you MAY want to skip it. But then, if you are one of those people i dont know why you read this blog. hmmm.

More to come tomorrow.

Billo Tere Nakreh - Labh Janjua (Tigerstyle Mix) - Northern Lights
Hot Blooded - Foreigner

Lifted - Lighthouse Family
Stones In My Passway - The White Stripes
Welcome to the 60's - Nikki Blonsky & John Travolta
Genius - The Murmurs
Sponge - Molly

Imagine Me and You award: "Happy Together" by The Turtles. This will forever remind me of one of my favorite movies, Imagine Me and You, Its a great lady love romantic conmedy. I <3 Luce foreva.

Gold Star: *Heartache Tonight by The Eagles. This was one of my getting ready to go out songs when i was in culinary school.

Somebody's gonna hurt someone
Before the night is through
Somebody's gonna come undone.
There's nothin' we can do.
Everybody wants to touch somebody
If it takes all night.
Everybody wants to take a little chance,
Make it come out right.

There's gonna be a heartache tonight,
A heartache tonight, I know.
There's gonna be a heartache tonight, I know.
Lord, I know.

Sooo Abbey Road is a masterpiece, we all know that. "Carry That Weight" by The Beatles is truely remarkable. This might be tied for gold star, but this is only 90 seconds of what feels like a longer song. Without at least "Golden Slumbers" before it, the song feels empty. Most of the second side of Abbey Road is a continous album, like Dark Side of the Moon. Its basically 16 minutes of nonstop AWESOME. Oh well.

ooohhhh, THAT song song of the day: "Sponge" by Molly. This is one from the 90's that if you hear it, you remember it. Its the "dont ask why... dont ask why" one. still dont remember? take a listen. (as yje crowd goes OOOHHHH, that one!)

More to come tomorrow.

Day 25

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Day 25!!! Wow, its going well so far i have to say. I knew i would stick with it - im a little on the stubborn side haha. I cant believe its been almost 600 songs! cool. this is fun. Thanks to those who read it, it means a lot. I hope you have found some cool songs through this! okay cool, heres todays list. its a good one :)

Even Angels Fall - Jessica Riddle
Back For Good - Take That
Lucy - Hanson
Naina - Lil Sach
Proud Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Flipper - Television's Greatest Hits V1
Any Colour You Like - Pink Floyd
Nasha Jawani Da - Ryan Singh
Pig - Dave Matthews Band
Cross My Heart - The Rocket Summer
Shape I'm In - The Band
With Me - Lonestar
*Here We Go Again (acoustic) - Paramore
Heart Of The Sunrise - Yes
*Oh Lately It's So Quiet - OK Go
Always Know Where You Are - BBMak
Bron-Y-Aur Stomp - Led Zeppelin
*Only The Good Die Young - Billy Joel
Supposed to Be - Jack Johnson
Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured - Arctic Monkeys
I Guess You're Right - The Posies
Bye Bye Bye - 'N Sync
Gravity - Josh Turner
Exquisite - Tyga Ft Lil Wayne & Gata

Catchy and easy award: "Even Angels Fall" bu Jessica Riddle. I got this off of the 10 Things I Hate About You soundtrack. Its worth a listen, it has some fun lines and is applicable to a lot of kinds of days/moods.

OMG do you remember this song? song of the day: "Back For Good" by Take That. Hahaha such a classic, listen for free here. your welcome. Summary of the song? The guy doesnt know why the girl is mad, doesnt know what he did, but wants sex so sings that he is sorry for whatever it was, she was right, he is an idiot, lets have sex, Basically.

Glee award: "Proud Mary" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Now, i am a fan of Glee, but im a little mad that its what comes to mind at first when i hear this song. All i see are teenagers dancing in wheelchairs. But once i push past that im happy. I have this vivid memory of this song from a night in Punxsy. Taylor and I went to our friend's apartment downtown with some guys for a little party. It was a blast, lots of pong and good conversation. We were DJing VIA youtube, and i remember playing this song for everyone. We jammed to CCR for a while after. It was the kind of moment that breathes youth.

Big Tuna Award: "Flipper Theme Song" by Television's Greatest Hits. How deliciously random is this? Did you know "Flipper died a natural death he caught a nasty virus"? Name the source of this lyrics for 3 points!!

STUDS.

Fun in the sun country jam award: "With Me" by Lonestar. I have a soft spot for country music, much to my father and sister's disappointment, I blame Luke, my 9th grade BF, and all his alan jackson! This song is sweet, i never listened to the words much before

You are a lazy summer day on a porch swing
You are a night running wild on the town
My red Ferrari racing me down a back street
My pick-me-up when I'm a little bit down
No matter where I go, whatever dice I roll
Baby, this I know

When you're with me
I feel like singing
It's like I'm swinging the whole planet on the end of my chain
Oh, when you kiss me
My head starts spinnin'
It's like you're sending the adrenaline
Straight to my brain
And it feels right as rain
All my worries wash away
When you're with me

Cheesy? yes. Cliche? yes. Do i care? no. Still totally love it :)

Its always disorienting when a song plays from Dark Side of the Moon, because the album doesnt really have breaks. Yes, they broke it into tracks, but i feel like you cant listen to it as anything but a whole. It flows continuously, so when "Any Colour You Like" ended i got confused. Where is "Brain Damage"? confusing.

Are we there yet? award::"Heart Of The Sunrise" by Yes. Seriously guys, 11 minutes is overkill. sigh. I dont think i like Yes very much.

Hidden Gem: "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" by Led Zeppelin. I havent really given this a listen before today but dig it. My friend Jillian says The White Stripes remind her of Led Zeppelin sometimes, and with this track i can definitely hear it. This song isnt to be confused with "Bron-Yr-Aur", another great track. It turns out they both are Welsh for "hill of the gold". Nice random bit of rock trivia right? Check it out. (right click and press "save target as" to download)

Ripped from a youtube video song of the day: "Here We Go Again (acoustic)" by Paramore. My sister has a program that can record audio from any site/video/whatever. She hooks me up with tracks when i make special requests. (like my live version of The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars, and my badass live duet of Thunder Road with Bruce Springsteen and Melissa Etheridge). Im glad she did this one for me, it is softer than the album version. Love it.

Gold Star: "Only The Good Die Young" - Billy Joel. DUH.

Cool song of the day: "I Guess You're Right" The Posies. If you like the grungier 90s alt rock you would probably dig this. It exudes a Bush, Stone Temple Pilots, Collective Soul kind of vibe.

Silver Star:"Oh Lately It's So Quiet" - OK Go. DOWNLOAD THIS. you will love it, trust me.

Whose house, are you haunting tonight?
Aw, Whose sheets you twist?
Aw. Whose face you kiss?
Whose house, are you haunting tonight?

More to come tomorrow.

Skinny Dippin Girl - Joe Purdy
Kill The Lights - Britney Spears
The Kiss - Karmina
Luna - Smashing Pumpkins
Cold Contagious - Bush
Like Knives - City & Colour
*Take It To The Limit - The Eagles

In My Place - Coldplay
Jesus, Take The Wheel - Carrie Underwood
Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution- The Black Crowes
Hypnotized - Ani Difranco
As Hard As It Is - Fine Young Cannibals
Lightning Crashes - Pennharmonics

Erica's new anthem award: "Skinny Dippin Girl" by Joe Purdy. Be sure to listen to it on youtube. The acoustic guitar reminds me a little of a toned down jack johnson, but Joe's voice is more like the guy from "Once." In any case, my love of nudity finally has a theme song.

I've been watchin steady
and i've been watchin you watchin me
Think that sunrise gonna turn our blue eyes green
So you jump in the river,
you invite me to take a swim
I like to notice that nothin wet and red,
nothin except your sun kissed skin
Believe i'll jump right in
Believe i'll jump right in

No matter what i tell myself about "next time" or "this time"; no matter how loudly i invoke the law of logic; no matter how many times i chant "take it slow, take it slow"; deep down i know that i will always, ALWAYS jump right in.

Fuck you Paparazzi song of the day: "Kill The Lights" by Britney Spears. I bought her album Circus the day it was released last last year ( i love her) but havent listened to it all that much. I mean, her music isnt really the kind you brush your teeth to you know? but this one is fun, very clever and catchy. Good job girl, you have found a way to be crazy and succesful (Paula Jr. anyone?)

"The Kiss" by Karmina is a generic soft rock pop song, but its nice for what it is. i wont really listen to it much after this but if it comes on during shuffle i might jam out.

Sickningly sweet in its depression award: "Like Knives" by City & Colour. All of this guy's songs make me want to lay down and cry until i die. its awesome hahahah. but really, most of his stuff is depressing but beautiful.

Perfect timing award: "Take It To The Limit" by The Eagles. As i was doing my calculus homework this song started playing. It wasnt until 3 minutes in that i realized i was finding limits if functions over and over again while Randy Meisner sang "take it to the limit one more time." I couldnt breathe i was laughing so hard, and i couldnt stop until the magical track was over. hahahhahahahah its the little things sometimes. Now im going to get this song stuck in my head everytime i have class. Its like high school physics and John Mayer's "Gravity" all over again....

Good idea at the time award: "Lightning Crashes" by Pennharmonics. Soooo i saw this a capella choir on campus called Pennharmonics. They did a lot of beat boxing and covered modern songs. The day i saw them they sang about 4 songs from Glee. They were giving out free CDs so of course i grabbed one and uploaded it. Um.... its kind of whack. I mean they are talented and great performers, but some of the songs they chose to do on the album? "They Way" by Fastball, "Jumpin Jumpin" by Destiny's Child, "Inside Out" by Eve 6? Keep your eyes out for them throughout the blog, i have about 15 or 16 more of thier HITS coming your way.

Thats it. More to come tomorrow.

Day 23

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Don't Worry Baby - The Everly Brothers
Perfection Through Silence - Finch
*Spelling - Katt Williams
Make Yourself - Incubus
I've Got A Feeling - The Beatles
*A Penny in the Slot - Fionn Regan
Sad Eyes - Enrique Iglesias
Easier To Be - Lifehouse
These Days Mean Nothing to Me - The High Dials
Jailhouse Rock - Elvis Presley
Ain't That Unusual - Goo Goo Dolls
I Love the Rain Most When It Stops Joe Purdy
Numbness For Sound - Howie Day
*Breakfast at Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something
Tequila Loves Me - Kenny Chesney
Caress Me Down - Sublime
Any Time At All - The Beatles
Sailing - Rod Stewart
Stronger - Britney Spears
Tell It Like It Is - Heart
If You See Jordan - Something Corporate
Level - The Raconteurs
The Small Print - Muse

First song of the day: I had this Everly Brothers phase in 7th grade and as a result have 50 of thier songs on my itunes. This is a cover of The Beach Boys song "Don't Worry Baby." Definately a good time.

Funniest shit ive ever heard award: "Spelling" by Katt Williams. Its from his comedy album, Ian totally gave me some of his stuff and i lose it every time they come on. Hahahaha this is epic, please enjoy the listen.

Underappreciated Beatles song of the day: "I've Got A Feeling" by The Beatles. This one is actually a mix of two songs they were working on; McCartneys "Ive got a feeling" about knowing he should be with Linda Eastman, and Lennon's "Everyone had a hard year" about his divorce, yoko's miscarraige, and his drug arrest. Thats some wonderful british juxstaposition.

Gold Star: "A Penny in the Slot" by Fionn Regan. Dubs played this for me on our commute to punxsy one morning back in culinary school days. It might have changed my life. You should download this one for sure, its worth the hassle.

Look out the window in a slow moving car drive while its raining and think deeply about life award: "Easier To Be" by Lifehouse. Love it.

Sexy song of the day: "Jailhouse Rock" by Elvis Presley. This guy is seriously hot, i am investing in a time machine. mmmmm... young elvis....

Silver Star: "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something. You have to appreciate a song that is essentially about nothing. The song in a nutshell? "Girl wants to break up, Boy is trying to find something that they can grow on, boy tries to convince girl to stay based on the fact that they both kind of liked a movie." I <3 the 90's.

"If You See Jordan" by Something Corporate is fun because its obvious the lead singer hates a guy named Jordan. So he wrote a song about it.

Fuck you Jordan (fuck you Jordan)
You make me sick (you makes me sick)
High school's over (high school's over)
I don't care if you dye your hair
you'll always be a little red haired bitch

hahah this is why people should be nice to talented people. You never know who is gonna be famous someday. hint hint.

More to come tomorrow.

Day 22

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

I GOT A NEW CAR! well, its a new used car. but new to me! its a 2004 mitsubishi eclipse, "titanium pearl" aka dark grey. 55,000 miles for 6,490 or something. it was a good deal and its SO CUTE! im happy about it. i named him Edward. Shhhh.... heres the playlist:

*Daydream Believer - The Monkees
*Fairytale - Sara Barielles
I Don't Need No Doctor - John Mayer
Business As Usual - The Eagles
Desire - Raina Rose
Roxanne - The Police
*From The Beginning - Emerson, Lake & Palmer
He's So Fine - The Chiffons
Call It A Ritual - Wolf Parade
My Skin - Natalie Merchant
Shake (Remix 2) - Dr Zeus
Hey Jude - Joe Anderson
Come Out of the Shade - The Perishers
Stop the Fucking Car - Circa Survive
*Single Fins & Safety Pins - Japanese Motors
Je Jatt Bigr Gaya - Lembher Hussianpuri Dr Zeus
Suspicious Minds - Fine Young Cannibals
Love Me Do - The Beatles
The Longest Road (Deadmau5 Remix) - Morgan Page
Kuriay Kuriay - E=MC
Hamburg Song - Keane
*Say It Right - Nelly Furtado
Madeline - Hanson

So when i copy over the playlist each day i actually do pay attention to which song will start the next day. Thats how i decide whether to listen to 22, 23, or 24 songs. I pick the number that will give me the best "kick off" song for the following day. This is why i keep having AMAZING first songs, like todays.

Wake up and smell the AWESOME award: Daydream Believer" by The Monkees. Anybody out there wanna be my homecoming queen?

New appreciation song of the day: "Fairytale" by Sara Barielles. This is a wonderful song to throw in the face of anyone who believes in fairytale romance. Dubs gave it to me a couple years ago, but i heard it today with new ears. This one goes out to all you twilight fans out there:

So I sing, I hold my head down
And I break these walls 'round me
Can't take no more of your fairytale love

I don't care for your fairytales
You're so worried 'bout the maiden
Though you know she's only waiting
On the next best thing

Gold Star: "Single Fins & Safety Pins" by Japanese Motors. Easy choice. i found this song last last summer and it became one of my poolside anthems. Its just so damn FUN!!! download it, definately. and throw it on all your summer mix CDs. (slash playlists, for those people in the 21st century)

Weird award: "Suspicious Minds" by Fine Young Cannibals. Yes, this is that Elvis song. And yes, this is the band who sings "She drives me crazy" (all i can picture when i hear that song is the video with muppets)(at 2:26 in the video its david hasselhoff, conan o'brian, and the afleck guy. i love life). And no, i dont understand why them covering this song was okay. And yes, im confused that i kind of liked it.

Chia pet award: "Desire" by Raina Rose. It grows on me more each time i hear it. of course i have a thng for acoustic country folk bluegrass grassroots kind of music, so maybe that explains it.

"Say It Right" by Nelly Furtado was one of THE SONGS of my fall semester. wow, it was weird to hear it again you know? things have changed so much since then, all in amazing ways. TGI 2010.

Ironic song title: "The Longest Road (Deadmau5 Remix)" by Morgan Page. The song is 7 and a half minutes. so its the longest song ever. it reminds me of miley cyrus meets liz phair meets a rave. So of course i love it. (did i use irony right? i always forget what is truly ironic, mostly cuz the alanis morrisette song effed me up. ITS LIKE RAY-EEE-AAAYYYN,,,)

well, im off to dream about new cars and new perspectives!!! things are really, really, REALLY better. Thank God (literally).

"Most Influential Friend Award" Update:
Songs from Schen-lah so far: 32
Songs from Mallo so far: 5

Day 21

*Leavin' Trunk - The Black Keys
He Was A Friend Of Mine - Willie Nelson
Rejoice - Audio Adrenaline
You Are the Music In Me (Sharpay Version) - Sharpay
Beautiful - Snoop Dogg
To Go Home - M. Ward
Just Like Me - Jamie Foxx feat T.I.
Any Way You Want It - Journey
Cool Enough - Nicole Atkins
*Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You - SR-71
California - Hawk Nelson
Speak Of The Devil - A Day To Remember
*High - Stabbing Westward
I Can't Stand It - The Velvet Underground
Silvio - Bob Dylan
*Lesser Things - Jars Of Clay

What's It Gonna Be - Busta Rhymes
Bite Hard - Franz Ferdinand
Maybe - Enrique Iglesias
Makin' Whoopee - Ella Fitzgerald
Listen - Collective Soul
The Eventual Intimate Of So Much Nostalgia - The Prayers And Tears Of Arthur Digby Sellers

Ridiculously nonseasonal song of the day: "Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You" by SR-71. A Christmas song on January 20th? absolute absurdity! i love it :) This track was one i became obsessed with this winter. i probably blasted it every time i got in my car. it sounds soooooo good turned all the way up.

Awesome rap song of the day:" Just Like Me" by Jamie Foxx feat T.I.. Not only is it hilarious but it is basically my life story. im always pimpin, but my shorty aint no slacker, she's got a couple more on the side. its hard livin but its the only way i know how to do. (sorry, that was my inner gangster rapper EP Solid comin out.)

Randomness award: "He Was A Friend Of Mine" by Willie Nelson. This song is from the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack. Can we process this please? Willie. Nelson. okay thanks. and yes, i have the entire soundtrack. Best love story film EVER.

Back in 10th grade dreaming of summer and sun award: "California" by Hawk Nelson. This song is the epitomal cliche of high school soft punk. Hawk Nelson, how i miss you:

I'm not falling for anymore of these tricks,
I'm so tired of everything here,
The sun is calling me to the west,
Everyone's having fun out there,
My bags are packed as I'm looking out the window,
Everything is so outdated here,
I wanna move west where the sun is shining,
I want my friends to all be there,

I mean really. its generic but oh so catchy!

Never listening to again song of the day: "Speak Of The Devil" by A Day To Remember. i HATE when they yell at me! like, why you gotta scream? seriously? i was just telling someone yesterday how i love all types of music except reggae (sorry) and hard metal that screams at me.

Not so hidden gem: "High" by Stabbing Westward. I have loved this song for a while, mostly because of who gave it to me. But i didnt have the song labeled as anything but "Track 2" on this one mix cd, so this was a great surprise. One of the reasons im doing this list is to update my library, adjusting typos and untitled tracks and the like. You know, i think this song gets the gold star:

I can't hide it
I can't find it
When every nerve is
Crying out for release
I can't capture
The rapture
That passion that is
Burning inside me
I've lost so much
Chasing the perfect high
I've lost so much

I've never been as
high as I was with you
Never been so high
I've never been as
high as I was with you
I finally realized
that's a perfect high
That's a perfect high

i miss you. so you know.

Funniest back-to-back combo: "Whiskey Tears" by Dierks Bentley and "What's It Gonna Be" by Busta Rhymes. Sometimes this playlist makes me feel schizophrenic. (im not sure that that is even the right disease, but its what society uses and sounds okay to me)

"The Eventual Intimate Of So Much Nostalgia" by The Prayers And Tears Of Arthur Digby Sellers is one of those songs whose title i like more than the actual SONG. I mean really though, its a fantastic title isnt it? so true. Song is actually growing on me though.

Thats it for today! man, i keep getting through the list faster and faster. the commute over to state is great for analyzing each track and appreciating it.

More to come tomorrow.

Now that I'm Gone - Charles Bradley & The Bullets
Hard Feelings - The Constantines
Tocatta & Fugue (D Minor) - Bach
Kaliedoscope - Death Cab for Cutie
King Planet - Fold Zandura
Pinball Wizard - Rod Stewart

Make me feel pimp star: "Dirt Off Your Shoulders(remix)" by Lil Wayne.

As im struggling to get up and brush my teeth, "Waiting..." by City and Colour starts playing. The first line of the song?

A coma might feel better than this.

HAHAHA great. good. lovely start to the day.

Make me cry every time award: "Coffee Shop" by Landon Pigg. It reminds me of this youtube video i saw of sweet love messages and pictures set to this song. And it reminds me of the person i sent that video to..... sigh....

Sampling Star of the day: "Jugni (Malkit Singh - The Mix of All Mixes)" by Malkit Singh. This song samples beats from "Billie Jean" and "It takes two," plus a bunch more i cant quite recognize. Kind of a fun song, if youre in the mood for Bhangra.

As im packing up knives to take for my chicken testing project today, this line from "Love to love you less" by Nikka Costa plays:

But much to my horror,
You aint the sharpest knife in the drawer.

WTF today? too many perfectly timed lyrics, its freaking me out.

Morning commute award: "Liver and Tan" by Braids. Another one ive never really listened to but now i love. It came on as i was driving over the mountain and seemed profound. i listened to it on the night drive home and it had a totally different yet equally powerful effect. It would be a graat "playing in the background at the end of the movie while the protagonist recites a life lessons learned monologue" kind of song.

SOOOOO i was at the bus stop on campus by east halls trying to catch a ride to west campus right? Two buses had already been filled and there were STILL some of us who didnt fit and had to wait for the next one. It was already 9 as a blue loop slows at our stop. we crammed SO MANY PEOPLE on there it had to have been illegal. So im squished and standing surrounded by pissy college kids and you know what song starts blasting from my ipod? "Tocatta & Fugue (D Minor)" by Bach. Why do i even have this song?!?! hahah it was so loud, i couldnt reach my ipod so i just said fuck it and enjoyed the trippy dramatic orchestration as the bus swayed back and forth at stop signs. What a trip.

Amazing lyrics award: "America's On Sale" by Alix Olson. Its some witty shit. here are the lyrics, its too much to type.

Gold Star: "Island" by The Starting Line. I LOVE THIS SONG. it reminds me of bright summer days, beaches, and hope. download this one for sure.

Hidden Gem: "Bedshaped" by Keane. The last few of their songs that made the playlist were not making much of an impression on me. THIS ONE is fantastic though, especially the piano on the chorus. the music video cracks me up though - total tim burton wannabes.

Hmmmm maybe i like this band award: "I'm Just A Man" by INXS. Ive noticed myself liking a lot of their stuff lately. hmmm. INXS. who knew? I still think the band name is stupid though. im just sayin.

"King Planet" by Fold Zandura always reminds me of this movie "Extreme Days" that my sister always watched. it was a fun movie, from what i can remember. "im sorry jessie, i tried everying." i still quote that part pretty much once a week.

Every time i write my blog i start to worry that im making huge grammatical and spelling errors. Which has led me to this realization. People who understand and practice good grammar intimidate the shit out of me. i will never be one of you, im sorry. i fear and respect you though. just know you kind of scare me. thanks.

Good times song of the day!: "Tripping Billies" Dave Matthews Band.

Eat, drink and be merry
For tomorrow we die
'cause we're tripping Billies

More to come tomorrow.

Day 19

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

I was kind of disappointed in the list today. not a ton of great songs, but it was alright. Plus im more sick than i was yesterday so i FEEL LIKE SHIT. so theres that.

Cornflake Girl - Tori Amos
Just a Ride - Lily Allen
Atlantis - Donovan
Mmm Papi - Britney Spears

*The Blower's Daughter - Damien Rice
Roadhouse Blues - The Doors
Speak To Me - Pink Floyd
My Doorbell - The White Stripes
*Nice Guys Finish Last - Green Day

wardrobe malfunction award: "Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake. This is the song that played during the infamous super bowl show. Am i the only one who still remembers that when i hear this song? That show is one of those things that you will get to tell your grand kids you saw hahah. awesome.

stab my eardrums out song of the day: "Last Kiss" by Pearl Jam. How GROSS is this song? i have always hated it, with all its sad cheesiness. Ew. Depressing. NEXT.

Hidden Gem: "Myspace Girl" by The Afters. This song cracks me up, especially the chorus:

I saw your picture on Myspace
Maybe someday we can turn it into ourspace baby
I don't care how long it takes
I'm saving space in my top 8 for you

take a listen.

"Atlantis" by Donovan has this absurd spoken intro about the lost city and mythology and blah. Confusing and kind of disturbing, not a great track.

Gold Star: "The Blower's Daughter" by Damien Rice. By the time he is singing "I cant take my eyes off you" i am breathless. Download this one if you dont already have it. It makes for great alone time crying fests.

Day 18

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Soooo im sick. Which sucks, but its my fist cold since Feb 2009 so i guess its time. Plus i have a badass momma who made me cookies and soup and brought me medicine and like twelve different things to drink. She is my silver lining :)

Heres today's playlist:

It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It) - The Rolling Stones
Teenage Love Rock - The Rocket Summer

Song for the Dead - Sea Wolf
Beautiful Life - Ace Of Base
*Tonight, Tonight - Stone Temple Pilots
On The Run - Pink Floyd
Road To Dead - Paula Cole
England - Amit Rai
I Want To Know What Love Is - Foreigner
Aja Mahi - MC Metz, MC Trix
12-Bar Original - The Beatles

Trip Me Out Award: "On The Run" by Pink Floyd. Haha it reminds me of the twenty times i watched The Wizard of Oz while overdubbing with The Dark Side of The Moon. Hahah oh 2007, how i loved you.

Do you ever feel like the only place you will truly get over loving somebody is in death? Part of me knows it is true. I listened to "Distant Shore" by Dierks Bentley a few times in a row wondering this. NEXT. (i get in these ruts, time to pull out of it and play the next track.)

Dubs Award: "Be A Book" by Matt Nolan. Dont bother trying to look it up, its an exclusive track from Dub's sister's ex boyfriend. Score one for Dubs.

Fun to jam to song of the day: "Hard To Handle" by The Black Crowes. I kind of want to learn every word so i can blast it when i have lady friends in the car. I feel like it would be impressive and sexy if i could belt it out while flying down the interstate. Right? Right. Mentally noted.

Gold Star: Tonight, Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins. This song was an instant classic the minute it came out.

We'll crucify the insincere tonight
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
The impossible is possible tonight
Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight
t

Does it get any better than that? its so high school/early college. those memories of friendships and drama and overwhelmingly emotional circumstances. The firsts of everything - first kiss, first love, first time drinking, first heartbreak, etc. The pain of loss and excitement of the possibility of the infinite. The discovery of secrets hidden in the night. Tonight. God i love this song.

Day 17

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Um sooooo Best Day EVER Much??? I had a fantastic Sunday - allow me to gush for a moment. I washed Sgt. Pepper (my car) before driving to church, had a great morning commute with wonderful music, and felt really connected and moved at church. Then i surprised Emma and Karen at Q house and we went to the waffle shop for some breakfast! i <3 choc chip pancakes. and i <3 good friends. Here's the playlist:

Running From An Angel - Hootie & The Blowfish
Emaculation - Tegan and Sara
*The Air Near My Fingers - The White Stripes
Everybody Hurts R.E.M.
Statesboro Blues - The Allman Brothers Band
Within You - Ray LaMontagne
Silent Legacy - Melissa Etheridge
(Oh No) What You Got - Justin Timberlake feat. Timbaland
*Growing Pains Theme Song - B,J, Thomas and Jennifer Warner
Laugh as the Sun - Rusted Root
We're Young And Beautiful - Carrie Underwood
Six Feet Under - No Doubt
99% - The Mooney Suzuki
*Don't Trust Me - 3OH!3
If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day - The White Stripes
Oh World - The Western States Motel
Find The Cost Of Freedom - Crosby, Stills & Nash
*Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
Adam's Song - Blink-182
Reservoir Park - The Dutchess and the Duke
My Kind Of Lover - Locksley
London Calling - The Clash
Sunset Strip Bitch - Eve 6

Recommended album of the day: Cracked Rear View by Hootie and the Blowfish. It is a MUST have album, it has the hits "Only Wanna Be With You," "Hold My Hand," "Let Her Cry," and today's Hootie jam "Running From An Angel." It is a CD that you can put on at a party on repeat and no one would notice or mind. The 90's at their best!

"The Air Near My Fingers" by The White Stripes is one of my top 10 White Stripes songs ever. maybe. Best lines?

Don't you remember, you told me in December,
that a boy is not a man until he makes a stand?
Well I'm not a genius, but maybe you'll remember this,
I never said I wanted to be a man.

The guitar riff is simple like all of Jack's stuff, but ever so emotive. This kind of song is why they are my favorite band of all time. (download this shit)

Embarrassing but ill try to own it award: "Silent Legacy" by Melissa Etheridge. I found myself singing along and knowing every word on my morning drive, but i dont know how that happened. Like, i cant remember actually LEARNING the lyrics. Maybe they programmed all of her lyrics into me in my sleep. Or maybe its genetic? Nature vs. Nurture. Go figure.

Cry for now reason song of the day: "Everybody Hurts" by REM. It just makes you cry.

"(Oh No) What You Got" by Justin Timberlake feat. Timbaland is FANTASTIC! i love JT, he is a sexy man. and the lyrics are KIND OF my life story:

Baby, I can tell that you want to do more
Than just dance with me
And I don't mind you flirting
But honestly
Do you really wanna spend the whole night
Passing looks at me?
Come over here and get to working

Any pimp will understand what im sezzin. yo.

Hidden Gem: "Reservoir Park" by The Duchess and the Duke. This was a random download from about 2 years ago and im just now listening to it. It reminds me of my Asheville music: that mix of acoustic guitar strumming, pounding bass line, simple lyrics, and tight harmonies. The lead singer reminds me of Mick Jagger in "Mother's Little Helper". Download it for sure.

Gold Star: "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers. Best song of the day.

Press Repeat 100 times to annoy Schenlah award: "Growing Pains Theme Song" by B,J, Thomas and Jennifer Warner. Okay, so story time. Schen found this amazing youtube video of Dane Cook and Chris Daughtry covering "As Long As We've Got Each Other," the growing pains theme song. Then i had it stuck in my head all week. We were driving to the beach (just me and schen and ridley, we had to leave a day later than my parents cuz i had work) and i decided to use her iPhone to "youtube it." I found all the versions i could and kept playing them over and over, singing different harmonies each time. It was SO much fun (for me) and made the trip seem like a vacation in itself. We had some great convos that car ride, and even stopped for burgers at Red Rabbit. I loved that drive :) I MISS YOU SCHENLAH! This one's for you hahaa. (and bonus - A CAPELLA!) Best show EVER.

Take a listen song of the day: "Oh World: by The Western States Hotel. Take a listen.

I hope that in some small way, i have helped someone find a new song that they like. Or rethink a song they dont listen to much anymore. All i want through this blog is to help people out of their music ruts and into the light of exciting new tune-age. So theres that. More to come tomorrow.

You were the only one who came
And you were the only one astounded
Which kept me grounded
As the other girls thrashed my very name

Then I looked over
Just in time to see her smiling back at me
And saying everything's OK
As long as you're inside my blue veins
Your blue veins

Yeah and the feeling that you gave me
No matter what I do or where I go
It always will remain
And those who would enslave me to get to me must get past you and will have no luck
Cause you'll protect me from all pain

The most beautiful, yeah the most beautiful thing cause anything else can't compare
Must be the blood that's running through your blue veins

Your blue veins

Your blue veins

And I know you won't deceive me
Like the rest and there's nothing you need to explain
You always were the first one to believe me
When I said to you girl
I think it's gonna rain
But I could be wrong

Yeah but all of these things
All these things
They're all truly nice but ain't nothing
Ain't nothing compared to the love that's running through your little blue veins

Your blue veins

Day 15

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

So today i noticed "Green Light" popped up again. I feel like i should address this - i DO have a few repeats in my itunes library. But some of these are actually different tracks, like cool remixes or live versions. And some are identical songs because a friend gave me a song on a mix CD that i already had. I felt like deleting duplicates would take away from the point of the resolution, but pretending SOME songs overlap would be dishonest. So there is that.

Also, i have been dying to look at the end of my list and see what the final song is! i havent yet, im trying to stay strong and wait for the last day. Cuz I love surprises. Like a lot. Im not even finding out what sex my babies are until i pop those fuckers out. Heres today's playlist:

*Take It On The Run - REO Speedwagon
The Loneliness Of A Middle Distance Runner - Belle & Sebastian
*Bruised - Jack's Mannequin
Stitches - Orgy

Tragedy - Jaymay
Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Next Year - Foo Fighters
Song For Dad - Keith Urban

Gold Star award AND best way to start the day song of the day award: "Take It On The Run" by REO Speedwagon. Have you heard this song? how amazing yeah? here, download it, for real. Then tomorrow play it as soon as you wake up. and then send me a thank you note for the awesome suggestion. I will also accept a cash based expression of gratitude.

"The Loneliness Of A Middle Distance Runner" by Belle & Sebastian: Does this song remind anyone of The Velvet Underground? Let me know, i think im going crazy. This title makes me chuckle, since one of my theme songs is "Middle Distance Runner" by Sea wolf.

So won't you run to me tonight?
Tonight let's not talk about next summer
Cause I'll only ever be
a middle distance runner

WEIRD right? hmmm. music.

Freak in the bed award: "Stitches" by Orgy. This song makes me want to have sex. (dear mom and schen - totally kidding) (dear everyone else: insert wink face here)

I dont listen to a lot of Bowie, so i havent heard "Don't Bring Me Down" before. It came on during my morning commute and i was surprised by how good it was.

Damn i like this band lately award: "Promise" by Eve 6. Im confused because i keep not recognizing their song titles, but know all the words by the time they hit the chorus. I feel like i have had an Eve 6 song everyday this week (okay i just checked and ive only had one this week.... FAIL). This song should be my theme song though...

I promise not to try not to fuck with your mind
I promise not to mind if you go your way and I go mine
I promise not to lie if I'm looking you straight in the eye
I promise not to try not to let you down
Don't let me down

I think i need more Eve 6 in my music rotation. mentally noted.

Smile bringer of the day: "Mr. Blue Sky" by Electric Light Orchestra. It brought a smile to my day, contrary to what you might infer from the title of the award....

Reminds me of Punxsy award: "Miracles" by Jefferson Starship. Please note that they have upgraded to a Starship by this point. I <3 random band name evolution. I was big on walking when i lived there and it was a great small town for exploring. I would play my "Classic Rock Education" playlist from Dad while i trekked on side streets, forest trails, or by the river. This song would almost always come on and always got turned up. Sometimes its nice to sit and sip up sweet memories like that.

This one goes out for Coco award: "Present Of Future End" by The Most Serene Republic :)

Sidenote: I was thinking yesterday about how i love the color red (my hand was bleeding and i was kind of staring at it psychopathically in calculus) and it may be my fav color. Now, for the longest time i havent had one because all colors are beautiful in their own way. But that bright intensity of fresh blood? the passion and pain it exudes? thats kind of something i can get down with. Insert "Twilight" reference here.

Hidden Gem: "Next Year" by Foo Fighters. I love them. (right click and chose "save target as" or "download linked file." totally safe. i test all my links so no worries)

Hidden Cubic Zirconia: "An Idea" by Jar-e. I thought this was going to be one of those Baghra songs, but im pleasantly surprised. It is kind of jazzy and not totally my thing, but you should check it out if you are really bored.

Good idea at the time song of the day: Mystikal Fever" by Mystikal. Mystikal needs deleted from my library. Seriously. Mia Nicole Taylor and i love "Shake it Fast" and "Danger," so we bought the entire album on ebay. Naturally. Now i have 20 songs of this rap guy yelling at me with horrible beats in the background. Sigh. The mistakes of our youth.

What a FANTASTIC list today! i listened to most of it twice it was so nice (total accidental rhyme yo). I am off to cook some dinner for Q-House! Im pretty pumped about it, i love all of them and they always invite me to their badass parties, so i feel like its the least i can do to show my love. Plus i LOVE cooking for people. Its kind of my thing. Have a great friday night everyone, party hard and party safe!

More to come tomorrow.

Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream
Come Cryin' To Me - Lonestar
Love Your Memory - Miranda Lambert

there were a lot of classic junior high songs on the list today!

haha "The Call" by backstreet boys.... its too much.It has inspired me to seek out people to form a girl boy band with. not a girl band like the spice girls, but a band of gay girls in the style of a boy band. We will do covers of 'N sync and BSB and Otown and it will be fantastic. Names and members are in the works. Shit is gonna be good. ill keep you posted on updates.

Aging like a fine wine award: "All Sparks" by The Editors. It gets better each time i hear it.

Never heard it before song of the day: "Don't Cross The River" by America. I love some of their other stuff but havent heard this before (that i can remember...). It gets 4 out of 5 stars.

Gold Star: "Jenny Dont Be Hasty." Dear Paolo Nutini; will you marry me? love, The Pilge

Not talking about playing hide and seek award: "Come On Out Tonight" by Melissa Etheridge. This song cracks me up with its cliche coming out gayness. BUT i enjoyed Melissa this time, as apposed to some of the other recent tracks ive had to trudge through. She is kind of funny with it so it works. I think she knows how ridiculous she is.

Thats it. The playlist wasnt that exciting today. More to come tomorrow.

(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher - Jackie Wilson
*Good Riddance - Green Day

*Me and the Moon - Something Corporate
X12 Days of XXXMASX - From First To Last
I Want You Back - Micheal Jackson and the Jackson 5
Masters Of War [Live] - Bob Dylan

OOOHH that song award: "Leech" by Eve 6. I knew the song by hearing it but not by the name. I get it not - "Sucking on my brain youre the teacher im the student. Leech. totally.

funny story. im standing in line for the green link on campus before class and the crowd waiting for the bus is growing rapidly. The wind was whipping freezing air as the bus rounded the corner. I noticed that there were way too many people than seats as we pushed together trying to get closer to the door. This meant lots of people would be left out in the unbearable cold. I commented to a stranger next to me that i felt like a passenger on the Titanic when everyone realized there wernt enough lifeboats. She kind of laughed and looked confused/scared of me. I forget that people really dont know how to take me.

Gold Star: "Good Riddance" by Green Day. This is one i never skip on a playlist, always turn the volume up for, and am blown away by each and every time i hear it.

"Yellow Sun" by The Raconteurs used to be one of my main jams. It has lost a lot of its power when i relisten to it now, but it would still be worth listening to if you havent heard it.

"Long Time Coming" by The Delays is one of my favorite easy day tunes. There are some serious "thats what she said" moments with the lyrics haha. Heres a free download if you dont already have it. Props to mallo for the amazing band :)

Hidden Gems of the day: "Me and the Moon" by Something Corporate and "Wanted It To Be" by Sister Hazel. Can i have co-gems? meh, i do what i want. The Sister Hazel song reminds me of their track "Your Winter," a classic in my library. I love the slightly toned down emo sound of Something Corporate but have never heard "Me and the Moon." It is one i will definitely be adding to my usual music rotation.

Most. Cliche. Love. Song. Ever.: "Youre My #1" by Enrique Iglesias (i got the spelling right first try!!!). Seriously, like, WTF? how did he not notice the generic-ocity of this song??

I've seen the world from the highest mountain
Tasted love from the purest fountain
I've seen lips that spark desire
Felt the butterflies a hundred times

I've even seen miracles
I've felt the pain disappear
But still haven't seen anything
That amazes me quite like you do

its just stupid, it really is.

cool anthology award: "Helter Skelter" by The Beatles. The original White Album track is amazing, but this version is a little different. It is more acoustic, more like the sound of "Come Together" with the pronounced bass line. I still prefer the original song but this was a cool outtake.

Make me think of schenlah song of the day:"Crossing Jordan Themes" by Lisa Coleman/Wendy Melvoin. I miss that show (not as much as my sister).

FLASHBACKS ----OMG---- "Prologue" by PO Cast is the intro to Beauty and The Beast, as recorded by my father on parents night. i forgot i had those audio files on here... oh no, that means they will be making appearances. Eff. This one is the beginning (prologue. right.) where Mr. McKnight is narrating ("but.. but why?) as the curse is cast upon the castle. What a great fairy tale, if you actually stop and think about it. A+ to Beauty and the Beast, D- for making me remember the show and high school.

I never was a fan of "Masters Of War" in relation to other Dylan songs. This time though it came on as i was driving back over the mountain and the sun was setting. I found it to be calming and take on some new meaning as i tried to feel what the music meant. After that drive i have a new appreciation for the song - take a listen and see what i mean.

Wellll thats it for today. i had another good day of class! this crazy feeling of new hope (unabashed star wars reference) and optimism for 2010 is growing stronger everyday. It is exactly what ive been praying for!!! yay for tomorrow, yay for today :)

P.S. - I have listened to 316 different songs from the blog in 13 days. kind of crazy to think about right?

More to come tomorrow.

Day 12

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

So i woke up, rushed to work, got home, did HW, talked to dubs, and now need to keep doing HW and reading for class. and its already midnight. Sorry gang, this is gonna be short and sweet. Heres the playlist:

*If Not For You - George Harrison
Clarabella/Skinny Jim - The White Stripes
Fifteen Minutes Old - Snow Patrol
*You're Never Alone - Bad Company
Dig Your Grave - Modest Mouse
Endless Love - Luther Vandross & Mariah Carey
American Gigilo - Weezer
In The Hot, Hot Rays - The Fleet Foxes
Two Silver Trees - Calexico
Belief - John Mayer
Ninety-Nine And A Half (Won't Do) - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Cacophony - Tilly and the Wall
*Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
*Faith Enough - Jars Of Clay
Cheese Danish Dream - The White Stripes
Green Light (Afroganic) - John Legend
Come With Me - P. Diddy
Where Does the Good Go - Tegan and Sara
I'll Be Good For You - 'N Sync
Impersonality - Goo Goo Dolls
Take What You Want - Sense Field
Will You Love Me Tomorrow - The Shirelles
Jennifer Juniper - Donovan
I'm Always Here (Baywatch Theme Song) - Jimi Jamison
(You're My) Soul And Inspiration - The Righteous Brothers

"If Not For You" by George Harrison confirms that he is my favorite Beatle (little known tidbit there). He didnt write it (Its a Dylan song) but his version is great none the less.

"You're Never Alone" by Bad Company is a little cliche but i still could listen to it anytime of day. I am finding i like a lot more of their music than i realized.

Stab my eardrums until they bleed award: "Endless Love" by Luther Vandross & Mariah Carey. I have been feeling even more angry and hateful towards love lately, so this was NOT what i was in the mood for. totally gross. blah.

Gold star: "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by Elton John. Sometimes i forget how much i love his music.

"Will You Love Me Tomorrow" by The Shirelles made me want to listen to the Amy Winehouse version. This then made me cry. Meh, it happens and sometimes you need to let it out. How can you not cry at words like this?

Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun?

I guess i put a lot of personal pain into the song. The lyrics are like they almost came from my own lips. Now that we are all depressed....

Fabulousness award: "Cheese Danish Dream" by The White Stripes. It is a spoken audio track of Jack White retelling a dream at a concert. I cant even express my love for him, so i will let you experience it for yourself. the dream part starts at 1:20. Enjoy.

"Faith Enough" is one of my top 10 Jars of Clay songs. Ah its great.

Hidden Gem: "Two Silver Trees" by Calexico. I listened to it a few times in Asheville, but i appreciate it more upon the rediscovery.

Sorry for the shortness, ill make up for it soon. More to come tomorrow.

Day 11

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Today's list was a good time! I had some perfectly timed jam outs while back on campus, and some good driving tunes. Here's the line up:

*Mint Car - The Cure
Ten Years Gone - Led Zeppelin
Hard To Explain - The Strokes
*Sort Of Revolution (The Cinematic Orchestra Remix) - Fink
Black And Blue - Snow Patrol
El Scorcho - The Stereo
X-Girlfriend - Bush
Good Lovin' - Bobby McFerrin
T.M.T. - Snow Patrol

The Death of Me - City & Colour
Symbol In My Driveway - Jack Johnson
World Go 'Round - No Doubt
Diabolic Scheme - The Hives
Ritual Dance - Kaki King
Riders On The Storm - The Doors

Best way to start the day award: "Mint Car" by The Cure. I blasted this song as i got ready for class this morning, i think it definitely set me up for a good day! I have been feeling optimistic and light hearted since. Try it sometime.

Old School Classic of the day: "Hard to Explain" by The Strokes. I was and still am OBSESSED with their "Is This It?" album. sure it has the amazing singles "Someday," "Last Night." and "Is This It?", but it is packing so much more in between. If you ever have a free afternoon, give it a listen.

"Sort Of Revolution (The Cinematic Orchestra Remix)" by Fink is a must download. It is beautiful.

I usually dont like Weezer covers, but Stream Audio gets it right with their version of "El Scorcho."

The acoustic version of "Sweet Misery" by Michelle Branch is surprisingly good! It reminds me of a coloring book song - just a thick black outline with room for color and imagination. But sometimes coloring book songs are perfect, it gives the listener some room to play around.

Can we talk about this? award: "Unusual Kiss" by Melissa Etheridge. Who the fuck wants their physical affection described as "unusual?" I mean seriously.... is that a compliment? "

Lover 1: "Wow that was unusual"
Lover 2: "Thanks babe, i get that a lot"

Come on Melissa. The song just... it just... Ill be honest - i listened to it three times. In a row. Turned all the way up. And i hated myself every minute of it.

Hidden Gem: "For Every Drop" by Sonya Kitchell. This is one i will definitely be listening to again.

Oh my God, just confess
You want it, you want it
You're just like the rest
Oh dear child, don't deny
You need it, need it
For your alibi
All the stars around
Become blocked in your mind
Just so you could justify
Oh my God, I don't care
You're talkin', talkin'
And there's nothing there

Cool song of the day: "Symbol in My Driveway" by Jack Johnson. Its a cool song.

"Ritual Dance" by Kaki King is one of those badass guitar songs from August Rush. I thought you should know, i had no clue. Good movie. That cello girl was a babe. If she was a president her name would be Babraham Lincoln. (2 points to anyone who can cite that movie quote)

Most appropriate for the moment award: "Riders on the Storm" by The Doors, It came on as i was driving home over the mountain in a blizzard. Hahah i just laughed and went faster

(dear mom: total joke, i would never speed in bad weather with icy roads and poor visibility)

(dear everyone else: total non-joke)

Thats it for the music today. More to come tomorrow.

Day 10

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Sooooo classes start up for spring semester tomorrow. meaning i have to wake up before noon. and, like, use my brain to read study pay attention take notes do homework and think. which means i need sleeeeeep and this is going to be a short posting. heeeeres the list:

*Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da - The Beatles

What's Your Name - Lynyrd Skynyrd
This Is Me - The Rocket Summer
If You Ever Saw Her - Ricky Martin
A Night in Lenasia - Deepak Ram
*Great Indoors - John Mayer

"Waiting On The World To Change" by John Mayer is this cool live version from his live album "Where The Light Is". I hate the single version, it reminds me of a fucked up Christmas song with all the ting ting bells and shit. This one though is a version i can actually enjoy. yay!

previously unknown by me version of a song award: "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" by The Beatles. Its the anthology version, which i would describe as having a flittering sound. The percussion seems to vary from the original, giving it a lighter sound. It also is faster and moves like a freight train on crack. i feel that it still fits the lyrics of the story so well done Beatles.

Flashdance award: "What a Feeling" by Irene Cara. OMG!!! How much do you love this song? and this movie? a young jennifer beals welding one minute and dancing in a leotard the next? in fabulous 80's style? Its a perfect equation for movie magic. To think that she went from her life of dancing into a career as an art gallery director is really astounding (anyone? Bette Porter reference? the L word? Anyone? i see Dub's hand is up, is anyone else getting this reference? maybe? sigh) A+ to Ms. Cara for her phenomenal piece. If you havent seen the movie, please check out this youtube music video.

Not liking it song of the day: "One Hundred and Fine Degrees" by Leaf Hound. Its not even worth a listen.

Cawr star of the day: I really like "You (remix)" by Lloyd ft Andre 3000. it samples from the 80's song "True" by Spandau Ballet (you would know it if you heard it... its the "aaah-ha-ha-haaaaa-ha" one). Good job on this one Cawr, i dig it.

"The Lightening Strike" by Snow Patrol is 16 minutes long. Totally unnecessary. Good song though, if you have 16 to 17 minutes to spare.

Hidden Gem: "If You Ever Saw Her" by Ricky Martin. I never claimed to have good music tastes. i just like what i like. and i like this.

Oh and if you ever saw her
Well she's every dream girl from Monroe to Madonna
You'll swear she walks on water
She's so fine
Oh and if you ever kissed her
Well I tell you my friend you could never resist her
And if you ever saw her
You'd know why

haha this really is a ridiculous song, isnt it?

Song of the day: "Great Indoors" by John Mayer, because today all i wanted to do was lay in bed. Sadly i had to go to work and try to function, but i made it through alright.

Like i said, its a short post but we got her done. More to come tomorrow.

In The Ayer - Flo-Rida Feat. Will.I.Am and Fergie
(I Can't Play) Basketball - Jimmy Fallon

If you like folk or country at all you shoud totally check out "Wasted Time" by The Everybodyfields. A lot of their stuff is worth a listen or a youtube.

Hidden gem of the day: "The Way It Goes" by Dispatch. I could listen to this song on repeat for an hour. Im a sucker for acoustic guitar and multiple harmonies. Cause im sliping through your legs...

Ide rather be skiing award: "She Does" by Locksley. During my last ski trip (March 08) i was really into Locksley and this album. They were a favorite of mine to jam to while i bombed down the mountain. This song is great.

Come on, honey, you know what you do, yeah
Everybody knows one or two like you, yeah
If you wanna fall in love
Or just mess around
Sure enough, honey
Couldn't bring me down
Nobody does it like she does

Emily award: "Tik Tok" by Ke$ha. hahaah you have to use a money sign $ in her name. how whack is that? this song.... i cant even validate its existence in my iTunes library. Em loves it, so i downloaded it as a surprise this one time, and now i kind of dont hate it. I dont know. and i may have a crush on Ke$ha. ive said to much.

HELL YEAH FUCK YOU SNOW award: "Summer Love/ Set the Mood Prelude" by Justin Timberlake. This song always makes me turn the volume UP. He is so sexy with it. As soon as that hand clap bass beat starts im transported back to summer. Im passenger side next to Jaleh; i can smell the hot asphalt, i can feel the beating July rays, i can taste the freedom. Fuck you winter and fuck you snow, me and JT are having a summer block party at my place :)

WOW. the next song is a cover of a Bloc Party song. WEIRD.

sidenote: i do not know how to spell weird. i before e? total lie.

"Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai is a cool song. And by that i mean i always feel cool when i listen to it (more than usual). I have always wondered about the band name though... like... what the eff? So of course i wikipedia-ed it (sidenote: i love how websites are now verbs. "google it," "facebook me," "i was youtubing the other day") and found it is a mash up of the words jam and iroquoi but he misspelled the indian tribe to iroquai. Worst. Band. Name. Ever.

Thats it for today. I have saturday night off for the first time in a LONG time, so im off to make the most of it!!!

"Most Influential Friend Award" Update:
Ive decided to add another name to the mix since his music keeps popping up.
Songs from Schen-lah so far: 8
Songs from Mallo so far: 1 (mallo, idk whats up, i think your music is just not highly concentrated in the first part of the playlist)
