Day 1
by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under
Soooo i remember when starting this blog on New Year's Day was a good idea. Then New Year's Eve happened. Best New Years EVER. I got 2.5 hours of sleep (this morning), went out for breakfast, and rented 5 movies to watch all day in bed with Em. The movie marathon/nap time was a total success - writing an interesting and insightful first entry to my blog is not going as well.
The idea here is that as my New Year's resolution i will be listening to my entire iTunes library. In one year. I have put all 8,511 songs in a play list in random order and wont be making any changes throughout 2010. Though i will add songs to my iTunes during the year, i wont include those in my resolution play list. It will average to about 23 or 24 songs a day, a manageable 90 minutes worth of music. Ill listen to the songs in the morning, while i shower, during my commute, between classes, and any other down time. Then i will post that day's tracks on here, including some thoughts on favorites, hidden gems, must hear songs, never listen to again as long as i live songs, and all the randomness. So without further ado, DAY 1:
Losing A Whole Year - Third Eye Blind
Sleep Through The Static - Jack Johnson
Home In The Woods - Cory Chisel
Time Bomb - The Format
Working For The Weekend - Loverboy
Vindicated - Dashboard Confessional
Make Up - Snow Patrol
Going Away To College - Blink-182
*Body In A Box - City & Colour
Beat It - Micheal Jackson
Strut - Adam Lambert
Tuesday's Dead - Cat Stevens
I'm Free - The Who
Get Down - Audio Adrenaline
America - The Sharks
*Stay or Leave - Dave Matthews Band
I'm Alive - Audio Adrenaline
The Stranger - Billy Joel
Last Christmas - Wham!
*Ain't Got You - Kevin Michael
Juke Box Hero - Foreigner
My Name Is - Eminem
Groovin' - The Little Rascals
Have You Seen The Stars Tonight - Jefferson Starship
the first lyrics i heard today when i start my play list around 7 PM?
"(losing a whole year)
I remember you and me used to spend
The whole god damned day in bed"
haha ridiculously fitting. i mean, really.
hidden delicious track of the day: "Body in a Box" by City and Colour. I have never really appreciated the song, but today i found it to be hauntingly thought-provoking. I love anything by this guy. The harmonica reminds me of old Dylan. check it out (right click "save target as" or "download linked file". its safe, i promise)
America by The Sharks (from West Side Story) definitely was a show tunes treat, it made me want to watch the whole movie! I wonder what Em's doing...
gold star of the day: "Stay or Leave" by Dave Matthews Band. Definitely the top song from today, it takes me straight back to winter 2007-2008. Its frighteningly powerful. youtube it.
best in-the-moment song: "Ain't Got You" by Kevin Michael. best lyrics below.
I remember how you used to say
There was nothing I could do to turn you away
I know, I know that things have changed forever
When I look into your eyes
All I see now is the tears in your eyes
I’m all alone tonight with just a memory
And baby you’re a million miles away
I can’t take another day
If I ain’t got you, I ain’t got anything
It just don’t feel the same, no
If I ain’t got you, oh
And if I ain’t got you, I ain’t got anything
Can’t even feel the pain
No, if I ain’t got you, you
Do I Have To? song: "Juke Box Hero" by Foreigner. it's horrid.
that's it. more to come tomorrow.
Songs to go: 8,487
Days to go: 364
