Jungle Love - Steve Miller Band

Badass 17 minute long jam award: "Dogs" by Pink Floyd. Their Animals album is sick (and i mean that in the good way.... like the p h version of phat way).

Gold Star: "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak. This made gold star because it makes me cry (what doesnt, seriously? im so affected by the world. oh well. better than being numb.) and i find the his voice haunting. You can hear the agony through his lyrics. The fact that the music video is a black and white soft core porn doesnt hurt either:

WICKED.

Doubtful song of the day: "The Sound of Settling" by Death Cab for Cutie. Really Death Cab? This song is what settling sounds like? Really? See, i pictured something less cool. Cuz the song is cool and i like it, but settling sounds like something that i never would want to do or think was cool. So im conflicted. Oh Death Cab, the things you do to me.

Story of the last few days of my life song of the day: "Crazy" by Seal. Im always down for a little crazy now and then. For real. BTW he married Heidi Klum. Nice right?

Thats it for today. Short and sweet. Ive been trying to do other things that dont involve computers or technology, so blogging has been less than convenient. Dont worry guys, we will still have 283 days to hang out and talk about music. Thanks for being loyal through my lame short posts (all 3 of you who read this. Im in denial. I think im famous. Dominance And Submission (Live) - Blue Öyster Cult
When The Sun Goes Down - Kenny Chesney
The Hippy Hippy Shake - The Beatles
Why You Mad At Me - T.I.
Girl For All Seasons - Maureen Teefy And Lorna Luft

Rediscovered 90's hit of the day: "Inside Out" by Eve 6. I couldnt believe how many words i know of this song without ever having actually paid attention. I love the line "I think sick like gingerale." Here is another favorite:

swallow my doubt
turn it inside out
find nothing but faith in nothing

Amazing lyric right? The song really is full of them.

Hidden Gem: "Please Please Me" by The Beatles. Okay, i never realized how strong the "lets have sex" theme is in this song. I mean, maybe i was just being innocent before but COME ON!

I don't wanna sound complainin',
But you know there's always rain in my heart (in my heart).
I do all the pleasin' with you, it's so hard to reason
With you, whoah yeah, why do you make me blue.

Last night I said these words to my girl,
I know you never even try, girl,
C'mon...
Please please me, whoa yeah, like I please you.

Right? right? "Why do you make me blue" equals blue balls. Am i right or am i just taking this the wrong way cuz im a 13 year old?

Sims song of the day: "Checkered Floor" by Silversun Pickups. There was a black and white checkered tile floor in the original sims game that i used all the time for kitchens. Sims lovers make some noise!!! I couldnt find a screenshot with the exact flooring but i found this one that sent me wayyy back:

reppin' it old school yo

Double Mint Gum award: "Naked As We Came" and "Love and Some Verses" by Iron and Wine. Its two songs by the same artist! Double the pleasure, double the fun! I totally can get down with Iron and Wine anytime. Its great easy listening.

Graduate award: "Mrs. Robinson" by The Lemonheads. Great cover. I almost think i like it more than the original. GASP! In fact, i know i do. This was almost the gold star, just out of sheer love for the song. But sadly, there was another who won me over. Close call though.

Glen Hansard Wannabe song of the day: "This Time" by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I love the entire August Rush soundtrack, including this one. It really reminds me of the Once soundtrack though.

Amen sister song of the day: "Silver Lining" by Rilo Kiley. This song lately has been one of my themes. It emanates a lot of things i was feeling last week:

And the grass it was a ticking
And the sun was on the rise
I never felt so wicked
As when I willed our love to die

And I was your silver lining
As the story goes
I was your silver lining
But now I'm gold

To me the song tells a story of someone who is living to be the "silver lining" of their love's day. And after a while they realize they dont want to be someone elses silver lining, they want to be something for themselves too. So they learn how "to be gold." Im trying my best to learn to be gold.

Gold Star: "Love The One You're With" by Stephen Stills. hahahahaha. This one wins simply for its timing. It came on at the perfect moment this morning. Fan fucking tastic. Ill let it speak for itself.

More to come tomorrow.

*Say You Love Me - Fleetwood Mac
*Samson - Regina Spektor

Guitar hero song of the day: "Dammit" by Blink 182. This song came on and i had to go play it on guitar hero, on drums. Its my fav. Then dad and i played The Beatles one for an hour haha. I love saturday mornings! Dammit is one of the songs that i sing so loudly with such intensity (usually when driving) that i get tears in my eyes. The lyrics are seriously some moving stuff:

The steps that
I retrace
the sad look
on your face
The timing
and structure
did you hear
he fucked her?
A day late
a buck short
I'm writing
the report
On losing
and failing
when I move
I'm flailing now

And it's happened once again
I'll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
Sees through the master plan

But everybody's gone
And I've been here for too long
To face this on my own
Well I guess this is growing up
Well I guess this is growing up

I mean, what post adolescent person cant identify with that a little bit? Damn. I love it.

OOOHHHH award: "Melatonin" by Silversun Pickups. So this is a song that i love but the title has always been a mystery to me. I wikipedia-ed it (for ultimate scientific acuracy) and heres what i came up with: "The melatonin signal forms part of the system that regulates the sleep-wake cycle by chemically causing drowsiness and lowering the body temperature." Soooo theres that. And i guess people can take supplements to help combat jet lag and insomnia. How does this relate to the lyrics?

She ran into the wall
So sweet and unknown
A worn comatose

After six milograms
We're talking again
Who would know
Sweet and so low
Who would know

My brain doesn't produce any
I'm soaring without anything

Im thinking they are trippin on melatonin. Just a guess, lol.

Sweet instrumental tune of the day: "I Dreamed There Was No War" by The Eagles. This is a gorgeous 2 minute track. Listen to it here.

Ridiculously fun country song of the day: "Something More" by Sugarland. Ready for a surprise? i LOVE country music. I do. Its a somewhat closeted love affair, but im working on bringing it into the light. I jammed to this song all day and couldnt get enough.

Some believe in destiny, and some believe in fate
I believe that happiness is something we create
You best believe that I'm not gonna wait
'Cause there's gotta be something more

There's gotta be something more
Gotta be more than this
I need a little less hard time
I need a little more bliss
I'm gonna take my chances
Taking a chance I might
Find what I'm looking for
There's gotta be something more

Hidden Gem: "Get Loose" by T.I. I have been jamming to a lot of rap lately, most of it stuff ive gotten from cawr (props cawr). I just made a mix CD of mostly rap and ive loved driving around p-burg with the windows down blasting it at red lights. Yep. Im officially THAT person now. Whatevs yo. They cant touch this, nobody got swagga like me.

Almost Gold Star: "Say You Love Me" by Fleetwood Mac. I fell in love with this song the first time i heard it, and have been playing it all the time since. It has sappy lyrics but is honest in the sentiment. Plus its right in my vocal range so i have a blast jamming to it in the shower! Bonus points!

Gold Star: "Samson" by Regina Spektor. Um, this song is amazing. And i just got my hair cut off today. Like OFF off. Its ellen short. Its amazing. Im in love. Back to the music - This is one of the songs i can put on repeat and cry to for hours (shut up, you know you do it too). I have always found some gay themes in it, but im probably projecting lol. Read the lyrics and see what im talking about. This song reminds me of the first girl i fell for, and how i had to finally face my attraction to women. You should download it if you dont have it, it is well worth having.

You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came fallin' on our heads
But they're just old light, they're just old light
Your hair was long when we first met

OVER IT song of the day: "I'm Losing You (l Know)" by Rod Stewart. Im really over this daily dose of Rod Stewart. We know how i feel about him. Im over it and it is him.

How did anyone find him sexy? HER on the other hand...

I Love the 80's award: "Tide Is High" by Blondie. This song makes me want a pina colada in a coconut shell! I can feel the 1980's ocean breeze now as i tan without sunscreen. Super safe. Love it.

Like, OH EM GEE! award: "Favorite Girl" by Justin Bieber. He wrote this song for me. All you lil 12 year olds can suck it. Boy is mine.

Gold Star: "Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop" by Landon Pigg. You should download this song, its that pretty. I first heard this one on a Kay Jeweler's commercial (im probably not alone) back in the early winter of 2007. Here it is:

I had just starting falling for this girl in culinary school, and this song fit perfectly with that. I downloaded it, fell in love with the song, and not to much later fell in love with the girl. This one's dedicated to her today :)

2 and 2 together award: "Chicago" by Sufjan Stevens. I freaked out when i finally made the connection between this song and "Hands Open" by Snow Patrol. There is a line in the Snow Patrol song that goes "Put Sufjan Stevens on/ and we'll play youre favorite song/ Chicago bursts to life/ and your sweet smile remembers you." Get it! Chicago! Its a song! haha i was excited. This song as a whole doesnt get me super excited, but its good homework music or early morning driving stuff. That vibe. Its nice though.

Parental Ballad of the day: "Today" by Jefferson Airplane. My dad always talks about how they played this at his wedding. He felt like it was his song to my mom. Which is super super cute. Check out the lyrics:

Today I feel like pleasing you more than before
Today I know what I want to do but I don't know what for
To be living for you is all I want to do
To be loving you it'll all be there when my dreams come true
Today you'll make me say that I somehow have changed
Today you'll look into my eyes, I'm just not the same
To be anymore than all I am would be a lie
I'm so full of love I could burst apart and start to cry
Today everything you want, I swear it all will come true
Today I realize how much I'm in love with you
With you standing here I could tell the world what it means to love
To go on from here I can't use words, they don't say enough
Please, please listen to me
It's taken so long to come true
And it's all for you
all for you

30 years later and they are still together. Unreal right?

High School Slut award: "Help Me, Rhonda" by The Beach Boys. So the gist is that The Beach Boys want Rhonda to help them get over their ex-girlfriend. It sounds to me like this Rhonda character is the loose girl that the boys run to when they get rejected. Nice Rhonda. I hope your proud of yourself. Slut.

P.S. - hey Rhonda, you free later tonight? Call me.

More to come tomorrow.

Pro-partial nudity award: "Pinch Me" by Barenaked Ladies. This one is a favorite of mine for sunny warm days. It helps me remember when i was a kid, running around barefoot in the sprinkler. The lazy kind of days without deadlines or pressures from a million places. The dream that was childhood. The dream that is any good day or goody time. But then, eventually, someone always pinches you.

It's the perfect time of day
To throw all your cares away
Put the sprinkler on the lawn
And run through with my gym shorts on.
Take a drink right from the hose
And change into some drier clothes
Climb the stairs up to my room
Sleep away the afternoon.

Turn up the volume! award: "Nine In The Afternoon" by Panic At The Disco. I listened to this song all the time last summer, right around when i got my new car stereo installed. It sounds amazing in there, and really showed off my new subwoof thing. (subwoof thing... im so technically knowledgeable in the field of stereos....). Im kind of over the song right now but loved it last summer.

Shoot my brains out song of the day: "You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)" by Rod Stewart. Rod, please shut the fuck up. You are such a douche. My hatred for him grows every day, im so serious. Okay... so i saw a pic of him recently and noticed with old age he and barry manilow are starting starting to merge into one person. See below.

Mr. Stewart

Mr. Manilow

Freaky right??? I know. Totally freaky. They must have the same plastic surgeon.

Cool song of the day: "Flat Top" by Goo Goo Dolls. Look it up, its worth a listen.

Gold Star: "All These Things That I've Done" by The Killers. Come on! This song is GREAT! Its got drama, its got multiple melody shifts, its got a pounding bass line, and it has a black chorus group singing at the climax! How could this not be gold star? "I got soul but im not a soldier" = amazing line. Here are my other favorite lyrics:

I wanna stand up, I wanna let go
You know, you know - no you don't, you don't
I wanna shine on in the hearts of men
I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand

Old ringtone song of the day: "The Good Life" by Kanye West. This used to be my ringtone over the summer. PERFECT summer ringtone. The only problem is now everytime when i hear the chorus i think my phone is ringing.

Linus award: "Blanket" by eagleowl. This is a slow song that uses a lot of stringed orchestral instruments. I love anything with a violin, so it pulls at my heartstrings (hahahah pun totally not inteneded but now that i read it its pretty corny). The lyrics are kind of hard to understand in places except the line "Hold on for your life." The music says all you could need to know though. Hear it here (make sure you have tissues.)

Favorite song of today day song of the day: "Back To Black" by Amy Winehouse. I listened to this one a couple of times. It has such a SEXY instrumental arrangement going on. I love the visual on going "back to black" as far as an emotional analogy. Amy is totally believable as a victim of bitter heartbreak. Great job man, i love it. Download it here.

We only said good-bye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to black

More to come tomorrow.

Day 76

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

This one is a few days late, i know and apologize. Idol Recap Blog on facebook kicked my ass. Sigh. I listened to the songs like i was supposed to, but never got around to posting since i wanted to give it more effort than i had time for. Sooooo here it is, late but better than a quickie (thats what she said):

*Summer Love - Justin Timberlake
Love Ridden - Fiona Apple
*Bailamos - Enrique Iglesias
I Liked You Better When You Hated Yourself - The Badlees
In My Place - Coldplay
Redemption Day - Sheryl Crow
Rebel Rebel - David Bowie
Din Raat - B21
Honey Pie - The Beatles
When the World Was Round - Ian Hunter
Crossed Out Name - Ryan Adams
Communication - G. Love & Special Sauce
Ain't It The Life - Foo Fighters
*Playground Love - Air
The Mother - Xavier Rudd
Bang Bang - Dispatch
Head Up - Casual Fiasco
I Will - The Beatles
Sole Survivor - Asia
Quit Playing Games (With My Heart) - Backstreet Boys
Back On Line - INXS
I'm Into Something Good - The Bird & The Bee
Tyrant - The Bravery

Break Up song of the day: "Love Ridden" by Fiona Apple. I love this one even more because it is not the typical "bye im gonna miss you" break up song. She is an amazing songwriter.

Nobody sees when you are lying in your bed
And I wanna crawl in with you
But I cry instead
I want your warm, but it will only make
Me colder when it's over,
So I can't tonight, baby
No, not "baby" anymore - if I need you
I'll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while, we'll only have to wave

Heres a link to the lyrics for the whole song.

Dancing in the hallways award: "Bailamos" by Enrique Iglesias. This was one of the songs i used to play on my iPod during drama practice in high school. Ide sneak off into the halls during my breaks and dance like a maniac. Ide run into the empty bathrooms and swing from the stalls, go back into the hall and leap off of lockers, climb staircases sidestepping and slide down the railings, all while lip syncing Enrique. Nobody ever caught me :)

Fun jam of the day: "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie. Not too heavy, not too much going on lyrically. Just a catchy song with nice strong rock elements and Bowie's ultra distinguishable vocals. Check it out if you havent heard it before. (PS how glam is he? love it)

LOL song of the day: "I Liked You Better When You Hated Yourself" by The Badlees. This one really grew on me the more times i played it. It tells the story of two friends who used to laze around and bitch about life, something very philipsburgian. One of my favorite past-times is cruising with a friend on back roads doing nothing and going nowhere. But then one of the guys "grows up" and the singer liked him better before. Im posting the whole song cuz its funny and relatable. And mentions tofu. Double word score for that one.

We used to drink our Bacardi
Behind the old school
And bitch about dreams
That would never come true
Then you heard a callin'
That I hadn't felt
I liked you better
When you hated yourself

Now you spend lots of time
At that natural food place
Buyin' fresh blocks of tofu
Just like mom used to make
You kicked your bad habits
You're in perfect health
But I liked you better
When you hated yourself

Change, it came a blowin'
Like we never met
Your inner child and you play games
That I just don't get
Somewhere it's written
That this too shall pass
But lately you've just been
A pain in the ass....

Ask me if I care
Well, I guess I still do
Friends don't come easy
Even assholes like you
And that shrink of yours
She can go straight to hell
I liked you better
When you hated yourself

Last time I saw you
You were on Donahue
Discussing your book
And everything you've been through
Now you've got your glamour
Your fame and your wealth
But I still liked you better
When you hated yourself

Unexpected Beauty award: "Ain't It The Life" by Foo Fighters. This one surprised me. I love the Foo Fighters but havent heard this track before. Its pretty damn tender. You can listen to it here.

Embarrassing song of the day: "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)" by Backstreet Boys. I mean, really? I listened to it twice (duh) but really? Please note that 'With My Heart' is in ( ) parenthesis. Totally necessary. Sigh. Oh you boy bands, the things you do to me.

So this video is totally unrelated to music or anything on this blog. but im posting it cuz this kid is amazing. Will Phillips is the 10 year old who rose to recent fame for refusing to say the pledge of allegiance because gay marriage is not federal law. AKA he is my hero. Here is his acceptance speech for a GLAAD media award:

More Gay Movies & Entertainment News

Gold Star: "Playground Love" by Air. There are so many things to praise about this song. It is like syrup, slow and sweet, but without any of the stickiness. I see sandboxes and handholds, longing glances with knowing grins, long slow walks through the park, stolen kisses under the trees, a slow dance by the pond, and a deep adult passion intertwined with it all, brightened by the contrast to the innocent scenes played out through the song. I love the strong bass beat and orchestral elements with the modern pop feel. This song incorporates classical strings, which is almost a guaranteed win in my book. You NEED to download this one. Trust me.

I'm a high school lover, and you're my favorite flavor
Love is all, all my soul
You're my playground love

Hidden Gem: "I'm Into Something Good" by The Bird & The Bee. AHHH!!!! Ever have a song that comes on and fits the scene perfectly? And it just catalyzes everything you were slowly feeling at a low level, making it explode into a cotton candy cloud of emotion?!?!! THAT is what this song did for me. It was perfect. I walked out into the sunshine and blue sky and cool breeze and just knew that right around the corner, or whistlin down the river, is something good that im coming to. That if i take the effort to actually slow down and open my eyes, i will see im already into something good. something amazing. something that is starting to resemble a life.

More to come tomorrow.

Day 75

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

When I looked outside today i noticed that the snow was gone. So i made chocolate chip pancakes and bacon for breakfast, and washed it down with an ice cold coca-cola. Heres todays playlist:

Little Deuce Coupe - The Beach Boys
Whatever We Are - Sugar Ray
The Way You Do Me - 2gether
*Used to Get High - John Butler Trio
Spanish Caravan - The Doors
I Belong To You - Toni Braxton
The Different - Melissa Etheridge
How Still My Love - Stevie Nicks
You're Gonna Need Somebody on Your Bond - The Holmes Brothers
Merry Christmas Baby [Live] - Sheryl Crow & Eric Clapton
*She Doesn't Get It - The Format
I'm Only Sleeping - The Beatles
Ominous Man - The Verve Pipe
Bring Me The Head Of... - Sugar Ray
Nakhre Bin Soni Temi (Woman With An Attitude) - Bally Jagpal
Not Enough Time - INXS
Drive In Drive Out - Dave Matthews Band
Several Ways To Die Trying - Dashboard Confessional
*Wild World - Cat Stevens
Cowgirl In The Sand - Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Let's Stay Together - Al Green
El Sello - Ardnaxela
*Always - Blink-182
I Was Made For Lovin' You - Kiss
Callin' Me - Consequence

This was stuck in my head Saturday song of the day: "Used to Get High" by John Butler Trio. It was totally frustrating, since i was in the airport and didnt have it on either of my two ipods. WTF right? So imma listen to it 20 times today to make up for it. It gets better and better each time. The lyrics are so mind blowingly good:

I used to get high for a living
Believing everything that i saw on my tv
I used to get high for a living
Eating all the bullshit food that they sold me
I used to get high for a living
Thinking that my destiny was out of my control
I used to get high for a living
There's lots of different reasons and i'll tell you so

WannaBes award: "You're Gonna Need Somebody on Your Bond" by The Holmes Brothers. They are total Tom Waits wannabes, but its a good thin in this case. Check these guys out if you like anything with blues or gospel. I couldnt find a link to hear this song online but i found a youtube video of them covering "I want you to want me" by Cheap Trick. Yeah. Its epic. It cracks me up.

Breakfast Song of the day: "Merry Christmas Baby [Live]" by Sheryl Crow & Eric Clapton. Hahaha when i hear this song all i can think of is Bruce Springsteen, Christmas, and my sister and i hating life a little bit. See, each year our parents start playing christmas music nonstop around November 2oth. This would be fine expect for the fact that they only play the same 5 CDs. On shuffle. For a month. Just, on repeat. It gets a little insane sometimes... One of my favorite songs to love to hate is "Merry Christmas Baby" by Bruce Springsteen live. I do an AMAZING Bruce impression, you should ask me about it sometime. As i sat down to my pancakes and bacon this song started and i literally loled for about a minute with residual chuckles lasting a few more minutes. MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY! hahaha

Classic tune of the day: "I'm Only Sleeping" by The Beatles. Its one of my favorite Beatles songs, which is saying a lot, since most of the stuff they touched turned into fucking gold.

Make me smile award: "She Doesn't Get It" by The Format. Not only are the lyrics hilarious, but the music and lead singers voice is so good it could be about power tools and climate change and i would still listen to it.

I've read every word you're said
From a poster of a cat
Four books look across your sofa
I thought your coffee table
was more clever than that

Hahaha i know, i know its funny. Its hard to be down when this song is playing. Download this one for sure.

WOW, um dirty much? award: "Not Enough Time" by INXS. Dudes. This one is kind of unexpectedly raunchy. Like, check out the chorus:

Not enough time for all
That I want for you
Not enough time for every kiss
And every touch and all the nights
I wanna be inside you

Hey INXS, Ludacris called. He wants his niche in pop culture back. I actually really liked this verse though:

In our fight against the end
Making love we are immortal
We are the last two left on earth
And I was lost for words
In your arms
Attempting to make sense of
My aching heart
If I could just be everything
And everyone to you

The music of the song could be better but hey, it was the 80's right? ( i just wikipedia-ed it and it was released in 1992... which is like an honorary year of the 80's. Everyone knows the 90's didnt start til 1993. Duh. Common knowledge.....)

My 10th grade universe is shattered anthem of the day: "Several Ways To Die Trying" by Dashboard Confessional. Sooooo dramatic.

HOLY SHIT its No Doubt in SPANISH! song of the day: "El Sello" by Ardnaxela. DUDES. i seriously have never heard anyone sound more like gwen stefani in my life. Wow, um, its freaking me out. See what i mean?

Almost Gold Star: "Wild World" by Cat Stevens. Effing classic isnt it? That acoustic guitar part is sick everytime i hear it. I wanna learn how to play just so i can jam to this song. "Ooooo baby baby its a wild world...."

Gold Star: "Always" by Blink-182. If i was allowed to get married i might have this as my first slow dance. It is the kind of song that is either cheesy or amazing, depending on how you view it. I obviously on the amazing side of things. It really is one of my favorite love songs. If you dont have this in your library i highly recommend it. (okay if you STILL dont know, right click that link and select "save target as" or "download linked file" to download it. Its safe. youre fine.) I was looking around youtube and found this - it highlights the sappy love song side of it. (which i secretly love. cuz im sappy. its gross. shhhhh... dont tell anyone)

This sounds like a disco song song of the day: "I Was Made For Lovin' You" by Kiss. Im sorry, im sorry, but what the fuck? Kiss? This song seriously sounds like a disco hit from 1975. I mean, the bass beat, the high pitched "doo doo doo"s, the sappy love lyrics? Wow. I thought Kiss was all rock and roll. Im shocked. Its okay with me because i LOVE disco, but still. Its shocking one-the-less.

In case you thought i was joking about breakfast :) shamrock shake for lunch anyone?

curious song title song of the day: "Jesus Online" by Bush

Hidden gem: "Catarina" by Joe Purdy. Hear it here.

Pretty cool song of the day: "Stutter" by Elastica. Um... WOW. i havent heard this before but its kind of pretty cool. Check out the lyrics:

No need to whine, boy,
Like a wind-up toy you stutter at my feet,
And it's never the time, boy,
You've had too much wine to stumble up my street.
Well it isn't a problem,
Nothing we can't keep between the sheets,
Tell me you're mine, love,
And I will not wait for other bedtime treats.

Is there something you lack,
When I'm flat on my back,
Is there something that I can do for you?
It's always something you ate,
Or it's something you hate,
Tell me is it the way that I touch you?
Have you found a new mate,
And is she really great,
Is it just that I'm much too much for you?
Oh, oh oh , ouah oh ah

Don't feed me a line, boy,
I can hear that voice you use upon the phone,
And there's no need to be coy,
That is something you can do upon your own.
Well it isn't problem, nothing we can't solve so just relax.
Am I on the wrong train, love,
And will I have to tie you to the tracks.

Is there something you lack,
When I'm flat on my back,
Is there something that I can do for you?
It's always something you ate,
Or it's something you hate,
Tell me is it the way that I touch you?
Have you found a new mate,
And is she really great,
Is it just that I'm much too much for you?
Oh, oh oh , ouah oh ah
I really want you to
Oh, oh oh , ouah oh ah
I really want you to
Oh, oh oh , ouah oh ah

Cool yeah? thats what i thought. Its seriously sexy.

Heterochromia awareness award: "Behind These Hazel Eyes" by Kelly Clarkson. My left eye is dark dark brown, and my right eye is a very nice green-hazel. So everytime it plays i sing "behind this hazel eye" and crack myself up. I felt like that was a funnier story than it turned out to be.... Ooops.... awkward silence....

Hidden Gem: "Tonight" by Jean on Jean. I found this last night VIA iTunes shuffle and thought "wow, a great song ive never lsitened to before." Then it pops up on today's playlist. How fun is that? I couldnt find the lyrics online (GOOGLE FAIL) so i tried to type what i could understand below. i think i did a pretty good job, but check out the YouTube video and see if you can correct any mistakes.

alarm to pull
i cant be fooled
its alright
it makes me feel like im not running
out of time

no no no no no no

tonight after we said goodbye
i listened to the radio
on my drive
and the way the songs did cry
made me stay and stay
in my parked car
i just sat there and listened
while the rainy pavement glistened
and it didnt seem like a decision
to stay

somedays these days im so in love with colors
and sound
and the haze its seems to grab
and reminds me of
when im so young

tonight everything seemed alive
the road shrunk down to the song in the sky
and the lights of the city shined
and the lit the way
on my walk home

Sleepover song of the day: "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" by The Essential Clash. Dude, just man up and stay the night. There. Done. This song could be over in 20 seconds. "Darling you got an extra toothbrush? Sweet. Lets bone." DONE.

Bust out the glow sticks award: "Under The Blacklight" by Rilo Kiley. I used to own 2 different blacklight tubes and a blacklight bulb. What can i say? I was a cool hippie chick. During that phase i got into Rilo Kiley. This was my favorite of theirs for a long time, and not just for the blacklight references. Check it out.

when you get sober
will you get kinder
cause when you get uptight
it's such a drag

when I get older
i won't remember
until that day comes
i've got something on you

under the blacklight
out in the garden
into the pale moon
i'll be waiting

Ill be waiting.

Dance Senorita award: "Hey Sandy" by Polaris.

*DEH DEH DEH deh da deh deh deh*
Hey smiling strange! Youre looking happily deranged!
A here and shable to shimmyd shimby....
Or happy pa ge go tarzan yet HEY SANDY!

At least thats how it goes in my head. This is the Pete and Pete theme song, if you are uncool and did not already know that. If you do not know what Pete and Pete is i need you to leave. Now. Please dont read this blog again.

some buff guy on google images (at least thats where i found him) actually got the petunia tattoo... oh god hes giving me ideas

Gold Star: "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" by Amy Winehouse. One of my favorite covers. She sounds so in pain. So full of questions. So on the edge of rapid hopeloss. Oh sigh. I love this one. Listen here. Try not to cry (unless you arent a baby like me.... then you should probably be good).

More to come tomorrow.

I finally get it award: "Untouchable Face" by Ani Difranco. I sang along to this one today and you know what? i finally get it. Thanks Ani, having this song helped a little.

Strange timing award: "London Town (Demo)" by Donovan. Ive been listening to this all week, and then BAM. Its on the playlist. Strange.

Good morning song of the day: "Good Day Sunshine" by The Beatles

Hidden Gem : "Modern Day Swinger" by The Pink Spiders. They had me at the first chorus. Effing badass:

Yeah my baby's pretty as a car crash
Sexy as a stinger of a hornet in your arm
Just another modern swinger
Screaming "catch me if you can"
With a cigarette in hand and it's love
It's heavy and it hurts and it's love

Check out the video here.

Deja Vu award: "Closing Time" by Semisonic. Didnt we, like, JUST listen to this song the other day? If only i had a way to find out, like an easily available daily log of each day's playlist kept somewhere safe.... dammit. I guess we will never know.

Invokes my rage song of the day: "Street Fighting Man" by Rod Stewart. I fucking hate Rod Stewart.

Gold Star: "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinead O'Connor. Im shocked that this one beat "Iris," but stranger things have happened. I think its because i have less memories tied to this one - less tragic connections built up in the melody. I was reconsidering this songs Gold star status while on the slopes, but then i came back and watched the video.

GOLD STAR

Um, does anyone else have a strange urge to go watch V for Vendetta? imma get on that. Brb.

Oh and speaking of Natalie Portman, watch this. Your welcome.

I think this might be the actual Gold Star: "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls. Actually im sure its the true gold star. I changed my mind. But dont tell sinead, im afraid she will fucking cut me. She looks like she could do it. Or she will write me a song and record herself in a black turtleneck singing it to me. Either way we should keep this gold star business between us k? thanks. So IRIS. What a song:

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
And you bleed just to know you're alive

I mean right? Gold Star. Totally. (DONT TELL SINEAD)

Sweet duet song of the day: "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" by Stevie Nicks. She and Tom Petty sound great together. Its fun, cuz sometimes he goes up higher than she does. I think these two are both sexy. And talented. They should have babies. Ill write them a letter and let them know i want them to have babies. That should do the trick.

So today I found some badass photos on a guy's blog - here is one of my favorites

Day 69

by thepilge on Nov.22, 2009, under

Hey guys.... know what today is? its DAY 69!!! WOO HOO!!! 69!!!

Okay, now that im done being a 13 year old boy, here's today's playlist (aka DAY 69's playlist!!! 69!!!):

*Across the Universe - Fiona Apple
Mardy Bum - Arctic Monkeys

Google Search Goddess award: "Alegria" by Salvador. I didnt have the title or artist for this one, so i had to google search the lyrics. But um... its in SPANISH. So somehow i managed to find it. im pretty impressed with myself (what else is new).

My drive really really fast song of the day: "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison" by My Chemical Romance.

90's song of the day: "Follow You Down" by Gin Blossoms.

Makes me cry and get all sappy award: "Come Away With Me" by Norah Jones. I was all kinds of wrapped up in her whole "Come Away With Me" album in high school. I just couldnt get enough of it. Then last spring i worked the carving station in the dinning room for Sunday brunch buffets and had to hear this album on 2 to 3 times in one shift. That kind of took care of that. But this song still retains its hold on me. It reaches deep DEEP in and takes hold of my "lay tangled in the bedsheets with the one you love while the early morning sun streams in and paints soft light on their face while you sweetly whisper i love you and kiss their cheek and hold on like you will never let go because that instant is your forever" part of me. Gross, isnt it? Dont tell anyone k? Cool.

Come away with me in the night
Come away with me and i will write you a song

Come away with me on a bus
Come away where they cant tempt us with their lies

I wanna walk with you on a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows knee high
So wont you try, to come?

Come away with me and we'll kiss on a mountain top
Come away with me and i'll never stop loving you

I wanna wake up with the rain falling on a tin roof
While im safe there in your arms
so all i ask is for you to

Come away with me in the night
Come away with me

Cool acoustic song of the day: "Desperately Wanting (acoustic)" by Better Than Ezra. Its cool. And acoustic.

Surprisingly deep song of the day: "I'm Lost Without You" by Blink-182. I forget that every once in a while Blink has a slow, deep song.

I'll leave my room open till sunrise for you
I'll keep my eyes patiently focused on you
Where are you now I can hear footsteps I'm dreaming
And if you will, keep me from waking to believe this

Gold Star: "Across the Universe" by Fiona Apple. This song would be gold star even if it wasnt featured in my favorite movie of all time, Pleasantville. She does a fantastic job with this Beatles cover. Ive often thought about getting a "Jai guru deva om" tattoo, which translates "thanks to the Divine teacher." Plus its a lyric from a badass song. AKA cool. Duh. The refrain of "Nothing's gonna change my world" is so deliciously ironic when paired with the film Pleasantville. I could rant and rave about the movie for hours, but one of the main reasons it is my number 1 is the music. I dont just mean the songs featured in the film, i mean the film score itself. Here is a little taste, the suite from Pleasantville

YOU GUYS - LISTEN TO THIS

So you may or may not be aware of my obsession with Current TV's "Target Women" segments starring Sarah Haskins. They are satires on what the messages the media conveys about being a perfect woman. AKA Hilarious. I had a mini marathon today (since laughter makes me feel better) and ended up with some amazing quotes:

On exercise: "its time to exercise and its important to wear exercise outfits that match. Cuz if the whole purpose of exercise is looking cute than look cute while you do it, okay? duh. its not brain surgery."

On Lifetime's Snapped series: "'one day chatting as screen name iwanttobelaid...' subtle"

On Chick Flicks: "Shes in for a surprise when unlikely suitor, high concept high jinx, unnecessary obstacle, true love, happy ending!"

See why i love her? Here is one of my favorite segments:

"Wanna go light my mom's expensive candle?"

Oh and guess what? today's post is DAY 69!!!! in case you forgot. Thanks. (69!!!!!!!)

More to come tomorrow.

My life today in lyrical form award: "Gray Or Blue" by Jaymay. I got into Jaymay while in Asheville and am so glad i did. This is my favorite of hers. Download it here. It is so good in fact that im posting the entire song's lyrics:

I feel so helpless now, my guitar is not around
And I'm struggling with the xylophone to make these feelings sound
And I'm remembering you singing and bringing you to life
And It's raining out the window and today it looks like night

You haven't written to me in a week I'm wondering why that is
Are you too nervous to be lovers, friendships ruined with just one kiss
I watched you very closely I saw you look away
Your eyes are either gray or blue I'm never close enough to say

But your sweatshirt says it all with the hood over your face
I can't keep staring at your mouth without wondering how it tastes

I'm with another boy; he's asleep, I'm wide awake
And he tried to win my heart, but it's taken time

I know the shape of your hands because I watch them when you talk
And I know the shape of your body 'cause I watch it when you walk
And I want to know it all but I'm giving you the lead
So go on, go on and take it, don't fake it, sh
ake it

Charmin, crazy eyes have you
are they gray or blue,
I won't make the move
you must make the move
if you make the move
I will then approve
if you do not move
we will surely lose

Don't second guess your feelings you were right from the start
And I notice she's your lover, but she's nowhere near your heart

This city is for strangers, like the sky is for the stars
But I think it's very dangerous if we do not take whats ours

And I'm winning you with words because I have no other way
I'd love to look into your face without your eyes turning away
Last night I watched you sing because a person has to try
And I walked home in the rain because a person cannot lie

This one says it all for me today.

Uplifting song of the day: "Five Candles (You Were There)" by Jars Of Clay. Jars is my sister's favorite band, so ive listened to them more than i realize, simply by accident. This is one of my favorites. I was confused and surprised by the trippiness of the music video, but then i realized the song was released in 1997. Music videos in the 90's had no relevancy to the plot of the song or anything close to sane. Got it. makes sense now. moving on.

Hidden Gem: "Slipping Away" by Sum 41. Its a slower song featuring acoustic and electric guitars that has generic "im in pain slash struggling with something in my life" lyrics. Easy to relate to, since its so vague. Which can be fun.

Most heavily referenced song during our day award: "Suffragette City" by David Bowie. My dad and i were trying to figure out just what a Suffragette City was. Then we would just randomly drop the name at nonsensical times. For instance, "We are on our way to Park City... is that near Suffragette City?" or "Wow that driver is an asshole... must be from Suffragette City" or just "Suffragette City" at any quiet point in the drive. Loved it.

Gold Star: "The Chemicals Between Us" by Bush. The first two shredded chords punctuate the songs intro like rusty screwdriver. I love it. The song has a lot going on in the background if you really listen, especially during the chorus. Bush lyrics are usually ones i relate to, especially these:

I want you to remember
A love so full it could send us all ways
I want you to surrender
All my feelings rose today
And I want you to remain
The power of children can amaze
I'll try not to complain
I know that's a pisser baby

The chemicals between us
The walls that lie between us
Lying in this bed
The chemicals displaced
There is no lonelier state
Than lying in this bed

They are wrought with pain and substance-induced confusion, wrapped up in a longing not completely understood. Genius.

This song is about graduation song of the day: "Closing Time" by Semisonic. No, really, it is. I figured it out when i was like 14.

Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from.
Closing time - this room won't be open 'til your brothers or you sisters come.
So gather up your jackets, and move it to the exits - I hope you have found a friend.
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

See? totally.

More to come tomorrow.
